[10:41] Adding the yarn
no acid in the containers yet
[17:49] Adding acid

Doing the math, all the diagonals from top left to bottom right should be the same ratios at different depths of shade. So I believe that you just have 9 different ratios and then multiple DOS on those ratios. The 9 that you pointed out would make a great fade are the 9 different ratios. The "middle" 16 are the DOS off of those. So when you felt like some of the colors were pretty similar, it's because they were. It was the same color at a different DOS.

When you dye a base that isn't 100% protein fiber, does that technically change the DOS? If you have a 100g skein, but it's 15% cotton neps, does that mean you are really dyeing something more like an 85g skein?
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! So the 15% neps don't take up color, but when you're talking about the depth of shade you're still talking about the total weight. So a 1% DOS on a donegal yarn may look different from a 1% DOS on 100% wool for that reason. BUT I've found that some of the donegal not taking up color mutes the colors a bit, so that is a consideration, too.
@pattigolden1
@pattigolden1 2 жыл бұрын
Very pretty.... I would have gone 3&5, but I lean towards darks colors. I'd like to see it on the regular base, The Donegal Tweed is great ) LOVE tweeds), but you're not getting true color...
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials 2 жыл бұрын
I think the deeper colors are pretty true but you're right, the more pastel color are infulenced by the base

So, initially, you let the yarn sit in the dye solution plus acid for two days without heating it, and then you steamed it afterwards to set the dye. Is that correct? Thank you for this video by the way. I wasn't sure whether it was possible to mix different dyes to create a completely new colour, but you've just demonstrated how to do it.

Why do they have to be steam set when they sat outside in the sun for two days. Shouldn't having them sit in the sun set them.
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials 2 жыл бұрын
The sun could be enough for that length of time. I like to do a final steam set because some pigments really do need a higher temperature to properly set. The final steam is so fast since I can do most of the samples all to gether that it just gives me some reassurance.
Now THIS is entertainment! 🤣
