Where along the Cabot Trail is your shop? I used to live in Cheticamp.
@KariFellWeaves2 ай бұрын
The Store is called ArtsNorth and it's located near Dingwall and Cape North. I sell items on consignment there. My own studio has a retail section and it's attached to my home in Sydney. When dropping off items at ArtsNorth, we always stop for supper in Cheticamp.

I must have missed something. What yarn are you using and what weight?
@KariFellWeaves3 ай бұрын
It's merino/nylon sock yarn, fingering weight, hand dyed by Celtic Raven Fibres.

Are you retrying the treadles between each blanket to get the different patterns on a single warp?

It looks absolutely stunning. Would be interesting to see just sari silk and changing the number of pick up on the rows to create the pattern. I’m about to try small rectangles and sew them together on a backing fabric to make a bedroom rug, or maybe a runner for the end of my bed. You can also buy spun ribbons that makes a wonderful yarn. I’m waiting on ribbons and yarn to combine them. ❤

What brand of loom is this?
@b2manufacturing5 ай бұрын
I like it, I love weaving alpaca, it took me a few tries to get my warp calculations just right but once I did, I can’t stop, I started putting cashmere in the mix and now I’m learning how different fibers felt differently and there’s a lot to learn even though I’ve already learned a lot.

Hi from England. I really enjoyed your video after stumbling upon it. I make bands when time allows but my favourites are these historically correct patterns. I was therefore delighted to share your enthusiasm for the same. I have the Applesies book and have made 3 of the patterns but i really struggle to get my cards in the correct orientation when setting up and the pattern comes out on the underside. My old brain cannot jump from what i call the normal set up method (widely found), to the way the authors do it. I wonder if you could do a video explaining how to solve this please? I love your loom and must make one for myself. I like to sit on the bed with my loom on my lap taking a rest (I'm very old) 😂 Thank you

Thank you! The yarn is from my stash. I bought out the remains of a yarn store a few years ago and have no idea where to source more. However, I have found that fingering weight or sock yarn is very similar.

The name of the knot you used with the white cotton yarn is a cow hitch, also called a larks head knot.

Do people tend to buy your towels in pairs? That warp experiment was sure a success!
@KariFellWeaves8 ай бұрын
I sell towels individually and have seen no pattern in buying habits. I have sold anywhere from one to 5 towels in one transaction. Pairs don't seem to be a thing.

The knot where you loop the cord through itself is called a larks head knot.

I enjoyed watching you work here so much. Your very natural way of showing us around, how you take notes as you go, get disappointed when you forget to, register pleasure at the surprise loveliness of the last towel, it all was like having a visit with you. Nice. I will be back!

I have dyed cotton fabrics and yarns several times. A suggestion for you is to soak the yarn in a 5 gallon bucket with the hottest temperature for water you can. Drop the yarn in the bucket and let soak for about 24 or longer. What this does is releases a great deal of excess dye into the water, so you don't have to rinse out to get clear water so often. Also helps with the yarn from bleeding afterwards. Procionn dyes like to stay attached to the yarn but are not reactive to the cotton making them bleed to other fabrics. Love the color it is always fun to see the effects.

Thank you. I have much more experience with dyeing cotton since this video was made and yes, I have been doing just that- hot soaks. Good to have that info out there for anyone wishing to try this!
