Kasey Altman lived an almost ideal life in NYC before she was diagnosed with a rare form of juvenile cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. Instead of choosing to battle this cancer alone, she created a Tiktok account to document her journey and find community. Through the cancertok community, Kasey became a leading advocate and activist for the cancertok community.

Beautiful 😍 soul. Was a decent young woman 👧. She will surely be missed. It just tells us young peeps that life is very depressing & unpredictable. I've seen so many dead people in my young life of 20s. It's so cringe that 😬 it is very deflating all da time! Life is unpredictable and issues usually come up. Anyone from any age is not guaranteed tomorrow. Even young people should think 🤔 about heaven ✨️ or hell 🔥. Therefore if you want to spend eternity on heaven after your life here on earth 🌎, you should believe in your heart ❤️ that Jesus Christ is your Savior. If you don't, you will miss going to heaven and end up in the lake of fire. It is terrible so I beg you to make the only correct decision for God to allow you to go to heaven. @@small_fries7573please don't preach to people like that. Just because it's what you believe, and you think you need to tell people about Jesus "before it's too late", doesn't mean that everyone is just going to be okay with that. It's literally just for your own benefit, because you believe that if you don't say anything, then their blood is on your hands if they pass away without learning about christ. But that's incredibly insensitive and frankly it's selfish. Other people's salvation with christ is not your responsibility. You just focus on yourself and your own relationship with God, and let other people live their lives the way that they choose to.

You ever pre grieve though? My mom was diagnosed with a cancer. 20 to 30% it's not terminal. It was like she died that day.. we all wrote her off. She got out of the surgery and chemo with absolutely no immune system then covid hit, and she died again. The odds weren't good. She never got covid, thank god, and the cancer has been in remission since. She's doing great.

True... my dear mom just passed monday of this week from cancer. She was so generous, so hardworking, she adored her job and even wanted to help her colleague when she was sick. She was so intelligent, she brought such an energy everywhere she went. I miss her so much. She was so so strong against the disease. I still don't realize she's gone. She should be in her dream house right now (that she got just 2 years ago) , welcoming everyone she loved in with amazing meals. She should be going to work and having fun. She should still be there with me.... But cancer, this disease that I absolutely hate and despise, took her from me and my family

I’m a hospice nurse…young patients are a million times more difficult to care for. There are a lot more questions, and there’s no “placebo” answers. When someone is older they have grappled with their mortality a bit more and tend to resign more gracefully. When we have someone this young and vibrant it really creates a novel dynamic. There’s no fairness, the universe makes no sense and all we can control is what we have control over, and sometimes all that is is how WE interpret and process our emotions. Little kids don’t struggle with the existential grief the way someone say 16-60 will deal with. That range is what I refer to as the “fighters”. They’re determined to live and love and get the absolute most from life. Hearing her talk about regret being the biggest fear is 100% the truth, it’s a small consolation in the face of insurmountable grief. Sometimes I can’t do the sunshine stuff and I just say cry, cry because it’s all straight bullshit.

She was exactly like Kasey, so full of life until the very end filling the room with humour and smiles and Kasey reminds me of my mom I couldn't help but cry watching the video. I don't know I think in my opinion the whole social media thing I think he can be great. But I think that people depend on it too much to get through the day I think. And I also think that it's now a way to babysit children. Like instead of watching your kids and putting on the parental settings and stuff like that. People buy these kids computers and cell phones and they just let them go ham. That's not good because it desensitizes them. I think that you can't blame the way a person is on social media or video games but I definitely think it plays a part. But when she made the comment about I can't stand when people ask me how long I have left because nobody asks their oncologist because they don't want to know. I would have to say I strongly disagree with that. Cuz if I found out tomorrow that I was dying that would be my first question. How long do I have left what are the chances that it can be beat. What is the survival rate what is the mortality rate. And to not want to know that is bizarre to me. I mean I guess you can't really ever know. I mean I guess it's like the forecast. You know the meteorologist will tell you that it's not supposed to rain and then you look outside and it's pouring down rain. Say anything could happen I guess but I personally would want to know I would want to know everything that there is to know if something like that happened to me. But I'm also a very rational individual at the same time so I think it would drive me nuts not to know every statistic every likelihood every bad outcome every rare thing that could happen. But that's just how I am. She seems like an eternal optimist. Me not so much lol I can be but with something like that I mean I would really have to take a good hard look at the situation. I don't know that it would scare me I don't know if I would have gotten dizzy when I got told I had cancer. Maybe if you found out you had like HIV I would feel like that lol. But I don't know about cancer though. It's just one of those things that it's medicine is constantly changing. And things that were never possible before possible now. Like at one point to bring back up the HIV thing I just watched a documentary on that. It used to be a death sentence. And now you can take drugs that drop your viral load to where you're undetectable. And I don't know that that's for the best. Because you already have people then know that they have it and they're running around sleeping with people and not telling them. So I don't know I guess it would just depend on who you are what's going on in your life and your situation

Epsom salt bath are helpful, ashwagandha daily at least 500 mg is very good for lowering cortisol and just helping with well-being. I am the most sorry to hear about your family, friends and children not being supportive 💔 I do understand and most people in the world do not know that when someone is disabled its a real luxury to have people run to help and be supportive when many will instead turn away, good people with real love are rare. I hate this. Pushing doctors to tell you when you're going to die. Even worse is doctors who relent and therefore continue to perpetuate the myth. News flash: Nobody knows when you're going to die. Ok sure, if you're very near death and it's obvious, a doctor might say you have "a couple weeks, a few days, minutes," etc.) But other than that, no, doctors cannot actually tell you when you will pass. Yes, there are many published studies that have concluded things such as: Statistically, people over the age of X with Y diagnosis/comorbidity/treatment modality will survive an average of Z months/years after XX happens. These studies may or may not be valid but regardless that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about badgering physicians to tell you when you're going to die. If/when a doctor chooses to answer this question, please know that it's being answered for one of two reasons: a. In order to placate the patient and/or his/her friends/family, or b. Physician ego (a remnant from the past, where physicians traditionally played more of a paternal role, where a sick patient would unquestionably put full responsibility for their life, in its entirety, in their physician's hands, as if their doctor were Jesus himself.) I have never answered this question when posed to me, and I never will. Because I can't. Because I don't know. If you need help finding biomedical statistics, if any exist that are pertinent to your case, that I can help you with. Aside from that, I can't help with the question. Honest. So many times in my career, incrediously: "Dr. X (had the nerve to tell) my mom/brother/friend/dog/cat/hamster that he/she only had a couple months to live. (What an ignorant a-hole)...He/she "fought so hard" and lived another 2 years!" Or, "My cousin from Alabama was diagnosed with cancer and she thought she had 'more time'...but she died 4 months later. Now her family is suing that doctor for not telling her how dire her situation was." (Yes, there are real cases like this.)

Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. 🙏 Have a nice day.

Eventually I will be on hospice and that may help, but it's not like having friends and good family to be with you. This one hit close to home for me. My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer a few months ago. The cancer has spread throughout her body, and the chemo isn’t stopping or shrinking it. She has been having heart issues from one of the chemo meds. So she had to get that fixed. It was very tough when she decided to just shave her head because she has always had beautiful hair. The cancer center she uses doesn’t allow anyone to come inside with her, and that sucks but I understand why.

I'm a Death Doula and work with the dying in hospice - it's my passion. I love what I do because I enjoy extending my love to other people who are in that very difficult situation and provide support for them. I love documentaries that address the topics of death and dying and I find Kasey to be an incredible and truly loving, kind, and inspirational person. One of my biggest dreams for this world and humankind is to rid of the death-phobia that is so prevalent in our society (largely North America) and was so evident in this documentary. It's pervasive and runs so deeply. We are so disconnected in our modern world of what even makes us human -- it's our death! Death is not something that "happens" to us. We will fully experience death when it is our time, just like everything else in nature experiences it. We are not victims of our death. I'm afraid that comments such as "I was murdered by cancer" will just continue this fear-based idea that so many people have of death and the dying. It's scary because our society has told us it should be scary. I hate that she felt like that in her dying days. Despite that, she really seemed to radiate positivity and energy. Kasey has left her mark and her legacy. Our society ignores death until it's right on our doorstep and then we wonder, "why did this happen to me?" I really encourage all of you to take the time and contemplate this topic. Those of us who love those who have died will grieve them, absolutely. And that grief is also what makes us 100% human. This IS the human experience -- every bit of it. She led an incredible life here and I'm really impressed that she was able to document so much content in the midst of dying and share what it was like for her with the rest of the world. Many people I sit with in hospice haven't ever contemplated that they would one day die. This is the sad part to me. If anyone has interest in works by those who have great experience with death and the dying, try out Stephen Jenkinson (his books have absolutely changed my life and perspective); Alua Arthur who was my Death Doula instructor or Deanna Cochran - Death Doula/former hospice nurse. All of these wonderful people have many KZbin videos as well. I encourage you to always continue learning, stay curious, stay loving, and continue to be supportive to those who are going through hard times, like Kasey.

I don’t think it’s scary because society has told us that. The fear of death is deeply rooted in our biology, it is a self-preservation instinct. I am scared of death myself, not because of the experience of death but because it would mean an end to my life, my existence. Being a young person I do not want to cease to exist. The fear of death is normal and natural. So, I do not understand your point about our society causing the fear of death…

@@katyaforshort the thought of death and images of death being associated with fear in almost every context in which it's talked about certainly doesn't help. besides mentions of someone passing or on halloween, a "spooky" time of the year, death is rarely ever talked about. as a mexican discovering how much my ancestors revered death as a natural force and had 0 qualms about making art and celebrating death, as is done in day of the dead celebrations all throughout south america today has helped me immensely to not have a fear of death and realize my time will eventually come as will everybody elses. this hasn't taken away my self preservation instinct either, moreso helped it because i've realized i am an incarnate of death and my time here is very short so i might as well make the most out of every last moment and breath i have! i feel everyone should live with the same attitude instead of neing afraid of the literal inevitable

So basically, we're going to be doing a lot of innovating all the way thru. Sometimes we're lucky... If we're not, it's important that you understand how valuable you are, and how much you will have given us, scientifically, humanly, spiritually, and how much you will have given someone you'll never know..." Wow, she is a bright light. I’m sorry to hear that she is no longer here in her physical form, but her words will continue to inspire through her online presence. May she rest in power. My condolences to her friends and family.

My gosh. I expected the treatment to work and for her to have a happy ending. She was so beautiful and optimistic. I hope people focus on how she lived and not what took her life.

I'm so happy that I watched this but I'm also so sad because I went to follow her halfway through the vid and found out that she had already passed. Life is too short and some of us, me for sure, worry about the small things in life. RIP Kasey. You had a beautiful soul.

Thank so much Kasey for sharing your life with me & others . I had bowel cancer 4 years clear now. Love your postive vibe & glad Tik Tok has been your vice & like so many others share with you and relate to what you are going though. for me acceptance was a big part & looking back Been Humble when i feel those negative feeling creeping in. Plus the family & friends support in the 8 weeks treatment took its toll..I was one out of 5000 so i knew I wasn't alone . The greatest gift to life is Talk...Thank you so much again to you and Family ..Stay strong and peace to you

Life isn't fair. This is a reminder to all of us to live proud and live with meaning. Our time is short and in the end, we all pass away. Don't waste your time being angry, bitter or resentful. See the beauty in life and grab hold of that, we owe it to ourselves and to the people like Kasey to observe and appreciate these things.

She opened her self to the world in a time when most of us, myself included, would have curled up in desperate isolation. Mortality is a pill we all must swallow and whether it's taken with honey or vinegar it's still taken. This girl chose honey, I can only hope I'm strong enough to do the same. R.I.P

All that keeps running through my mind when I'm hearing you speak is, what a sweet soul. I'm so sorry Kasey, that I got to know you through this terrible disease and this video. And not through your really cool travel experiences or showing off your skills in volleyball. But from beginning to end, your life has been amazing and you definitely lived life to the fullest while existing on this earthly plane. Despite getting this horrific death sentence and it cutting your life so short. It didn't deter you even though I'm sure that some days were worse than others. But your will, resiliency and strength were much stronger than this disease. You continued to thrive as best as you could and you contributed so much to the collective. You and people like you inspire me all the time and you give me a lot of courage too. Thank you for being you. I know that wherever you are, you're rocking it. Sending you a strong hug and a kiss through the ether 🔥✨
