I don't completely agree with a few things. Having or not a picture of yourself doesn't indicate for me that that' s a bot, many people don' t have pictures of themselves and they are real users. About the quantity of activity on twitter or other platforms I don't agree. On the one hand people don't sleep well sometimes and they get connected at strange hours of the day in different moments and they use the social media in a strange way, on the other hand what is not normal is that you write one post and thirty seconds after posting you have one hundred haters refusing what you are saying even you have many followers, that' s not normal, those are bots for me. So, I agree with you when you say that the bot itself is not bad or good, it' s the use given to the bots what' s good or bad

Yeah i get bots sending me "friendship requests" on facebook once or twice a week. I have some fun banning their "requests".

Bots can used to locate certain people, I mean geolocate them. They will send a picture for example, and there's an encoded program that will geo locate you, it acts like a network ping.
