Ohhh it breaks your heart seeing families divided, very sad situation for both sides of Berliners… 😢

I wonder how long it took the soldiers and workers to realize the Wall was built to keep them in. One thing I noticed visiting there in the 80s, it still seemed to be in black and white.

Omitted entirely is the fact that the division of Berlin and Germany was at the behest of the allies; the same happened to Vienna and Austria, except that the division there ended in 1955. Also Germany was joined by Vietnam and Korea as divided after 1945. What do these 3 countries have in common?

@@TheRichardSpearman the division was, the wall was not.

@@miked451 I do not think that the border between the two parts of Vietnam or Korea was one of controlled and free movement of goods and people. These were/are heavily fortified. Nicosia/Lefkosa, capital of Cyprus, has been divided for 50 years... strangely omitted from the media on this anniversary. .

East-german military men of the 1960s very much resemble their farthers, uncles, and elder brothers from cinema documentary made in Paris or Prague twenty years earlier.
