That code is for the primary circuit of the coil, which is the PCM control side. By swapping the coil with another cylinder you eliminated the coil as a fault. For that code to set there has the be an issue with the engine harness, or the PCM. I know the description says primary / secondary on the access port, however no PCM anywhere can tell the condition of a secondary concern in a coil as they're not electrically connected.. I would look for wiring that might have gotten pinched or rubbed through. Make sure your pins in all the connectors look good.
@johnviersma20362 жыл бұрын
Second this, you eliminated the chance of a hardware problem so it is most definitely an electrical issue. Check for loose pins/connections for an open and pinched wiring where it could be shorting to ground. Try wiggling the wiring with the car running to see if the misfire stops.

This same thing happened to my buddies rebuilt motor. Turned out to be a wire got slit on reinstalling on the harness. Constantly losing connection strength
@iitheguardianii53772 жыл бұрын
Exact same issue after building my brothers motor! The connector was replaced a few years ago due to rodent damage and the wire inside of the wire connector was severed causing the same code to show up from time to time. Really messed with me for a few weeks since it was so random when it would kill a cylinder. (I also had the same reaction every time it had this issue and by the time I got back to the house it would stop).
@XxCrAzY509xX2 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t the car throw a high circuit or low circuit code if it was wiring related ?
@iitheguardianii53772 жыл бұрын
@@XxCrAzY509xX The code is pretty generic as it sets for a circuit malfunction which would include wiring being the potential issue as well. At least that's how I see it.

If the misfire failed to move from the fourth cylinder after swapping coils and plugs, which you have already done then like others have said here, you know that you most likely have an issue with the wiring harness going from the coil pack to the Subie's PCM/ECM. Take a look at where the harness plugs into the coil pack. Is it damaged or loose feeling in relation to the other cylinder’s connections? If so it may need to be replaced. If the misfire is intermittent, go ahead and jiggle the wiring harness and see if it has an impact on the way the engine is running. If it does start or stop misfiring, you know you’ve found your problem. Look anywhere that the harness bends or touches anything sharp. Look to see if it looks burnt anywhere. Check for damage and repair the wiring accordingly. check your grounds. Good luck
@qhivitiva38232 жыл бұрын
Log intake and exhaust avcs and compare left and right. Car probably idles fine when cold before avcs activates and the misfire starts. Open the lh exhaust cam gear cover and check that the spring is still in place.

I had ones an issue, that they put me wrong Plugs into my vr6. When the engine was getting warm i had missfires - try to change the plugs. Besides, thats the only thing you changed.
@jonney80462 жыл бұрын
When you rebuilt those cam gears, there is a chance upon reassembly that the bolt on plate is not within the concentricity tolerance to the bore that the cam shaft slides into. They have to be pretty spot on, which I think is why Subaru considers them ‘unserviceable’. I know outfront uses a alignment tool they machined to align the parts when they rebuild them. Not saying this is definitely causing your issues, but might be a good thing to look into if all other possibilities are explored with no solution!
@blowngemini20312 жыл бұрын
Your spot on there. You can align them using a inlet cam on the inlet avc and exhaust cam on the exhaust avc. You need to set the camshaft in the avc then tighten the 6 bolts. Also make shore you put the6 plastic waves and metal springs in the right way they came out. I rebuilded my avc and havent had a problem have done over 5000km since full rebuild.

When rebuilding the avc i notice you didnt look at which way the waves went in and also you needed to set a cam shaft in the avc when bolting the avc. Be careful as not setting them right you can strip the cam pins on the camshaft and the pulleys.

Hey Devin I’ve never packed a Subaru pump, and can always build pressure with brand new motors. If they don’t build pressure from just turning over, which I’ve had some not, pull off the oil filter. Then turn over until oil comes out. There’s a passage straight above the filter that is closely tied in with the pump. It can get air locked. When mine don’t build pressure, I do that, and it always works Hope this helps.
@Turb0.On.Wheels2 жыл бұрын
A little trick that I use when priming a new engine before first start - remove the oil filter and prime until oil comes out from the filter connection. Put the filter on and prime until full oil pressure.

I'd honestly re-check your grounds. If it's that side only. They may look good but sometimes tuna with no crust may still be crusty. Had bad idle issues with my subaru. Cleaned em up and I was golden. If that doesn't work I'd check the ignition coil cables with a multimeter. Make sure it's spitting out what needs to be.

had a similar issue when I did some spark plugs once on a sti, ended up being a dodgy connector/connection to the coil pack rather than the plugs or coils them selves, as it was running all good before. once the connector was sorted misfire went away as expected.

i feel devin on so many levels. I get the EXACT same way when im working on cars and they never want to cooperate. I start getting pissed and cursing non stop. its for sure something simple. My guess would be a ground signaling issue. if it was intermittent it could be as simple as the pins on the connector not fully seated. Had a similar issue with my fuel controller on my bike. chased the issue that was off and on for months. unplugged it and looked at the pins and one of them were pressed slightly out so it would make intermittent contact.
