My best friend who was Roma was sold at 10 years old she just disappeared one day from school and no one cared I went out looking for her and found out from some of her siblings the man took her to a different country. I still look for her on social media 14 years later but I don’t even know her last name or if she is alive. She wasn’t the fists girl to disappear a 8yo form a different family was also sold. I know these Roma are different from her family but it still disgusts me that a family would do that to their child. I really hope she is alive and well and maybe we will meet again.

Why does Western media always have to present Bulgaria in the worst way possible?? That’s not at all what the reality looks like for the average Bulgarian(these are Roma gypsies and they’re a minority. So, their traditions have nothing to do with the centuries-old Bulgarian Christian traditions) Why don’t you make a documentary, for once, about all the ancient civilisations that have inhabited these lands or about the natural resorts that are protected by UNESCO, for example - basically something educational that will change the way Bulgaria is being perceived by the rest of the world?? I mean let’s face it, the reason why the Western world think so less of Eastern Europe is exactly because of such documentaries …

I worked with a guy in India who’s marriage was arranged by his and his wife’s family. The way he explained it to me was that it makes you focus on your family more and a marriage isn’t just about two people liking each other. It’s how their family gets along with yours.

I think it’s important for husband and wife to like eachother. They may have different views and want to raise their children differently from one another. Lots of fighting isn’t good for a child, it will make them stressed. Even if the parents don’t fight, if they are cold to one another it can make the child feel bad. I’m not saying arranged marriage is bad but I think it’s still important for them to like eachother.
@rachelcookie3213 жыл бұрын
@@MONIKASINGH-dl8iw the increase in divorce has nothing to do with the decrease in arranged marriages. In the modern world we’ve learnt it’s important to be happy and safe. Divorce rights are higher but you will probably find that more couples are happier now.

When your priority for your daughter is how rich her spouse is, rather than how he'll treat her, you know there's something seriously wrong. The same goes for guys whose priority is 1. virginity, and then physical looks. The first lasts a few seconds, and you wouldn't even know if they were or weren't, so it makes no difference. The second also fades fast, and is hardly going to ensure you're happy, even before it fades.

As a Bulgarian (not Roma) I can say that once in 1990 I was offered to buy such a Roma wife. The "seller" was her brother with whom we were serving together our military service. The price was about 1500 DM, which later became 750 EUR. I usually don't like Roma women, but that one was really, really beautiful. But this was out of question - my family traditions don't permit such thing, so this never went further than a joke and exchanging some nice smiles.

It’s kind of the same thing in western cultures. If a man has money, it opens up an entirely new catalog of women to choose from. And even more so when it comes to reputation or prowess.. for example if a girl is the daughter of a doctor, she definitely won’t be marrying a poor man.. money means a lot. The only difference is the man isn’t paying her parents. The one he’ll be paying is his wife because she will use him for his money.

Tin coating copper utensils is an ancient tradition in India too and the process is called Kalai. References are found in ancient Sanskrit texts as well as those from the Mughal Empire and the East Indian Company. People doing this work are called 'Kalai wala' or 'Kalai kara'. Around a decade ago the art nearly disappeared with nonstick utensils entering our kitchens, but now the tradition is being revived. The Roma people have for long been associated with the Banjara community in India and its fascinating to find their customs so similar to those still seen in Indian villages.

'Traditions' are social rules that would have made sense at the time. If there are Traditions that have outlived their usefullness and is now in fact harmful, making people want to opt out their given environment, then perhaps its time for Traditions to at least evolve, if not done away with completely.
