I'm 36, and I've been on my own since I was 7 - that's when I realized I wasn't a "normal man" and when I realized I'd lose my family for good if I turned out to be the "fag" so many of my classmates thought I would be... Coming out and losing my family definitely cemented this feeling of loneliness, and I've been unable to build real connections since. I moved out at 15, and I think that's when my life really ended. What kind of a life is it when your whole community is left behind? I wonder when this feeling of loneliness will finally end - probably when I die. So I am really looking forward to it.

@@prkrmc6457 I am like you. A 37 yrs old familyless fag. No friend, no lover, no one. Death is pretty much a relief to think about for me. On a brighter side, I shared 13 years of my life with a dog: she was( still is)my everything. I will meaby adopt one other hairy angel before I go. They are not like humans, they are kind, loyal, brave. Having a walk in the nature with a happy doggo is the best thing ever happened to me. I wish you some joy, love and happiness my Friend.

I can feel this already. Being over 40 starts making things a bit more difficult, and loneliness begins to settle in.

As a gay man, I've ALWAYS been lonely. Pretty much my entire life. But I don't think this is just a gay problem. Plenty of straight middle-aged and elderly men commit suicide. It's our modern culture, which is very alienating and isolating. Especially since smartphones came out.
@Robert-vf6ny

Lots of these straight middle aged guys are actually closeted themselves, even if they have their own families. The lucky ones come to terms with themselves, fund a guy, and divorce their wives or leave their girlfriends. Facts.

I mean yeah, but being marginalized plays a huge factor in this too. Queer people tend to be more lonely than your average cishet person (even if they're lonely themselves too) for one simple reason - the vast majority of us aren't born in a community, and have to actively seek it out and fight to maintain it. That plays a HUGE tool in the development of your own personhood and sense of safety. We lack the numbers and the safety nets that cishet people do. I've personally noticed that I am always othered to some extent, even by the most accepting people, being perpetually filtered through a narrow view until most of my personhood vanishes.

I'm from Latin America (Costa Rica), and I'm gay. I grew up in a Christian family and in an intolerant and ignorant third-world society, so it was difficult for me to accept myself since I was a child, receiving since that age and from everywhere, messages about how everything related to me was bad, wrong, or a reason to go to hell. Nowadays all of that is different for me and my current context in life, but I see my grandfather, 90 years old, around all this family taking care of him, and when I see that, I know that's how things are not going to be in own my final years, instead of that, I see (maybe biased by my overthinking) a lot of loneliness, and I understand why gay men think about ending their lives before that point. It's scary.

I’m aro/ace. There is not a day I don’t think about it. I don’t think the guy featured in the video is happy. I think he’s just dealing with life. I’m just dealing with life. I’m just waiting to die or waiting for the day that I have had enough. On that day, I will do it. I will add that being asexual I have felt rejection from the lgbt. We aren’t even mentioned. I used to belong to a Facebook group for aromantic men. Most of us are depressed. Not having a place to accept us just adds to our misery.

You would date him and then move on to your next adventure. It's how gay community works. Also he is an older guy. I know these types, they would rather die alone than to even date people their age. Most of them want you for your youth. Thankfully, I was able to distant myself from the gay culture. Found my partner, who was a great match for me, who was just as tired of the gay community as I was. Back then it was the straight culture that was to blame. But our generation, we did not have that problem, and we still face this loneliness bcz of the gay culture. Most of my friends are either lonely, or go in and out of relationships without even trying to make things work. Its all about sex adventures nothing else. Then they end up being lonely. Sorry for being judgemental, but this was my experience within that community. I have rarely ever heard other people saying very good things about the community either.
