I would LOVE to see more dip-dyeing videos! I would be interested to see you explore color theory by dipping analogous colors versus complimentary colors and also how the positioning of deeper versus lighter ends can affect both types of color pairings. Also, I think it would be really cool to see you dip a color like Radioactive or Purple Pop to see if 1) you can still see the fluorescence where the second color overlaid the first one and 2) how those pigments react to dip dyeing in general. Thanks for another great video!

I love your videos! A quick question, my water is listed as a 7.8, which seems very basic...How much more vinegar would you suggest using, as I don't want to buy a test kit just yet?
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
Hi Katrina, I don't have a good number off the top of my head. I would classify this as "slightly" basic versus very (7 is neutral and pH is a logarithmic scale. So a pH of 9 is a lot more basic than 8.) I might start with 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar in 8 cups of water and then adjust depending on how fast or slow the colors are striking.

I love all 5! On a side note I stumbled across a game on my phone called 'I (heart) Hue'. in it you arrange colors in their hues. When you take a course in color theory and one of the things you learn is how you can change the way a color looks by placing it against other colors. This little game is a great way to see how you can change to look of a color. `It's fun and since I like jigsaw puzzles it's rather addicting. it's available on both iPhone and Android.
@MollySing4 жыл бұрын
Could this be extended to the color triangles? So doing 3 primaries and creating layered colors by changing the phase? So your A yarn was 180deg, your B was 90deg and your bonus was 0deg. I can see a cool effect with 3 colors and 120deg steps.
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
You could do this with the primaries for sure. It would be hard to make a LOT of conclusions because when you dip you get a gradient of color and it would be hard to back calculate the proportion. BUT - this exact experiment you proposed is on my list to do for sure!

I really liked that yarn mop, am wondering if a 1/2 concentration of the blued steel might look nice by itself. Really liked this video, it's so useful seeing things visually and I was surprised that I could see yellow/orange from the fire engine red on the screen at the end, must be in the mix?
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I think that it was mostly the white balance of the video being off. I don't think I saw much yellow in person. Blued steel is LOVELY and I really want to play with it more.

I would love a part 2. I am trying to figure out how to do an "Autism" colorway, but the main colors are red/blue/yellow. How would you do this without creating a mud color?
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I would hand paint the colors on the countertop (and then wrap the yarn up in plastic wrap to microwave.) so I could have a lot of control over the spread. You could use guar gum or a similar thickener to help keep the placement precise.

It occurs to me that you've never broken Wilton's Violet by grabbing a middle section to dip with so that two ends are going in at the same time.

Hi ???? Can u help this beginner in understanding how exactly to measure and make stock solutions with all dyes even the food coloring dyes and acid dyes? I’m no good with mathematics and understanding all those things and I’m getting the new Dive into dying boxes too . Please help cause I don’t really get all the math behind it. I know measuring out ounces and teaspoons and such like that but all the percentages %% and all and how to figure that stuff out can’t get . And reading ur chart thing in booklet that comes with the dying boxes just goes in one side of head through other side 🥺☹️ Thank you lots 😉
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kriss, A 1% stock solution is 1 gram of dye in 100 mL of liquid (so 10 g of dye in 1000 mL or 1 L of liquid.) it is just an easy way to start to make some of the math a bit easier. A 1% DOS (Depth of shade) is 1 g of dye per 100 g of yarn. So if you had your 1% stock solution (1 g dye/ 100 mL liquid) then you would need 100 mL of the stock solution to dye 100 g of yarn a 1% DOS. When it comes to food coloring, it is harder since we dont measure food coloring in terms of grams. Check out Dyepot Weekly #117 - I talk about the math a lot there in that video.

@@ChemKnitsTutorials Oh one more thing. In the first box for dive into dying.. the booklet says the yarn was worsted weight yarn but instead we got sock weight yarn and says 300 something yards 100 grams.. do u know if that is 300 something yards per skein in the kit with 2 skeins of this sock weight yarns ? @@KrissD. it sounds like there was a yarn substitution for the box 1 then. If fingering weight I would assume 300 yards /100 g.
