DX Ham Radio from a Hotspot and Cell Phone While Traveling / In Your Hotel using DMR

Due to being in a ground floor apartment surrounded by other blocks of apartments,operating on my AllStar node is the only way I get on the air.A hotspot connected to my phone,then using digital voice very much appeals.Thanks for posting this,it’s very much appreciated!

Glad to Simon. A lot of people don't understand the value of digital modes like AllStar, DMR, etc.... They are missing out! I want to eventually get a Shari node for AllStar -- I fell in love with ham radio listening on my Baofeng, to a repeater in Tampa FL, linked to the Winsystem transmitting all over the world -- I was immediately hooked.

Thanks Ape. While in the shack I choose to turn on the HF rig 95% of the time, but I like the options. The shack was torn down for 4 weeks for home renovations with the HF rig in a box, DMR / Hotspot combination gave me the daily fix I needed.

Marika, if you mean 3G cell service providing the band width for the hotspot, I'm not sure. I was on 4G when demonstrating, and did not own the hotspot when I was on 3G service. If you find a hotspot you have interest in, the manufacturer may be able to answer the question.

Check Optional Settings, Alert Tone, and see if it lets you turn it off.... I've never tried it but that may work.

I did all of this and it worked work a while. Unfortunately, I plugged it into my car with a USB plug for the cigarette lighter jack. I’m not sure why, because it was labeled 2.1W, but my hot spot died. 😢 I was also using a mobile radio wired to my car when it happened. I wonder if keying the mic on the mobile spikes the voltage on the usb accessory port. Anyways, I’m down a hotspot and they have gotten stupid expensive. Great video! I’ll be more careful where I plug in next time. 73’s W9KRK

When I tried this it found my mobile hotspot ok. When I select it and click save and connect it connects back to my home network. IM have ttried deleting the home network but it still connects to it.

@tyancat I get annoyed with some of the functionality of the dashboard. It's quirky and does stuff like you mention once in a while.

Reflashed a SD card and now it works as it should. When you bring up the dashboard should you be able to switch to the CONFIGRATION page? When I click on configuration it is asking for a user name. When I put in pi-star for the user name it just keeps coming back asking for user name. Would like to be able to change startup host wen using the cell phone as a mobile hotspot.
