Grandfather Went to Holland before the war And had a great time there. During the war They sent him back in the Netherlands Bergen Op Zoom He traded a American for 2 cans of Herring And gave it to a family "We have not had fish for 4 years!" He returned later that day with ration packs of other food - He told me : If you ever get to go to Europe go to Holland The people are warm And friendly We are much alike Since the war They rebuilt faster then other countries Which means they are hard working. - Grandfather has since past. But How great is it this video has happy herring crazy people in it ? : ) Hello from Canada

architecgillbertperez, are you sure about this, for saying Herring eating in Holland prevents heart attacks, you are dreaming. Go check from what's killing them, plus those herrings not from thier seas, illegal fishing 🎣 from them in morroccon waters plus the best herrings comes from ghana and the surplus from our fishermen is the ones they are enjoying. Is a fact. Check.Herrings season in ghana is I think August in the central region and the western region of ghana.

@@appiahisaac3106I wondered about their cardiac health because they eat more cheese per head of population than any other country. I was there recently and also did not notice a lot of obesity. I was very surprised at the amount if cheese in the supermarkets. It wasn't refrigerated and I couldn't find pieces of it under about 600 gms, otherwise I would have bought some. My great grandfather and his fellow fishermen ensured that you could not get herring from the North Sea. They caught them all! He said that putting engines in fishing boats was wrong and that they would just catch all the fish. He was right.

This summer on Zandvoort's beach. Was walking for 25 minutes then i saw a food truck close to the shore. Guess ?? Just herrings (harengs en Français) and fish. Many young people around the truck. Herring is not only a tradition in "les Pays-Bas", it is a "patrimoine" and i fell a lot of respect with that.

I attended a tech conference in Amsterdam a while ago and I'd developed such a respect for Dutch foods and traditions. I thought I would LOVE herring. I'd eaten raw fish for decades from many cultures. I've eaten and loved canned and pickled fish from different cultures. I had no aversion to briney or vinegary preserved foods. I thought for SURE that it would just fit into this seasoned palate on mine. But, at an evening event where multiple festive herring stations had been set up, I tried it 5-6 times. I can't say it was bad. It was obviously prepared with great care and tradition. But, every flavor and texture combination seemed alien to me. Something I'd never experienced and never expected. Of course, this has now created a personal challenge for me. I need to at least understand the flavor and texture profiles of this dish. I've vowed to try herring at every opportunity, until I resolve that I love it, or why I would hate it. (You can't just turn your back on something with this sort of tradition.)
