I'm just venturing into sublimation. A couple of questions: 1. Can you hot peel the sublimation paper off right out of the press to avoid sticking? Other projects I've seen the paper is peeled off immediately. 2. Have you tried a regular craft acrylic or chalk paint as the base coat, then apply the clear laminate? Wondering if that paint would hold up to the heat. 3. Was your poly varnish pine colored? What if you used clear? How much of a difference does using matte, satin, or gloss make to the finished image? 4. For wood with imperfections I assume you could cover successfully with a poly-651-laminate trilayer? Maybe a good way to reuse those imperfect laser projects?
@rogersshop Жыл бұрын
1. Depends on the project as a hot peel can cause ghosting, especially on ceramics. 2. Craft acrylic will blister. Have not tried chalk paint, but can see where it would not react that way. 3. Clear poly still has an amber tint. More so with Marine poly and that is where the amber cast comes from. Polycrylic does not have that amber color and works well as a sublimation base on "most" hard materials. 4. Might work if air bubbles are controlled.

Try using rust-Oleum frosted glass spray. A few coats with about 5-10 minutes in between coats then let dry about 30 min. Then you can sublimate right to it if you like a matte look.

Can I sublimate on any 4ounce glass jar? Or do I need a special type of glass jar? I have just found you today and I have already watched 3 of your videos. You are an expert and I love hear to hear from the experts
@rogersshop2 жыл бұрын
The glass either needs to have a pre-installed coating for sublimation or you will need to coat it first. There are several products available for this, but application can be a bit tricky to prevent brush marks. The best way is to use an airbrush. After coating, the items need to be cured in an oven, then cooled. Once cooled, the graphic, printed on sublimation paper with sublimation ink can be applied in a heat press or in an oven with a silicone wrap.

When you re-sanded the one that you had already sprayed with clear urethane, did you have to re-spray? Didn’t re-sanding to 400 erase the urethane?

@@sharonfranklin8522 I did not start into the different craft branches until I retired in 2019. Prior to that, my job and our nursery kept me so busy that there was no time.
