[TAS] Wii Sports Boxing: Beat The Champion Speedrun in

"Beat The Champion" (Otherwise known as "From Zero to Champion") is a speedrunning category in Wii Sports that gives the simple goal of, well, beating the champion in a specific sport starting from the beginning of the game. In the case of Wii Boxing, you are tasked with defeating a series of opponents before you face off against Champion Matt.
While using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to fight your opponents, you can use several different types of punches (Straight jabs, hooks, and uppercuts) to attack. Hitting a fighter's head area does more damage than hitting his/her body, but this can be blocked by the fighter's boxing gloves.
In this TAS, I abuse what's considered as valid input by the controls to perform hook attacks (Which are normally intended to hit the opponents body) that hit the opponent's head area. Combined with pinpoint accuracy and good rhythym, I can knock an opponent out less than four real-time seconds (~10-11 In-Game seconds) into the round, with every opponent except for one not getting up before the bell rings.
As for improvements, the aforementioned opponent getting up for another fight would be one that would save over 7 seconds. I only tried two different scenarios and simply assumed that she would always get up, but something tells me that it isn't the case if even Champion Matt is able to stay down. All of the fights themselves could be optimized a bit more, but struggles with mapping controls properly and emulator difficulties made completing this much more of a chore than it should have been.
Timing starts when the "OK!" appears in the "Starting The Game" popup, and ends when the bell rings for the knockout of Matt. The timer used in the video has frames per second as the last timing place instead of hundredths of a second; 42 frames (In 60FPS) is equal to 70 hundredths of a second, so that's why the time in the title is different from the video.

Notice how Guest B stops shaking right as he faces off against Matt; he has reached his final opponent, and the spastic entity controlling him had finally left. After all of the time he had fought his opponents by proxy to the entity's commands, he had also learned how to fight like no other. As a gesture of thanks, he allowed Matt to make contact with him once. With the blocking of Matt's punch with his glove now done, he pummled the final fighter to the ground. His 17 minute bizarre adventure of going from nowhere to being the very best like no one ever was had finally ended.

As Matt approached the ring, he reflected back on what he considered to be quite a successful life. Matt was universally loved, and feared. He had not once tasted defeat. Defeat -- he wondered what it tasted like. Well, he would find out soon. Despite even his status as a god figure, Matt knew better than anyone that he was only human. Although he had never seen anything like what he now saw in that ring, something inside him knew it was time to accept his fate. Though every single fighter in the world had seen defeat and chosen to continue, it just wouldn't be the same for Matt. But more importantly, he was getting old. He took a deep breath. Was it over for him? No. No, he decided not. It might be over for his fans, but not for him. Even for someone who had won every medal, every trophy on the planet, there were things yet to do. Maybe he would try a new food. Maybe he would pick up a hobby. Maybe he would watch a sunset, or two, or maybe more. Maybe he would fall in love. And maybe, when he was done, he would put his feet up and go to sleep. But first, he had a match to finish. Matt took the last steps to the ring. Time slowed to a crawl, and all Matt's past victories seemed to shrink into nothing. Finally, he stood face to face with his opponent. And in that moment, Matt understood. He realized with brutal disillusionment exactly how Guest B could so easily crush so many strong human beings under his unrelenting iron fists. Yes, Guest B had achieved godhood. And in doing so, he had sacrificed his own humanity. Although Matt had sometimes worried that he had forgotten himself in the endless quest for victory, any doubts about himself that he had disappeared when he looked into the cold, dead eyes of this thing that called itself Guest B. That was when Matt realized what he had to do. He would not stand to see Guest B destroy the beauty of this sport. Even if he couldn't win the match, he would find a way to win the fight. "Round one!" Time's up, Matt. Think of something. You will not be just another check on his list. "Fight!" Matt took one more breath, and lunged forward. He would not be like the others, he would not let this thing silence him before he could at least put up a fight. *Smack* That familiar sound of a punch colliding. Matt looked up, astonished. For just an instant, he saw a flash of anger in Guest B's icy eyes. A slight pulse of blood through his pale face. In that moment, he knew he had done what he had come to do. Let this thing beat down a billion more men, but no one could forget this moment, when even divine power failed in the face of humanity and honor. The rest of the match was nothing now. The barrage of punches, each like to being hit by a truck; the sensation of hitting the ground, too weak to stand. It was all a blur. In Matt's final moments of consciousness before he blacked out, he had a single thought. This was the end of one part of his life and the beginning of another. He looked forward to trying a new food, or picking up a hobby, or watching a sunset, or falling in love. For the first time, Matt understood what it meant to lose. But for the first time, he also learned what it meant to truly win. "1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10..." Matt's final thought was this: Good game. "...Knockout!"

For those confused why Anna was the only one to get up look at 10:06. After B hit Anna directly on her head, the shockwaves which usually would have atomized a normal person brain pushed Anna's brain downward right onto her pituitary gland. By doing this, it send hormones rushing throughout her body, and radically changed her desposition. Her burning hatred and competitive spirt towards B turned in an instant into pure unbridled primal lust for him. Despite not being able to stand, the hormone boost overrided the pain. She was set on one thing, beating B, ending the charade and claiming him right in the middle of the ring for all to see. Of course this failed.

Born in the slums of Miitopia, B grew up a very ambitious boy despite his terrible socioeconomic status. When he and his mother were coming back from begging for food, B would always watch the TVs from inside the stores and there he would see Matt. Matt was everything B ever could've wanted to be. Power, Fame, Being adored by all. So B took this and used this as a goal to be as good, or even better than Matt ever was. As he went to boxing lessons, Matt popped in one day and saw B and his classmates training. B did the best he could to impress Matt but Matt didn't even give him the attention he wanted. Overhearing Matt talk bad about the class and especially bad about him, B's worship for Matt quickly turned to hate. His goal to be better changed to destroying Matt and making him less upstuck. Every match in the video was him, beating the ever shit out of these people, despite his nervousness, just to get to Matt. The match before fighting the champion, B found our form his mother that Matt was his father. Confusion quickly befall B. He would have to beat the man missing in his life own in public TV. One side of him was glad to get back for the class shittalk and him missing everyday of his life. But B couldn't do that to his own father. As B entered the ring to face off against the champion, B lost all of his nervousness. He did have hatred for him anymore but rather he had to urge to beat his head in to take his father home. They fought but B quickly took the battle. "I won. *Father.*" he said with a bit off bitterness in his mouth. "B... I'm so sorry for abandon long you." Matt responded. Tears fell from his eyes as he picked his father up and said "Please come home..." Matt silently nodded and they both left the ring. This was the story of B. The man who rose from the slums, to fame, claimed his rightful throne of "King of the Ring" and gained his father's love.

To me, video games were more than a hobby so I collected all of my Nintendo consoles and still have them, from the NES to the Switch, I could never let go of them. Lucky for you, the Wii sold exponentially well, so the chances of finding a cheap console 30-50$$ on Craigslist is high. I wish I could have been a kid when the Wii came out, it looked like a lot of fun, and a great way to spend summer vacation.
