thanks for such a valuable video , by the way could u tell me why I can't use range to select the portion of a clip before import ? I tried to range select a portion to import but as soon as I select the clip the whole clip shows a yellow boundry around it and when I click away the boundary turns gray , I can't use range tool and its very frustrating , thanks

Instead of GHB I set a macro in BetterTouchTool so CMD+click is blade, SHIFT+click is trim start, and OPT+click is trim end. That way with the skimming, I can just keep my hand in one place (where it naturally rests for me) and only have to use mouse clicks when I'm cutting up my edits. I do talking head stuff normally so I turn off the macros when I'm done so I don't accidentally click when I'm selecting or duplicating

My guy Dylan always bringing the heat 🔥 I’ve been using [ and ] for trimming clips. Makes so much more sense to keep shortcut closer to center of keyboard, so my hands don’t have to travel and I don’t have to look down at keyboard. Gold!

Great video! G H B seems so cramped to me. I use Q W E (Left, Middle[blade], Right) which lets me rest my thumb on the space bar to play and pause. It's personal preference of course but I feel this works so well! It also means my index finger rests on R so I'm figuring out what to assign that to now.
@dylanjohndickerson4 ай бұрын
Ah interesting! The reason I like GHB is because my two pointer fingers always rest on F and J next to them. So these keys are always visible. I never need to look down. To each his own!

😂 Great idea. I was actually considering having myself laying down in what looks like a chalk outline with the FCP logo sticking out of my body but I figured this thumbnail would be more effective. It's doing okay, not stellar though.

This video should have 1000's of more likes, Totally awesome. The GHB key board set up is worth thousands of likes alone. I do have a question though, I do not use Proxies at all M2 Studio Max here and never really need to but I do see in my Library I have a folder called Render Files and in that folder is another folder High Quality Files which get's HUGE and takes up a ton of space. When saving my library as a back up I erase all those files but what are they and can I erase them during A Project or will it screw up something? That folder get's huge during a project. Thanks for any information about that. I am in the middle of HUGE project and do not want to mess anything up. But would love to save some space if I can while still working on it...? Thank you! I imagine if I erase it, every time I open a timeline I have been working on it will have to render that timeline again before I can keep working on it?
@dylanjohndickersonАй бұрын
Thanks so much man 👊🏼 So you can delete those with no issues. You likely have background rendering turned on which I highly suggest turning off. Press command and comma to bring up your preferences and it’s in the editing tab I think. You can erase all the render files you currently have too.
@ekphotographyАй бұрын
@@dylanjohndickerson Thanks, You are the fastest ever to respond..LOL Yes I saw you said turn that off in settings, I thought I had it off. But with that off, That means I have to continually render the timeline manually? I have like 30 projects currently in one library and wondering if also every time I open them it will have to render again if I delete those files? Hope that makes sense Thanks man
@ekphotographyАй бұрын
Those render folders are currently at 400 gigs... OMG
@dylanjohndickersonАй бұрын
@@ekphotography You don't really need to have your timeline rendered. Unless you're really having trouble with playback, but in that instance, I'd just render that specific clip that's causing issues by selecting it and pressing Control R. Your project renders when it exports so it's not really needed.

Where do you get the sfx for your transitions etc? Do you spend long finding these sounds for your videos? Thanks. Ray
@dylanjohndickerson4 ай бұрын
Hey Ray! I get them from many places...Artlist, KZbin, and a bunch of other places to be honest. I have a collection at this point. And it doesn't take me long for the tutorials because I have a library with the exact sfx I like to use. For other projects, sound design definitely takes a bit longer. Have you checked out some of my sound design tutorials? I think you'd really like those. Here are two: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYq5eWeNbJiqic0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-YdIycgJl7f9k

No no keep it 30fps or 24fps. Since you're slowing it down, you're conforming to that frame rate anyways. @@adamkurtz1869

Turning off automatic rendering is stupid... it takes a lot longer to render manually...
@dylanjohndickerson4 ай бұрын
The video renders when you export. Unless your computer can't keep up, there's no reason to have rendering turned on. And if your computer can't keep up, sometimes it's just a clip or two that causes issues and if that's the case, 'control R' renders them quickly. If your computer still can't keep up, it's better to just transcode your media to proxy media. Notice how when you exit out of Final Cut and open your project again, your timeline has to be re-rendered. Not sure why that is exactly but it's silly to have files always being rendered, slowing down your machine and taking up useless space on your hard drive. This is why you might as well transcode to proxy. One time transcode and you should be able to edit/playback smoothly. Whereas with background rendering turned on, every time you make an adjustment or close out of FCP and come back in, those files will be rendered again. Unless you know how to delete your render files, I bet your libraries are enormous, Sennadeep.

Another tip is to edit in a lower resolution. If you’ve a 4k project set the project to 1080p whilst you’re working on it and change to 4k when you’re ready to render and export.
