I saw Barbara Bonney frequently while living in San Francisco in the 1990's. She was, together with Kiri, the most gorgeous voice I ever heard from a female throat. As good as youtube is or the best hi-fi recordings, there is nothing that can replace hearing them in the flesh.

Although Freiburg is a small city, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra has a solid sound that is typical of Germany and very nice. J.S. Bach was a Lutheran, Handel was an Anglican, and Mozart was a Catholic. Is it OK for the Pope and the King of England?

How lucky it is for the people in Frankfurt and Germany as a whole to witness live Baroque music which still bears the most edifying expression of Christmas music. Germany could be a heavenly refuge from a noisy, disturbing, and dumbing music the so-called popular culture of the commercial modern world is regurgitating. Let there be more fine classical music all over esp during the Christmas season.

This is a beautiful concert indeed. Perfect Christmas repertoire, great performers. However, I would make a little correction as for the title of the compilation. This is n o t a pure "Baroque concert" because Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was n o t a composer of the baroque era. He came a little bit later than heyday of the Baroque period...but no problem.
