There are often more tremendous hits on wide receivers, but those are fewer and farther between. Running backs take more consistent punishment, which is why their careers are generally shorter. It's a matter of picking your pain, I suppose.

Theres 53 men on 1 team. 11 can be on the field at a time but you'll have packages and combinations of players you can freely substitute in and out. Offense and Defense will have ~ 15 starters at various positions and then benchers and specific roles like kickers or 5th recievers or 5th defensive backs [for very specific formations].

I see, and how often are the very specific formations end up getting used in a game? Just wondering how much time they end up having on the pitch

@@DutzyMate Depends on the team. The 5 reciever spread is usually pretty rare - but a team might use it 5, 10 times if their opponent can't cover everyone. Also, those players are backups in case someone gets hurt or fatigued so a player will climb up the depth chart as they improve as a player. There will be ~ 5 kicks a game not including kickoffs after your team scores.
