One of my favorite moments in Dwarf Fortress was when I tried to drop a bridge on a besieging enemy, but didn’t check to see the size of the enemy I was dropping the bridge on. So the bridge broke, the enemy broke in, and I went from a population of 100+ to a population of three. At which point, just as the last dwarves were being slaughtered, the mayor banned the export of anvils.

The reason I originally subbed to your channel years and years ago was your DF tutorial-series for Classic. Awesome series that got me into the madness that is DF. I can honestly say I wouldn't have taken the plunge without it. Don't know how many hours of gameplay I put into classic, obviously, but now with Steam tracking it I just passed 1000 hours in that version...

Wow FANTASTIC video!!! I am new to dwarf fortress and have only ever toyed with the idea of actually playing the game after watching content online. All the content I watched except for a few creators was extremely overwhelming and difficult to follow along. This video has been inexplicably helpful.. It was so welcoming and easy to digest it prompted me to finally purchase and commit to learning the game. Thank you very very much Das! I have wanted to and have known for a long time I would love this game and everything that it has to offer but I have always been too overwhelmed to actually be able to play you have changed that Thank you.

What happened to all your old Dwarf Fortress videos? I remember you used to play DF with different story like themes, like one was embarking in a frozen area, and my favorite was one where all your dwarves were drunkards and the fortress was named Ale Doom. And you used to do drawings of different events that would happen in your fort. Loved those old videos!

Basically I got hacked some time ago and have to manually go through all my old videos to republish them. I plan on doing it - one day.

Is Dwarf therapist still valid? If so, is it worth using? I really have trouble visualizing channels whereas stairs aren't a problem for me. Is there a technique to help with visualizing channeling?
@DasTactic10 күн бұрын
If you run DFHack you don't really need Dwarf Therapist any more. Channelling through Z layers is really just a matter of flicking through the layers to double check everything. I quite often use the blueprint mode to make sure it is going to work.

I may have missed it but....why start on flat land and dig down rather then dig into the side of a hill or mountain? I never think of starting on flat land for some reason.

In these evil instances we need to be out of the weather asap. If you get caught in the open when evil weather hits it can kill you. Similarly we need to make sure any wandering undead don't get too close to us. So every tile we have to move is luxury we don't typically have in these sort of starts. :)

Not that you are pretentious but I think i can figure out what i find fun without having to be told by you.
@NebojsaCinger11 күн бұрын
It's not so much by him, "FUN" is a running joke by DwarfFortress players for decades now. It's also prominent in the DF wiki. So Das is just running with it, nothing pretentious about it.
@DasTactic10 күн бұрын
Yes, I should have explained that a little more. 'FUN' in Dwarf Fortress is basically embracing spectacular failure. It is a consistent joke in the DF community. :)
