Thank you so much. Very nice moderation of the street debate. I really love it when you have this lengthy debates. Very important points are brought out. This debate in particular is very informative and thought-provoking. Thanks once again.

I think journalists should act as voice to the voiceless. However, some journalists nowadays only appear in front of TV screens to show up there expensive make ups and beautiful attires

My opinion is they must be open not biased or to align themselves with the ruling party

This was worth hours in a journalism class. My take away: Show the two sides of the coin in reporting. I'll definitely have this in mind for my next story.

It's interesting that DW is doing this programme. A lot of their reporting on Africa leaves a lot to be desired. International media often have an agenda. Africans must build credible local sources.

I think very often it is not even an agenda, but simply ingnorance and sometimes sadly unconscious remnants of the ideas stemming from the racial theories made to legitimize slavery. And then there is the mass media whose first priority is to make money...

honestly, when it comes to journalism and accurate transparency.. when you see African presidents going to Paris and cried (well forced the tears out) about the independent journalists who were murdered at Charlie Hebdo, and then go back to their countries and jail media people who had a contradictory POV to them or presented them in a dim light.. it may recall those days in Europe where the press always had to speak highly of Royalty.. when the people of Africa put a stop to presidents behaving like kings... things will progress. it is unfathomable today to have channels openly criticising africans presidents such as those clearly in opposition of Donald Trump or Emmanuel Macron or Angela Merkel of Justin Trudeau.. the creators would simply..."disappear".

We support what Maria said, I mean with all these Government Policies very soon Journalists in Africa would be on extinction😑😑 We would love to kick start an extension of the 77percent here in the Eastern Nigeria...

Media is the plural of medium. And medium refers to a between. In this perspective, journalists are between Africa and the perception of Africa. How can they shape the image of Africa? By starting to acknowledge that Africa has a deficit of image due to historical facts and nontemporal ones. And use all these to conceive stories. Hegel was a German, the country of the channel DW. And Hegel was the one who says the being, in other words, what is, must be explained. One of the reasons why he said so, is because without explanation people may not know, perceive what is, as it is. Therefore, African journalists, by providing readers keys that allow a perception of Africa as she is, can shape another perception of Africa.

Journalists are supposed to objectively display factual information

Africans must develop and build their economies and stop talking and start building their continent.
