The Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been laid to rest in in Moscow. The fiercest critic of President Vladimir Putin died two weeks ago in a remote Arctic prison.
His supporters shouted "Alexei, thank you!" as his coffin was brought into the cemetery near the the Moskva river. Navalny's parents and others paid their last respects. Earlier, thousands gathered outside the church where his funeral was held, in defiance of riot police and official warnings from the Kremlin. Navalny's wife Yulia Navalnaya thanked him on social media for 26 years of happiness.
For more on Navalny's funeral, we’re joined by Ekaterina Schulmann from the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center.
And we talk to DW's Russia Analyst Konstantin Eggert.

I understand your concern and the seriousness of the political platform you described. Such extremist and discriminatory views are indeed alarming and have no place in a democratic society that values equality and human rights. It's important to approach political discussions with a balanced and informed perspective, considering all viewpoints and the broader implications of supporting individuals or ideologies that promote hate and intolerance as this man that you seem to honor. Do you actually know his political platform? lol
@cliffordlowerre1381

@@richardbelusa3833 You present a valid and articulate viewpoint but I'm not sure if I understand your platform. I consider myself a free thinker and try to keep an open mind and welcome and consider opposing viewpoints. I know this man bravely went back to his homeland knowing that the man who poisoned him and others, assassinated his opponents rather than face them publicly, was going to immediately arrest him and imprison him on bogus charges. ( You mentioned extremism which got him a 19 year sentence ). He also knew going back was a death sentence for him along with mistreatment and torture. But I think he also knew he wasn't safe anywhere due to his political viewpoints. Sad. Though his platform was largely suppressed and littered with disinformation, I feel I have a pretty good idea what this man was all about. And I feel he was a good man. That is simply my opinion. If you feel I am mistaken and would like to enlighten me with factual evidence to the contrary, I would gladly welcome and consider it. Lol.

Ботва в комментах, угомонись. Реальную силу и людей не скроешь. Нет никакой 86% поддержки, людей вчера вышло под 1 млн, шли с утра до поздней ночи. Плюс сегодня с утра очередь нескончаемая

The difference between Navalny's family and Prigozhin's family is while the two men were alive, Navalny had a cause while Prigozhin was driven by greed. It stands to reason there was a carrot which Prigozhin's family may have accepted whilst there was nothing the Kremlin could do to appease Navalny's family.

Anyone in Russia who feels Yulia's absence is ... let's say cowardly (clearly the result of her husband's return is evidence enough she isn't), think for a moment how Putin, surrounded by protection, sends people from the far reaches of the republic to die in Ukraine. Yulia is most likely to be in Germany, Berlin is only 1,100 miles west of Moscow, Russia is 5,600 miles wide, Putin has zero interest in anyone's lives outside of Moscow or St Petersburg, think of all those people who Yulia cares more for than Putin.

Navalny died by the hand of Pu (tin) You hardly say that word, that name and you fall violently- Ill Navalny was - Only a man, you see with a family Who wanted to live free from the Putin freeze Only a man, you see with a family Who wanted to live free fought to stop the bleed- Ing In his home country And for that, a lesser man killed the one whose dream To make his country free became reality Navalny died his wife and children cried Where the flowers lie burn the fire inside Of hope that, like Navalny, you’ll be free Sing a song of a man with love For country, family that one day you’ll be free One day you’ll be free… with Navalny
