It's time for some chaotic hair dye content inspired by the Pantone colour of the year for 2022 - Very Peri!
I thought I would share my pastel hair makeover blue hair transformation with you and review the Arctic Fox hair dye in the shade periwinkle, it's one of their most popular colours and I've seen lots of great reviews for it. I've tried formulas from Limecrime, Manic Panic and Brite Organix so let me know if you have any hair dye brands for pastel and coloured hair that you would recommend on my quest to find the best hair dyes - I've heard really good things about Overtone as well.

Colors like this should go on as is cause they’re already diluted. Adding conditioner to a diluted color just makes it toner, as you found out. Which is a shame because if you put it on as is you’d probably get closer to the swatch sample. Honestly I would just go over your result again with the same color and don’t dilute it. You basically pretoned. So it’s ready for the real color lol

@@RedHairedRiot some people’s hair get porous because they bleach their hair that’s been previously bleach and I know how my hair takes and I bleach my hair evenly so diluting it is not a problem since I know what I’m doing and know how my hair takes to dyes

My experience with Arctic Fox has always been like that, the consistency of the dye just gives it that patchy look with the lighter colors like periwinkle or girls night. Sucks too cause I love those colors.

I like this color on you! So pretty!! I do think the splotchiness is partially Arctic Fox, every color of theirs I've used came out splotchy. Can also be that parts of your hair are more porous than others and the more porous parts grab onto the color better. And thinner sections will always help especially with direct dyes since the don't develop/swell so don't reach the spots you've missed or didn't saturate fully. ☺️

Arctic Fox is one of the best direct dyes out there. Spotchiness is either caused by poor application(thin slices saturated with product are necessary), using too pastel of a shade, or not starting with a light enough canvas. This girl's hair is not level 10. A pale blue shade like periwinkle requires a level 10 platinum blonde canvas.

I don't think the splotchiness is the dye's fault. Pastels are super finicky and need to be put overtop of an even level 10 base to avoid all splotchiness, Although her hair is lightened her hair wasn't quite a level 10, combined with diluting an already pastel dye by 50%, which is heavy dilution. that's most likely a big part of why she got the splotchiness (also in fairness she did show us that she had banding in her hair before she started and banding makes it super hard to get an even color deposit in general). To avoid the splotchiness, Instead of diluting it she could have ordered another bottle(or even two) and really saturated with the pure periwinkle (and if it were me I would mix a small dollop of something slightly darker like purple rain to make it just dark enough to take more evenly to a base that isn't quite a level 10) also, if she had taken much much smaller sections that would have made a really big difference too, she took two decently sized sections (although slightly large for working with pastels) for the first two sections and then just let all of the rest of her hair down and plopped dye on top of the entire rest of her hair. With pastel dyes especially you really have to take teeny tiny sections and then saturate and work the product in like crazy(honestly though I do get why she might not have done that because application can take a crazy long time to do it that way) Using a tint brush, I find can also really help push the dye into the hair and pull it through more evenly than just hands can. But honestly despite the slight splotchiness it looks super good! And with an already pastel dye I was super surprised that it showed up at all after being diluted so much and then put overtop of a base that is slightly dark it's honestly kinda impressive and alot of pastel dyes on the market more than likely would have not shown up nearly as much if at all.

YEY, it looks so cute! I was thinking of going for the color of the year too. Next time try washing your hair only with shampoo, that way the dye lays on more evenly. I also start aplying to the top of my hair and front pieces, since they fade quicker

I tried their periwinkle color w/ their darker blue and found myself......also incredibly splotchy? and this was w/o using an additive conditioner or smashing it in to the hair shafts. I wasn't impressed at all. 100% would recommend trying Iroiro if you do dye at home again !and going w/ a darker color so it can fade out to that nice periwinkle :>

Also! I noticed you work the hair dye into your hair a lot and that may be why you get splotchy dye. When you mix hair dye with conditioner, the moment the hair colour starts going lighter when you’re working it into your hair, stop! I know it’s hard to section out small sections in your hair but it does help with the splotchyness for that reason. ❤️❤️

That is not how that works. Conditioner only makes the Pigments less concentrated. What she should do is remove the excess conditioner after working it in to see where there is missing spots cuz the pigments goes into the hair and leaves pigment less conditioner. So the conditioner is white bcs the pigments are on the hair!!

as a dutch person I thought the most cringe thing was the stereotype american thinking they know better than everyone because they are quirky and ~american~. But the french men were also pretty terrrible. and GOD THE FASHION, havent watched season 2 but season one had Emily constantly almost have cute outfits, but because of the exxessiveness it became an obnoxious spoof of itself almost every time. we'll wait on the hairdresser jury lol but I have a feeling that maybe that's for dyes that have bleach/developer as opposed to pure colour depositing?? and the chemicals in bleach will react with the metal, but as it's just pigment / conditioner I think I might be a-ok? but that's just my thoughts, may have to banish my lil whisk hahaha

Direct dyes are not oxidizing dyes, so it eon't matter. If you are using permanent or semiperm then you should avoid metal.

I am also using hair dye more than ever these days, I have gone from auburn (OG hair is a muddy brown) to strawberry blond and now to rose gold. I just had my hair professionally done, so I am looking better. I feel if it cheers you up, it is your hair, just dye it. BTW a thank you also to Alex @prettypastelplease for also giving me the push to do the dye.
