Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 16/09/2023

I hope you enjoy my video from the Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow.
The weather was glorious, the airshow was glorious and the sound of Merlin engines was also glorious!
We were treated to some of the finest flying and finest warbirds you could wish to see!
We need to remember ‘the few’. It’s not a glorification of war, it’s remembering the brave members of the armed forces who fought for freedom.

Yeah I was loving it when they were playing the Battle of Britain film music when the Spitfires and the 109’s were doing their ‘dog fight’

No problem at all. Ah you were lucky enough to see BBMF Spitfire P7350 then! I think the Battle of Britain airshow on Sunday was one of its first displays since it had an engine issue when returning to RAF Coningsby in the summer. That particular Spitfire saw action during the Battle of Britain as well, so very fitting to be a part of the airshow!

We always used to go on the Friday's before the airshows, being members of the IWM. We watched the practice displays, fewer people and no extra cost. We haven't been for some time now, we used to enjoy our visits.

“Bloody marvellous” It’s the first time in many years I didn’t make this BoB show 😕 The sights and especially the sounds are so amazing, spine tingling…especially the Lancaster with her 4 synced Merlins 🥰 Ultimately though, I am a Spitfire nut so they are the stars of the show for me 😎👍🏼

I mentioned to friends that the 15th September was Battle of Britain Day. They hadn't remembered. Very sad as it's part of History. 😢I remember it being in the Daily Paper.

I was overseas working with our American cousins, they knew all about BoB Day.; and were surprised some of the UK guys didn't...we mustn't forget what made this country Great....

The main thing is, you were not alone in remembering Battle of Britain day. The crowds at Duxford for the airshow was great to see, and proof that the brave servicemen and women have not been forgotten. There was also a lot of different nationalities at the airshow!

Totally agree, Battle of Britain Day (15th September) is one of the most important dates to remember regarding this country's aviation/military history. Unfortunately as the years roll by the people who were directly involved will become less and eventually all fade into history too, leaving the word to be passed on by less and less people interested in keeping their memory and the history they so bravely created alive. I will continue for as long as l can through my own KZbin videos in flying the flag in their honour .

It’s also important that we keep these fantastic warbirds in airworthy condition as a flying memorial to the brave pilots - and I mean all of them, not just the British pilots. The roar of a merlin engine, the sight of a spitfire, hurricane and a 109 are thought provoking to say the least.

@@timeslip9 My GT Grandson is a Cpl in the Air Cadets. He lives and breathes flying and has his Glider Wings, also has flown several times as co pilot in a light aircraft. The Red Arrows has been his inspiration since he was a little boy. I may not be here to see him achieve all his dreams but I trust he will be one of the brave Pilots of the future in this uncertain world.

The thing what really is astonishing is that most of the pilots on both sides during WW2 were 19-25 years old ,also just like to add years ago i was lucky enough to have a flight in Sally B ,we were "bounced" by a pair of Spits ,standing at the waist gunners station it was frightening how fast the fighters were a speck then by you ,how they shot them down is astonishing.

Yes me too, but I’d rather they still have airshows than not because of H&S concerns. We unfortunately live in a ‘where there’s blame, there’s a claim’ culture, so I can understand why they put so many restrictions in place. Minority ruining it for the majority though ultimately.

pretty annoying how you see 3 Hurricanes taxiing out , and the very next scene is 3 Mustangs flying together.Is this intentionally meant to be confusing for people who dont know their aircraft ?

It’s a compilation of videos that were shot at last years Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow. I imagine the Mustangs had already taken to the air, not been captured on video, and the Hurricanes were taxying out to take off and hold in preparation for their display. How it can have been done intentionally in the compilation to confuse people, is a bit farcical. It was done however for people to enjoy the sights and sounds on the day.

The car park isn't big enough to hold the cars of a sell out show.....I visited late October one year and was surprised how few parking spaces there are.There is a park and ride service from a nearby location though, didn't you fancy using that?

Over 33,500 people attended, However if you had read the FAQs, you could have parked at the Train station or Park and Ride, and got free Bus/Shuttle to and from the event which had ample parking.
