I'm a huge fan. The strings sound great. They are long-lasting, and have outstanding tuning stability. The customer service is superb as well. Scott sent me a complementary assortment of high E strings as I looked for the best gauge for my Telecaster, and gave me lots of good advice and encouragement via email. I offered to send back the ones I didn't need, or pay for the ones I would use. But Scott wouldn't hear of it. (I now always order 9.5, 12, 14, 24w, 32, 42)

1st discovered Stringjoy a few months ago. Had settled on GHS, then got a itch to see what's new out there. Found great sting info and am using different company for acoustic than for electric guitars. It's definitely a journey, but Stringjoy has a feel and sound that's been consistent. Breaking in period is short and longevity is quite good. Custom sets are absolutely not a problem. Yep...very happy with what my journey has led to. As long as i could remember i always used ernie ball. I recently bought a baritone 7 string from one of my homies on facebook, and he brought it over and he told me about these guys and he had a set of stringjoys on it. Then he gave me a couple sets to use with the guitar. I gotta say when i played it the feel of these strings just changed me? Theres a feel of real quality that just compliments the guitar. I cant explain it. I havent used a different set since.

This is 100% true. The quality that goes into manufacturing the strings makes an enormous amount of difference. When I'd first started using string joy i emailed Scott and asked him what they were doing that made their strings so so so much better than any other manufacturer. His answer was just "good quality control, good workers" and basically being tone chasing musicians themselves. In other words it wasn't a better material. I assumed it must be because every other string company puts so much stock into the materials being the determining factor in quality. Which can't be true if everyone is working with pretty much the same base materials lol. When I first started using them I was seriously stunned how much longer string joy strings kept their tone and integrity and I still am years later.

If you enjoy this video, Stringjoy has a lot of string-related video content here on KZbin. And of course, Dylan has a lot of other cool videos too! I've got sets of guitar and bass strings from Stringjoy, and they play and sound delish. Scott's discussion of balanced tension strings is well supported by my experience with their products. Plus, he's helped me dial in exactly what I need in my custom sets. While having a coated string may be nice, I've been waiting for their flatwound bass strings for years now. It's tough to get right, and I think it's worth waiting for a good string. I trust them to be able to deliver a great flatwound when they come out.

I really wish they would offer coated strings. I have spoke with him on this and maybe in the future. I still buy Stringjoy strings but honestly I mainly do it to support the incredible company and his passion. They are a collection of go to backups when my Elixir stash runs low. I do have one exception: I have two PRS Silver Sky guitars, a 2019 Rosewood fretboard and a 2020 maple fretboard. I use Stringjoy 10 -46 on the Rosewood fretboard Silver Sky.

.11-.15.-20.-32.-44.-56..... I string my Les pauls and my stratocasters with this gauge. After 30 some plus years of playing I have found that this is what suits my fingers best maybe one of my fingers with broken 20 years ago and is slightly weaker than the other. Maybe one finger is way stronger than the other. Either way this is what works for me and I get the sound that I want. I can play Stevie Ray Vaughan blues on this gauge, I can play Scott Pike "Sleep" riffs on this gauge(granted I tune everything down half a step)

I love stringjoy strings. Strings can be expensive here in Australia at times especially for extended range guitars so stringjoy really comes in handy for some of my guitars. One of my guitars is set up for some crazy tunings so it's nice that someone can help me get an 85 gauge for my 'low E' haha

Ive played with Elixer strings on my bass for like 20min, before I cut them off. It has been a while, and probably techniques improved a lot since, but to me it felt like my strings where wrapped in lubed condoms... it felt real nasty, just the touch of the coating. So no my thing ;)

I play Dr coated they don't feel like that thank God. I had a set of elixirs fail two days after putting them off big chunks peeling off which was frustrating. For a 40 dollar set of strings for a 4 string back then

I can only use coated strings. Because of my sweat, non-coated strings last literally one day of mild playing and then go dead and completely rusted, while elixirs last for months.Also no other brand of coated strings ever lasted more than a couple of weeks for me

I've been using D'Addario EJ16 on my acoustic guitars for ages. I think the quality is superb. I'd go lighter but the tone suffers. Not sure if I would change brands. Twenty years ago I tried some strings from a web based string seller which turned out bad.

I actually prefer the cobalt wound strings, they just give more output with less effort, so they last longer for me. I also prefer their sound profile better than nickel, they stay brighter longer cause nickel is a softer metal.

HI. I built a lap steel that needed longer strings, even if standard gauge. I looked far and wide and they are all pretty much the same length. Thought baritone would be longer, no. So my ball anchor to the G barely reaches the tuner. Do you do this? Also, is the longer string at pitch under higher or lower tension than the same string on say a strat? Thank you.

Back in the early '70s, had a problem if finding "G"s and "D"s for my White Falcon w/Bigsby that were long enough to wind on the tuning posts!😐 Glad today it's not an issue. 👍😎❤🖖

@@danielwalter7106 For some reason other than the trouble explained...string manufacturers started making their strings longer in the 80's? Not sure. But never had the problem after. Banjo strings were longer during this same period and were used as an alternative. For your application?

I´m thankful and I would like to send you a humble gift: several unused electric guitar strings from the sixties and 70´s ( Fender, Gibson, Teisco) to take a look at how they were made. I guess it´s not easy to find vintage strings, maybe I´m wrong and you have no interest at all. Two questions: first, how do you come up with such great ideas for your videos?… Second: exploring different string gauges, you technically/necessarily have to adjust your nut grooves width when you go up gauge… So, you can only explore with gauges downwards, otherwise, if you explore upwards, you are required to adjust your nut… Thoughts? Most fender nuts are preset for 9-42s and most Gibson are preset for 10-46s…

Very interesting. I’ll definitely try out some stringjoy. I heard a lot about what makes the string sound and feel good acoustically. I wonder if materials make a difference magnetically in the sound of electric strings. Is that a bit too dorky of a thing to wonder? Probably.

My favourite strings are made by Thomastik Infeld, and are of silk steel construction. Lower tension and soft under finger. I didn't notice any mention of silk steel in the String Joy video. It would have been nice to here some expert opinion on that option. BTW great video.

Cobalt strings absolutely make your strings have more output. I notice a brighter tone, and rich harmonics across the whole fretboard. Also the crud that builds up on strings falls off easier, landing on the fretboard. Strings stayed clean but when I had to clean my fretboard it was noticeably more dirty

I find that the ball end doesn’t matter if you use a Floyd (properly) and cut that thang off. I DO NOT get why people reverse thread their strings through the tuning pegs!!?? It looks tacky and it certainly can’t be good for the tuners

The string almost always breaks at the locking saddle on the floyd...so when it does, you just loosen the tuning peg and feed more string into the saddle...job done...you don’t have to put a new string on !!!

That's not what I got. A 46 feels thicker than a 36 but has less tension. And other companies who make 48 feel like 56 but don't have the tension of an actual 56 and string joy make the 48 with the higher tension to match a 36 but it doesn't feel thicker or bulkier than a 46.

We have two female employees right now (versus 10 male employees), they were just out of the office while this was shot (one was on vacation, the other working from home). Over the years we've hired 5 of the maybe 8 total female job applicants we've had versus about 20 of the 1,000+ men who have applied, so your odds of getting a job with us has historically been about 36x higher if you're a female-bodied person, FWTW.
