Nice fun video. Doublers on the sidewalls would have helped, as would a folding propeller, and ESC brake. Got this oldie, but goodie in a random YT suggestion. See you did some mods, and had some more fun with the main wing. Lot's of experimentation and little embedded lessions in this mini-eagle series. There was even a CNC reference. ;)

Folding propeller is a must on these birds. Stops the front end getting so bashed up. I have both sizes, wingspan. The larger bird being the nicest. I have made ailerons on both of mine, plus I reinforced the front end when i was first building them. I used triangle end shaped, lengths of timber, i got from B&Q. Go flying with fpv on the large one, with the real bussards. Plus a mini mobius, for great footage. The real bussards love to investigate it. I fabricated a small box from some leftover 1/8 plywood to attach the motor to and secured it to the nose with 15 minute epoxy. On my first launch it nosed in from about six ft up with no damage. Once i got the proper cg, it flew splendidly. good luck

I just got mine today and putting it together. It is crappy as far as strength is concerned and it was nice to see your experience with it so I can make the proper strength adjustments. I will probably put on a folding prop and see how that works. Thanks for the demonstration. Overall it looks gentle and fun to fly, and I imagine in the spring you will have tons of birds diving at to keep it away from their nests ! lol Happy Flying

Got one,.reinforce the front, add 5 deg downthrust, no right thrust, cg 35mm from leading edge, make vertical tail feather with rudder from depron triangle, 300x100mm x6 or 9mm thick, paint up to suit. use separate elevator and rudder. I added ailerons with 2 number 5 grm servos, 850mah 3s battery, flies and performs very well, 445gms 8 mins flight time. add weight to nose if required. 28x22mm 1450kv motor.

You got to get yourself some GOOP glue. It is a must for EPP. If you want any part to be tough and rubbery, almost unbreakable, just give a few generous coat of GOOP. I coated the nose of my EPP Eagle and around the joints of the motor mount with a few thick coat of GOOP. It is solid and tough as can be. Your motor mount is weak also because you only glue it to the sides. You need to glue it also to the top and bottom to form a box construction, which gives it much greater strength. Also put a thick coat of GOOP on the leading edges of the wing and tall.

12:17 Most smaller RC models have down thrust to stop the model from climbing when applying power and and right thrust to stop the model from turning due to the prop torque. 18:06 By the prop spinning (free wheeling) it has less restriction to the moving air. If you stop it from spinning it will slow the plane more. 20:12 I would use a folding prop... then you could use the ESC brake to stop the prop from spinning and tearing the motor mount off on landing.

Actually a free wheeling prop will slow plane a lot more than stationary prop.. Took me a while to believe it too, but it is true.

Yes, but it's generally true with props attached to electric motors that cause additional resistance due to the magnets, etc. If the pitch is very great on a completely free windmilling prop it might produce less drag while stationary, but props on electric planes do not spin freely because of the motor they are attached to which causes more drag. link to graph and paper in next post in case youtube deletes it.

You really have to use a prop-saver (with rubber-band or O-ring) on the motor to protect the nose on landing. And hey... you cut its beak off! Oh the humanity :-) Come down and take a look at mine.

Folding prop and a stick a square piece of foam behind the motor mount would probably fix the issues.

This was fun to watch and I looked at this model ages ago and wondered? With some slight mods to the construction and internal layout do you think a small duct fan would fly it? Thanks again from New Plymouth. These are very realistic videos and most informative.

I suppose so, but it seems counter to the whole idea of this plane. EDF are good for fast airflow rather that slow flying, and they are really noisy which to me at least seems kinda out of place on this one.

Flimsy fuselage nightmare. Considering how light it is, can't believe there is only a slight plywood length extension and motor mount change at this point. The beak and belly sucks, should have given the kit 2 times thicker upper and lower fuselage and beak reinforcement. Maybe even given it a solid core fuselage. A mid wing motor and profile fuselage with elevon only may be better, too. I may have to buy a few to experiment. Still can't believe after all the life and mod history where this is stuck at, clearly it needs down thrust already built in and some stronger areas.

I did build one as elevon, found some thin epp and gave it double panels. Painted the bottom with gorilla glue. Used a folding prop from a Hitec/Multiplex Sky Scooter...great flying bird!

If you point the motor more down to compensate for the pitch up and maybe a little to the right. I think it will fly much better.

True. If the plane pitches up with more throttle, chances are you need to pitch the prop downward. "Angle of attack ".

hi i put 3mm ply along both sides from the nose right back to just beond the back of the wing . it was from a frend and just the fome no ply and so i just did whaw i thort was best

If it pitches up, maybe you should consider not flying with a busted motor mount, you have bad thrust angle.

In order to catch it, cut the engine, throw down the remote control and then use both hands. Expensive solution though.

If you reinforce the nose you're going to break your prop. I think the design is just poor. The beginner planes with the motor up and behind the wing seem to be the best. Great vids, tho!
