The game itself are not really complicated. The setup is the complicated thing. Maybe about 50% of the games is from the setup. 25% from dice and 25% from deals (many predesignated from setup) and simple execution. Best game in the world with 4 players. For the Semis match i think i would have taken 6 4 10 brick sheep ore. Reasoning is you get the best brick on a high wood board, plus good sheep on a low sheep board. It can pair well with 9 3 10, ore wood wheat (all 5 resources plus coordinated ore and wheat), or a wheat-wood coast placement

3:32 red was trying to push orange to go left with his road, because he had no intention to build towards 2:1 Wood port. Instead red wanted the 2:1 Ore port at 6 and 9 up North. Yes its 3 roads away from Red's village, but if Orange is going left, then he is committed, therefore Red can make it in time. Good job on Orange for not falling for the mind games. Massive props for purposely going to a hard region to get some really good OTB games. I love playing online, but the social deals and metagaming are my favorite part and you really only get that OTB and only with good players because casual/newer players get really offended for some reason when you start making convoluted negotiations. The placements for the final board were not what I predicted and I'm honestly kinda surprised you went for the 3:1 wheat, but it paid off with that deal haha. I don't watch all of your videos so idk if you've mentioned this, but year of plenty and road builders should always be played early. The problem is that you can always assume (in high level play) that if a player has dev cards and is getting robbed that their facedown cards are always mono and vp because you'd use knights before rolls to mitigate robbers and use plenty and road when you get them. Essentially a monopoly is worth at least 1 vp the longer a game goes, so a facedown card is always a vp. I agree that you would've been robbed less if you just played rb earlier, and it would have also taken blue longer to get longest road. Great games overall though and thanks for the great editing. The official Catan recordings are always so garbage so it's hard to watch high quality games with high quality video

Amazing video, good quality production. I'm not an expert at all but for your mental fortitude, it might be good to play with some friends and tell them to target you every round. You're a good player and your calculative ability is on display, which will intimidate other people. This is a facet that is highly annoying as you try to play anticipating logical decision-making. Being able to stay cool in those moments and not let the pressure and importance of the match will be very helpful, to your decision-making. As with anything in life that requires practice if you treat every interaction with it like it's a tournament, you'll approach a tournament with utter confidence. It may even be good to learn how to placate others a little. They targeted you for your cards, personally, I'd have shown them your dev cards immediately, ease their nerves make them think you're not a threat. Let them find another target to fixate on.
@NFOGhost3 жыл бұрын
I agree with the proposal. What surprises me is that you did not secure longest road once blue hit 7 points. Your judgment might have been clouded by being annoyed with the gang robbing. Catan involves a lot of tunnel vision and the table might also have been a victim of that. Blue had 4 roads since the very beginning of the game.
@MaxTheJedi3 жыл бұрын
Not sure why this popped up in my recommended but it was actually a very professional video. Good work.
@Mousepotato83 жыл бұрын
In my experience it seems like I lose much more often because I failed to take longest road when I could have, compared to games when I took longest road and then got gang-robbed. There's a simple reason for this that's often overlooked--by taking longest road you not only get 2 points, you also deny those 2 points to your opponents, which makes it much harder for them to win. Don't beat yourself up though--you played great! Probably much better than I would have if I were playing in this tournament. I also really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos.

Curious why you thought pointing to the desert was a waste? Ultimately the 5-11 spot with 6 total points of production and more ore is a pretty nice spot? Also gives you a little wood which you lack. I would have done the same. Too big of risk with red's strong road building to lose to that open spot.

I was surprised in the last game you chose to place first in stead of second, and that you made the elaborate deal with orange. I would have taken the strong orange spot you negotiatedk out of, as you cant trust the deal to be binding, however was a good game great video dude

Is there merit to picking 2nd in the semi-final game? If first goes on 6/9/3(your choice), you can take 6/4/10, pointing your road to the ore port or 10/4. 3rd/4th players would likely pick the same spots. Leaving you with what Orange's setup, on 3/9/10, but stronger because you have sheep to start, and the coordinated 10s.

Yep, I regret picking 1st pick. I was under a 2 minute timer and got stuck under time pressure. I think I would choose 2nd or 3rd position here in the future.

@@DyLightedCatan Reasonable mistake, 2 minutes is tough. Very cool tournament format though! Thanks for the video and the reply.

Just happened across this video without ever seeing your content before. Wanted to say well done! The explanations are great and the visuals are even better. You earned a sub from me!

You underestimated how motivated the players were to stop you. Tried to make a play so you wouldn't be as heavy of a target, but they kept targeting you.
