Studies have shown that simply having a later high school start time raises grades. Teens naturally have later sleep times, and getting up early for school results in sleep deprivation and worse academic performance. Parents need to focus on what is best for their kids, not on what is most convenient for themselves.

This is an absurd schedule. What will happen to after-school sports and teen jobs? I was on split schedule in high school, and it was not advantageous for extra sleep. We were actually losing sleep because of late night homework assignments. The other problem is a lot of parents have to drive students to school, because of the lack of buses. Are they supposed to change their work schedules, too? The schedules are fine the way they are. Make your teens go to bed earlier, then they won't be sleepy in class.

Ridiculous to think that HS schedule could have kids getting out at 5:15. Can you image the havoc caused by school buses taking kids home in rush hour traffic? And the aggravated shortage of school bus drivers because they don’t want to give up their family time in the evenings to work a strange schedule?

Are you serious?! I remember having to wake up at 6:00 for high school and now they choose to change the time

If we had to do it, so should they!

I find the current school schedule to be quite confusing. When I was in high school, classes began at 6 a.m., while elementary school started at 8 a.m. Now, however, my elementary-aged children have to wake up at 5:40 a.m. to catch a 6:30 a.m. bus. This seems backwards. It would make more sense to switch the schedules, with high school students starting early. This way, high schoolers could still get home when elementary students are finishing their day, which would be particularly helpful for working parents. It’s frustrating that elementary students are waking up so early while high school students get to sleep in. These are just my thoughts on the matter.

What's wrong with the schedules already in place? What Florida needs to do is strengthen their education curriculum, enhance security ,fix transportation issues without the need of contractors, pay their teachers more money ,and give them better benefits. Let the parents deal with their children's sleep issues.

Earliest times always better. I’d rather get out of school before the later evening time lol

9 to 4 sounds good for schools. Make less classes a lot of those are BS anyways. You shouldn’t have to go to school that early. I’ve been saying that for a long time your brain can’t even function till 9 o’clock. We all know this they can set a schedule but the way the human body works is it takes a couple hours after sunrise for you to be fully functioning and ready to absorb work and education. And if you’re worried about traffic, maybe y’all should make your schools more walkable and viable instead of everybody having to be shuttled in a car on a bus build more local schools y’all just doing it all wrong figure it out.

Go to bed earlier?

Studies have shown that adolescents naturally have a later sleep schedule. They can't help it. Going to bed earlier does NOT mean getting more sleep.
