Dyeing Cotton for Tea Towels

This is my first time dyeing with fibre reactive dyes! Well, I think I must have done it in art college, but that is ancient history and I remember nothing of it. This is a very different experience from acid dyes, so come along with me as I figure out what to do.
Yarn is 8/2 cotton from Maurice Brassard. Dyes are the basic MX kit of three colours from ProChem. The weaving draft is "Upholstery from Saterglantan" from page 49 of Davison's "A Handweaver's Pattern Book", revised.

I have dyed cotton fabrics and yarns several times. A suggestion for you is to soak the yarn in a 5 gallon bucket with the hottest temperature for water you can. Drop the yarn in the bucket and let soak for about 24 or longer. What this does is releases a great deal of excess dye into the water, so you don't have to rinse out to get clear water so often. Also helps with the yarn from bleeding afterwards. Procionn dyes like to stay attached to the yarn but are not reactive to the cotton making them bleed to other fabrics. Love the color it is always fun to see the effects.

Do people tend to buy your towels in pairs? That warp experiment was sure a success!

I sell towels individually and have seen no pattern in buying habits. I have sold anywhere from one to 5 towels in one transaction. Pairs don't seem to be a thing.

After initial rinse to remove excess heat to boiling for about 10 minutes leave to cool and you should only need one more rinse

Fiber reactive dyes are available from many sources, including local art stores. Dharma Trading has good prices. The brand will not be important. She used 8/2 cotton.

Fiber reactive dyes take a lot of washing, unlike acid dyes. This reminds me why I prefer protein fibers!
