Do you remember the old hymns you used to sing at Church when you were young? This is a medley of some of those old hymns, taken from Renfro Valley Gatherin’ radio shows during the 1990s-early 2000s. The Renfro Valley Gatherin' always opened with two stanzas of an old hymn, sung by members of the audience who came up on stage. What a wonderful time!
The announcer was Jim Gaskin. The singers were members of the Gatherin' musical family or sometimes people drawn from the audience.
On the program, the musical arrangement of these hymns was deliberately kept simple, to re-create the way the hymns were sung in the old-time days.
Each half-hour Gatherin' program typically started out with one of these old hymns. The rest of the program featured a variety of old country music, folk music, birthday notices, and commentary about life in an earlier America.
These hymns were taken from approximately 150 30-minute shows from 1995-2005 that have been preserved in MP3 format onto 3 DVD disks. For a copy of these disks at no charge, please contact me, dwtpa97 "at" verizon.net (use @ symbol in address.),
I hope you have enjoyed these great old hymns as much as I do.
