One thing about Warped, in the original's 100% ending after Cortex and Uka Uka are banished the portal becomes a black hole and starts growing into the initial boss room before we find ourselves at Crash's house. In the N Sane Trilogy however, the portal banishes them, sucks in a bit of the machine and then we cut straight to Crash's house, we don't see the black grow into the boss room. I don't like this change because the portal becoming a giant black hole was really cool and scary and showed how the time turner was destroyed entirely.

I feel the placement of Jaws of Darkness in Crash 1 was to emphasize that the final island was at one point just another island with ruins before Cortex showed up and built all his stuff on top of it. I feel the shift between the two different themes midway through the island really emphasizes how unnatural Cortex's facilities were and how he needed to be stopped. But yeah, while I feel in a lot of ways, 2 and 3 are objectively better games than 3, I'll always love that cohesiveness and simplicity the first game provided.

This video is awesome! I'm on a Crash kick right now and was playing this while i played the games. Sidenote: I'm actually a fan of Snoman's channel but some his takes are...wild to say the least. The Crash one in particular is rough because he seems REAL salty. It blows my mind that he's a DKC fan considering Crash is essentially designed almost as a DKC game in 3D. Especially after my whole friend group has played the game and those who don't like it say themselves the game is just hard and they don't feel up for the challenge but they don't blame the game for that. I just beat it with a buddy who admits he's not great at platformers but loved being able to overcome it's toughness because he loved the feeling of getting better. Long comment I know but I too have a lot of passion for the design of the Crash series and will always come to it's defense like you do here. Great stuff!

I think Snoman was criticizing the hit box issue in the Nsane Trilogy remake (before it was eventually fixed) because that's the only footage I see of him in this video. Snoman probably didn't grow up playing the original ps1 games when this wasn't a problem. So, he assumed the games were broken. I grew up playing the original games and brought the Nsane trilogy when it was still new. And the Nsane trilogy did have a terrible hit box issue that made the game feel broken. Simple jumps were hard to pull off. You had to press the X button and forward with all your might at every jump. Later it was fixed. So if you own the game now, you won't have this issue

Well it's been some time, but I finally finished the video. Like with your other videos, your passion for the topics you discuss are very apparent and I like how you give a detailed analysis of the games without being padded. I also like how you've used your format for game reviewing. It has a nice mix of analysis as well as documentary with a nice dash of critic response. Most reviews that have these different aspects tend to segment them or the structure tends to be disjointed, but this video honestly was a smooth watch throughout. That alone is something to be proud of. I do remember first playing Crash on the GBA and never getting far and then playing, I think Twinsanity on Xbox. Other than that, Crash has been a series I heard about, but didn't give much thought to. I did later pick up a copy of 2, but never got far. Later I got one and three, but my experience was the same. Truth be told, I also found the games to feel somewhat stiff, probably my brain's reaction to 3D movement with a D-pad, and I mostly had written them off as overrated games. That said, watching your review has made me want to go back and give them another shot. Maybe this time will be better.

Hey man, really good job. I'm not crazy about the remastered trilogy but I completely understand why fans love it. Nevertheless it was refreshing to hear a fan of the series who doesn't just suck up to the remaster as if it could do no wrong. Real quick, I have a theory about the location of the time twister. So in the events of Crash 2 it's pretty obvious that N. Brio is using the remains of Castle Cortex as a base of operations for the laser beam we see in the 100% ending (and if you noticed the location of the secret 6th warp room as a nice little easter egg). While we don't know where he is in the third installment, we do know that Cortex owned the three islands since the first game. It would make sense that Cortex would return to his islands after his space station is destroyed. This is why I believe that the time twister is located high up in the Castle Cortex, most likely built on the 6th warp room from Crash 2. Granted you can't see the other two islands in the background, but this would have been unnecessary in the design since they would be obstructed by the warp zones. The structure itself has the same brickwork as the castle and underneath contains a lab where the assistants we've seen since first game are manufactured. This brings me to my last point, there are multiple facets to the time twister itself. Not just in the warp room, but also in Cortex's boss battle arena and the cutscenes right after he is defeated. Did you notice anything about the arena? It has the exact same temple ruin aesthetic intertwined with Cortex's machinery from the first two games. If my speculation is correct, this is the only level in the game to not involve time travel and takes place in the original setting of the series. I know it's generally accepted that Cortex's castle was destroyed in the first game, but there's too many clues that it survived. Take the ancient ruins levels from Crash 2 where you can still see the castle standing in the background. Plus the fact that we know Cortex built his castle around the ancient ruins, it just makes sense that he would return here. I also believe that Citadel City from CTR is located in the upper level of the castle, but that's another story.

Just wanted to chime in and say the game you were talking about at 44:20 is called "The End is Nigh", not "The End is Night" (speaking of the t at the and). Apart from that, I agree with you on nearly all of the points you mentioned about Snoman's video. The point that depth perception is pretty bad times, I do agree with that. But there actually is a shadow beneath Crash when he jumps, so I don't get why people keep saying there's like no help at all to tell how far your jump goes.
@Gamelover2549 ай бұрын
One big detail missed in the N.Sane Trilogy that wasn’t mentioned here is the secret warp room in Crash 2. It’s meant to be Cortex’s destroyed castle from Crash 1, as you can see the islands from the first game in the background. However they completely omitted the other islands in the remake, so it just then becomes a random warp room in the middle of nowhere. It’s a shame because it takes away the feeling of Crash 2 being a sequel to Crash 1. Seeing the old islands and Cortex’s destroyed castle really made it feel like we made a difference in our first adventure, but that display is lost here unfortunately. Minor nitpick but that always bothered me.

Great video as always! So I have a bit of an interesting story with crash. I never grew up with a ps1, and was almost exclusively a Nintendo kid. I got a ps2 later in my preteens and got crash nitro kart, Twi sanity and tag team racing, loving all three and thinking that was a new Sony ip. Fast forward to my adult life and the release of the N. Sane Trilogy. I was so excited because I thought one of them was twinsanity. Needless to say, when I got home and bought it, I was very shocked to not only not get the game I expected, but also that I got three remastered platformers that kicked my Mario playing ass across the room. It was an interesting month.

Oh Dylan you forgot about the cheese in warped! It's in the N. Same trilogy. In the Tiny Tiger fight in warped, you could hug the top left corner when the lions charged in the original and avoid the lions damaging you. In the N. Sane Trilogy, you can still do it, but the crowd throws cheese at you. I loved that little easter egg!
@inkyno1 Жыл бұрын
I'm aware I'm a bit late to the video, but while they are perfectly fine in og Crash 1, the bridge levels in the N. Sane trilogy are genuinely harder due to the physics change. Some of those turtle jumps *are* actually very crappy as, as the other guy said, you do have to be very finicky when you jump on them. If you jump on them too far back you still might not make the jump. And I tell you what getting the platinum relic on that level is complete ass lmao
@sebastiankulche Жыл бұрын
Are we going to ignore the fact that all of the levels in Warped show you how Cortex dominated the whole world thanks to the lab assistants, the images or statues of him or other easter eggs like the ones in the pyramid levels or Fake Crash (after beating 105%)? And then discover the secret warp room with that factory of lab assistants being mass produced. That's some serious attention to detail for 1998. Everyone already knows that, sure, but I feel like it doesn't get the credit it really deserves.

1:54:31 I’m impressed by how well this description matches the first trilogy of Touhou games on Windows. EOSD is the first title with basic features that is good but has some clear flaws. PCB fixes everything that was wrong and improves everything else to the point of being the most polished game. Then IN goes the extra mile and adds a ton of amazing unique mechanics, but also can be argued it went too far and complex with that.

If you still keep dying the game will turn normal crates into checkpoint crates in order to allow you to keep going. If this guy had the patience to keep going he'd know this! The N sane Trilogy tries its absolute best to be as player friendly as possible by adding these things and this guy is STILL complaining oh my,,,, anyways great video so far, love how you talk about Crash, I almost cried at the part when you compared it to Dark Souls because that feeling in video games as a child,,, you captured that nostalgia perfectly 💜

Great video overall but I do have some feedback that I'd like to offer. Now, I'm not a content creator myself, just a man with an opinion so feel free to take this all with a huge grain of salt. With that said, I think this whole video would be MUCH stronger if you exluded the nearly ten minute point by point takedown of another content creator's work. Let me be perfectly clear, I 100% agree with every point you made for the same reasons that you do, that's not my issue. My issue is that the whole rant is entirely unnecessary and comes off as a bit immature and Redditorish for lack of a better word. For younger and less mature viewers of your channel, I'm sure they'll get a kick out of it. I, for one, would have really enjoyed listening to such a defense years ago when I still didn't know how to process my feelings when someone had a different opinion than me on something I hold dear, especially if I felt that opinion was unfounded. That said, now that I'm a bit older I recognize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it's really worth no one's time and energy to be so combative over something as trivial as how another person feels about a video game of all things. For the majority of your audience, myself included, we have never even seen the video in question and didn't click onto this one to hear someone tear into a video we have no strong feelings on. If I wanted counter argument content of another specific work, I'd click onto a video that indicates as much. To us that just came to see what another content creator has to say about some games we're familiar with, it feels reductive and exhausting when you abruptly interrupt your entertaining and well scripted analysis to awkwardly transition into a section crapping on another creator's work from years ago. What's frustrating is that you yourself seem to be self aware enough to on some level understand this as well, as you preface your rant with "not to tear into a four year old video" and "not to be mean" which has the same energy as someone prefacing an offensive comment with "no offense but" as if the preface negates the following sentiment. My issue with the rant is that it isn't constructive and adds nothing to your video or the general Crash discourse at large. It would be one thing if the video in question was huge and influential enough to massively impact public perception of Crash to the point where it actively harms the IP but as it stands, we got an exceptional Crash 4 after his video and public perception of Crash is still overwhelming positive so what are you trying to prove here? If anything, it comes of as a self indulgent move of you seeing his video, it getting under your skin, and you deciding to use your platform to air out your grievances even if that wasn't the intent. If you felt the need to address his arguments in your video, you could have easily gotten the same effect by keeping it general instead of calling out one specific creator and taking a paragraph rather than 10 minutes because it really feels like you start to spin your wheels about a couple minutes into the rant. To your credit, immediately following the rant, you get right back into the very high quality critique and commentary that makes up the majority of your video but that does make the more poorly expressed rant stick out like a sore thumb in comparison. It feels like a lower quality and less experienced video essay creator plopped something in the middle of an otherwise much better work. I know this probably comes of as very harsh and overly anal, I'm sorry I don't mean for it to, it's just that in my mind it's such an obviously glaring flaw in an otherwise great video that I figured I'd voice my thoughts on it. Again, just one man's opinion, but in scrolling through the other comments, I can tell I'm not the only one that felt that way.

The fact he says that dangerous enemies need to be made more obvious when they have fucking swords, glowing yellow forcefields, flames, spikes, and electricity... like does he not realize that it's actually BAD game design to handhold players through everything instead of just figuring shit out with common sense? How the fuck could they make it more obvious without putting literal text above them saying "THIS ENEMY IS DANGEROUS!" I just don't think that dude is built for games like Crash lol, as dumb as that sounds. He seems like the kind of guy that only wants to play games where you can play on autopilot and still beat it.

Classic series of games and great video analysis. I only ever got the crystals never got the gems then like 15 years later I decided I wanted to get the good ending on crash 2. It took me ever and I have to say it was one of the biggest letdown in gaming. The good ending was like 10 seconds

With your description of the similarities between sonic and crash they actually kinda sound like the same thing mega man goes through, evil doctor, robot animals.

Ok so I just had this thought... Is N Gin Dexter from Dexter's Lab all grown up? No need to answer this is now canon.

I think I'm gonna reinstall N-Sane Trilogy. I never played 1 because I assumed saving was still gated, bonuses were non-repeatable, and that the fucking bridge still had lackluster visibility for your shadow at times... But seeing the review and gameplay in action, they touched on basically every issue I saw in crash 1 without utterly breaking the game's difficulty... Although in fairness, I always assumed the bonuses were needed for the gem on PS1 lol.

you want challenge? try playing UnderRail, it's not only challenging but the dialogue is either fun or interesting.

Growing up Crash 2 was easily my favourite, however after going back and platinuming all three games from the N.Sane trilogy, my favourite now is Crash 1. I just personally think that game has the best pure platforming levels out of the three
