Nintendo dropped the ball by not purchasing Rare when they had the chance, I could only imagine the bangers they would be putting out today... Then again, it's possible Nintendo would just have them on the shelf like they have Next Level Games and Retro Studios (although they still develop games)

Even though we got Banjo and Kazooie, I feel like Dream was such a tragic loss. It looked to have quite the potential in both forms that were shown off in Rare Replay (the footage shown in the video) It should be noted that some things from it found their way into other games. Captain Blackeye who can be found in Banjo Tooie was to be the main antagonist of Dream and even hints to the fact of this game when you talk to him saying things like "Once, I had a dream" and "A bear and bird took my glory, kind of looked like you" Also the main theme (heard in this video) got reworked into a Donkey Kong track and later into a track used in Viva Piñata called Oven-Fresh Days. The song High Tides, Swift Sails found in Rare Replay would eventually be reworked for Gloomy Galleon in DK64

So basically, every Rare game on the N64 is like that episode of Black Books where they try to write a children’s book. “How about instead of the caveman, there’s an elephant? And instead of the real-time strategy and the time-travel, they’re all racing because he’s… lost his balloon?” “But it would still be my story in essence, my vision?” “…Yeah.”

I often hear the Klobb was named in 'honour' of Ken Lobb, but I'm not sure how accurate this is. At the time it was thought that naming the absolutely worst gun in the game after him was meant as an insult, after Nintendo of America had forced Rare to censor the more violent aspects of the game/blood and the use of actual gun names. I certainly remember reading this in N64 Magazine. (Seriously, the Klobb is a pea shooter with horrendous accuracy/RoF, and a miserable magazine size. You don't accidentally make something THAT awful).

Censoring the gun names is a legal issue. Many real gun names are copyrighted, and they probably didn't have the time to verify which ones were safe or not It's the reason why even some COD games change the name of some real guns. In some releases they just... didn't get the rights lol

I can’t imagine the feeling of realizing the only way a game could be released in a good state was for it to switch genres. I feel like the N64 Disk Drive was a huge missed oportunity for the system, it would've brought some needed extra space for plenty of games that needed it and the fact that it was made with magnetic disks in mind would've meant cheaper games for the developers to produce and probably cheaper for consumers to buy. I think that's the main difference between Nintendo and Microsoft Microsoft found out Rare had a prototype of Project Dream and put It on KZbin where as Nintendo would have either locked It In their vault or destroyed It

I have never heard of Project Dream. The N64 had a major lack of RPGs and that sounds cool. It can't be worse than Quest 64.

Since Mariokart 8 has Excitebike and F-Zero tracks remade for it, I have been hoping the next game would get a Diddy Kong Racing track remade for that game.

Still playing my console just about everyday especially since I got an Everdrive baby. Always have loved the console there's just so much about it that's charming and comfy. Then all the beta stuff is so fascinating and I get the biggest urge to want them more than other games. I'm so glad the n64 has recently had a big boom with modding, the gigaleak, and iceberg stuff.

I'm interested in the time traveling caveman somehow becoming the tactician in a command and conquer style RTS. I mean, he would have had to go into a future where none of the people with ray guns, know about survival tactics such as covering yourself in mud so that they can't be detected by the evil robot's themo-vision or something. or an alien with shield tech that can only be bested by slow moving projectiles, like arrows, javelins, spear thrusting.... oh and you could probably have the caveman learn a thing or two, and incorporate it/them into his tactics? imagine a caveman with a rocket launcher firing towards a rock face which collapses onto enemy targets.

Rare was worried that wings coming out of a backpack didn't make sense? Banjo is a bipedal bear that wears shorts and a backpack, who is collecting puzzle pieces to try to stop an ugly green witch from stealing his sisters looks. But backpack wings was a stretch too far I guess lol
