About crawlers. Maybe they just eat something else than meat. Or... I do not really remember, but there maybe an option "to catch a small creature" in one of the workshops or something. Maybe that will work.

I'd LIKE to think they'd figure it out if I leave them be, but I have a lot of stuff going on in the fort and they literally are constantly working. Not a single dwarf was "socializing" before I had a burrow.
@chiblast100x5 жыл бұрын
I've found over my test fortresses the last few weeks, since returning to the game after five years, that it really depends on how many dwarves you have in your fortress, how much other stuff each has to do, etc. Generally, if you can assign enough dwarves to each task group to keep one or two idle they will use the locations as much as they need to be happy. In order to assure that state, I've found that small work orders using conditionals checked daily and task specific workshops (using profiles) are key (they help eliminate micromanagement as well, though notice spam will increase). The real issue for what Kruggsmash has here, outside not enough idle dwarves, is scale. A temple only needs a 7x7 room, a container (to hold small instruments, a bag works just fine), a couple small instruments (that may be tricky in this fortress admittedly), a performer and a single room designating furniture item to function at peak. A larger room will allow more dwarves to just sit there meditating and praying rather than working. Similar issues arise for tavern and library.
@ricodarooster5 жыл бұрын
I'm still a "DF rookie", so take this with a grain of salt, but from what I've seen so far dwarves tend to prefer certain "free" activities over others: for instance the citizens of my current fortress, a surface village in the tropical jungle, simply love fighting and martial training. If left idling be sure they'll go to the barracks for individual drills. And during the set season, where I put all of them on squad training duty (to keep them dry, of course), they all get huge happiness bonus while sparring, teaching and learning. In 10 years I managed to have 50 legendary fighters over a total population of 80, and far more Happy dwarves than stressed ones.
@chiblast100x5 жыл бұрын
@@ricodarooster I haven't really started trying to relearn military stuff yet, having only just gotten my head around hospital design and soap production again, but I'm fairly sure "individual drills" as an unscheduled free time activity requires at least dabbling in some appropriate military skill. I have dwarves that are unhappy about not being "able to practice a martial art" who still don't go use the barracks in their free time.

Placing animal traps didn't work but using the "capture live animal" option in the butcher workshop did. It helped but not too much with the problem though. There must have been thousands of them because they were still everywhere even after capturing and butchering about 300 of them. At which time my fortress fell to a forgotten beast.

I really liked the idea of the 4 chambers at 12:30 and probably thought about it to hard and came up with this. The core of a dwarf is of four points, as if a compass. To the North and South lay the dwarven spirit and body. Too far north and you are a ghost but too far South you are a beast. To the East and West lay the dwarven heart and mind. Too far East you become stone but too far West you become lost. The core of a dwarf is centered among these things, as if between four great halls. At the center of these points is what it is to be a dwarf. The ghost becomes their soul, the beast their body, the stone their hearth, and the lost dwarf finds pursuit. The great scholars say "Dwarves have many needs, and some of them don’t even know what the hell they want half the time". They must pursue knowledge, pursue strength, family and even enlightenment, but know that they are not any one of these things but a dwarf is all of these things and must never forget their core.

I love that you have art to accompany the story. It really flashes out the tiles the stronghold. It's all really well pit together. Color me subscribed

Dicey decision? That's a nice way of saying you're trapped and can't leave the fortress

Thursdays are my favorite days of the week. I wake up and the first thing I do is grab my phone to see if there’s a new notification from Krugg’s video. Then I have my breakfast chilling with the it. It’s REALLY awesome and comfy! Hugs from Brazil Kruggsmash! Thank you for your Masterwork job!

I just heard in Nirrudens stream you promoted about a flash freezing trap that encases enemies and stragglers in ice instantly killing them, that could be a sweeper for clearing the top so caravans can get in

@@kruggsmash Well, at least the end result was neat! I have seen my dwarves perish twice already due to ALL our water freezing in the winter! I'll try to get a resevoir done quickly next time.

Sorry for having vanished for a bit, Krugg. Lost my first long running game suddenly and it crushed me. Kind of broke me out because why would I get attached when I could lose everything. And then my mind was overthrown by the nightmare that had become my life... But then my dad and I did our traditional marathon of all the Lord of the Rings extended cuts and I realized that DF had forever changed those movies for me, so I brushed up a bit here and there on a copy of my old world and will be starting again with a new world and prepare myself accordingly.

God, what are those finger-spider things? Edit: oh, it was explained on the end of the video, but it was really disturbing to see them on all artworks.

Making wells work as water sources is a never ending problem for me.

Never noticed before: the wells disposition makes me remenber the ones at Steelclutches. It's an archtechtural reference, or a preference, Krugg's style? He hardly repeats a design, so It may be on purpose.

The way the bedrooms are arranged, looks like the top of a skull, hmmm.
