I forgot how formidable a contender Johnny Davis was. Qawi as usual never disappoints

Qawi had the best inside boxing style in boxing history. GREAT jab to the head or body, chin tucked, great head movement, threw all punches in combination.

The Hempstead Hammer!!! One of my boxing claims to fame is being made a fool of and learning about the sweet science by Johnny in the early '90s. The last few years of the TimeOut Club in Hempstead. Very skilled and tough fighter. Hell of a humble and nice man. Slick Willy Wise, who started at the TimeOut Club, has an interesting story. Salute Rich🫡

I remember the Davis brothers, having grown up on Long Island myself...and sometimes it was confusing, because Howard Davis of Freeport (unrelated) was also known as John-John.

I love how Qawi would use the jab even as a shorter fighter 🥊

did Qawi use an oversized gumshield, or did he smile through his fights? You can always see his gumshield during his fights.
@hugopacheco35752 ай бұрын
He smiled. He really enjoyed what he was doing. And it can also be quite unnerving for the opponent.

@RichtheFightHistorian that's not how HE pronounces it. If there's no u after the Q, the Q is pronounced as a hard C or K.

@@blackjaguarlord Everyone pronounced that way, particularly when he first made the name change. This isn't something to be pedantic about.
