I was so surprised that you got such a beautiful yellow out of this experiment, I thought that it was going to be the one that washed out to a very pale yellow**wrong** this is why I love that you love doing these experiments, you never really know what will happen and like you've always said, going in without the total intention of dyeing for a specific result always results in something beautiful and we get to learn so much from it!! Enjoyed this so much and I didn't even get disappointed about the blue washing out!!! Gorgeous Yarn again! Happy Dyeing!

I was very pleasantly surprised that this worked as well as they did. Sometimes (as you probably know) things wash out and then I start to feel sad. But these yarns are so special. :)

I wish I was brave enough to dye my own yarn! Ugh I watch your videos obsessively haha

It really is very easy! If you have access to some KoolAid and some wool blend yarn you should just give it a go. that's how I got started down this (amazing) rabbit hole. ;)

ChemKnits Tutorials but you need to cook it and use vinegar, and it seems messy ahhh. Maybe i will but for now I'll just watch you be awesome haha

Fair point. I do have a shop if you want to get some of these yarns without dyeing them yourself. ;) chemknitscreations.etsy.com

I just thought of something, what about ethylene blue? You can get it at aquarium supply or tropical fish shops. It definitely stains protiens, my hands, top of my foot, and the cat was the world's first blue and white calico. The blue powder here looks very close to what I switched to after a bottle of liquid split open because someone had scored the side of the bottle when they used an utility knife to open the box. The color didn't wash out of me or the cat.🐳

I just added it to my list to research it. :)

I wonder if the blue is not as vibrant because it was in the center and the others were directly above the burners.

I really don't think so. I have a feeling that if I were to dissolve the remaining sprulina in a pot and try to dye yarn with it I wouldn't get much color. However, I might try it with some mordants later this summer to see if that helps. :)

Interesting. Can't wait to see 😃

Is there any reason you use vinegar vs citric acid? Thanks for the podcast!

Theo Rice habit mostly. I started with vinegar so I haven't switched over yet. 😁

Just thought of something, how about a pump for your vinegar
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I really should get a large condiment pump bottle! Someday I might just switch to citric acid... For now I pour my 2 gallon vinegar into a 1 gallon bottle. ;)

How d ok you get driffent by mixing. Colors together
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely mix colors together. This videos isn't the best example, but I love mixing food coloring together. You won't always get solid colors. Different food coloring molecules bind to yarn at different rates which can cause the colors to break apart. Check out the breaking violet videos for some examples of this. :)
