Should be able to drag peg on a fully loaded touring bike. Most people dont seek training and cant ride the bike they own to the best of their abilities. Take a class every year! It is fun!

Everything you just said, my friend is the reason I’ve got my FLHRXS two years ago. Best of both worlds. Touring frame, completely stripped out of unnecessary stuff and because of that much lighter and quicker. After some mods, feels real good to me. 🙂 Stay low, my friend! 👊🏻

I have a 2001 dyna fxd 88 live in washington state.. wife and I took on the adventure of ride to Vegas going through Idaho and Utah made the loop to Cali then Oregon... I must say it was the best adventure.

Rode my FXLRS from Seattle to San Francisco last summer. I’m 6’2 and had no real issue with it. The bung king crash bar and biltwell xfill-80 made stretching out and being comfortable very easy.

I can relate to what you're saying BK. After decades of long distance riding on my Harleys, my 02 ZZR 1200, and now rocking the Pan America on my thousand mile loops to see Ms Wolf, I'd say reliability is the main ingredient for successful rides. Luggage design and weight distribution would be my second factor for a good ride. Keep the weight low. That is a bit harder on the Pan America because it sits higher than my Ultra Classic. If I pack all my luggage on top of the rear luggage rack it affects the bikes handling. Without the side panniers (saddle bags for us Harley riders) until 2022 for the Pan Am, I've tried the Giant Loop Great Basin which is a horseshoe style bag. The Great Basin allows me to pack the weight lower in the bottoms of the horseshoe shape that hang over the side of the bike. Problem with the horseshoe is that it takes some time to put it on and take it off the bike. I ordered the Mosko Moto Reckless 80 system which will be here in March/April of 2022. My Ultra Classic, just load the side cases and top box and off I go. One of these days I'll install a legends suspension and change out my handlebars and dial the Ultra in.

Once i went floor boards and heal shifter i doubt i'm going back. I'm touring with a 26 inch wheel and 13 inch rear shocks no tour pack. 13 Streetglide with lowers and a 8.5 inch Klockwerks shield. Pretty sporty ride for a bagger. Big wheel handles great it's just slower but you can carve twisties like nothing. I'm a former Sportbike rider so it feels silly but at the same time for touring it's been pretty dope and a lot of fun.

I had a 2021 FLHX and now am on a 2014 FXDL so I loved this video. I found that I prefer a modular setup with detachable windshield, comms/music in helmet, and leather pros or sissy bar bag. Only thing I miss is cruise control, as I couldn't justify an FXDLS at the prices they command these days. Baggers are too heavy, floorboards sucked, and the tech really wasn't worth it since it is already outdated even in 2021 and I couldn't hear the speakers on the highway at full volume in my full face. I also hardly ever used both bags and they are way too costly to protect or replace if you go down. Just my unneeded $.02

Bagger may have a different and "bigger frame" but if you look at the specifications, the Dyna wheelbase is actually longer than a Road Glide and the bikes are the same length (2020 Road King as an exapmple and 2003 FXDL). They are significantly narrower and lighter as well. But many people thing they are small and that is not the case

This is a constant battle in my life, the perfect all around do everything above average motorcycle. And I've owned them all, most people will explode blood vessels in their eyeballs when I exclaim that short of high speed long distance touring, the evolution powered 5-speed Sportsters are the perfect platforms, cheap, tons of aftermarket, fast, thin, great handling and just as good on gravel (and off road) as KLRz, but anything more than about ten hours in the wind and your hips, butt and brain are going to hate you. Yes a FXR or Dyna are more convertible in these situations, but a modern (newer than 82ish) touring platform is going to make high speed long distance touring fun and easy...AND one learns how to weave those garbage barges thru the thin canyons of insulated and indoctrinated vessels of aluminum and steel. It wasn't even an easy switch for me, I fought it for years, reminding myself that Peter Egan toured on small displacement Hondas in the 70's and 80's, that I could adapt the wrong tool for the right job, sure one can strap couple 100 pounds of cracked corn on a Triumph Bonneville and I could put a guitar strap on my full size lunch box full of 12 hours of steel mill meals and tools and carry it pony express style on a supermotarded Sportster...and yeah Pelican 1340's look bad ass on Dynas, but they look better without them more...but multiple experiences of truck stop self-chiropractory, yoga and witnessing my Bagger bros laugh at me while sipping fresh coffee from their floating cup holders while listening to their favorite bands they've been listening to for decades converted me to the dark side minus the CDB greatest hits. So now there's the Road King, fat and Heavy and easily modified for high speed long distance, factory hard bags that will hold gym bags, welding leads and a weeks worth of Ramen, ...a huge aftermarket, Twin Cams, six speeds, floorboards and the Bagger Racing League and you know how that rots ones judgement. It's not Sportster, it's not even the Clydesdale version of a Dyna, it sucks in the mud, takes a professional in the gravel and the Ultra Classic guys look at it with disdain but I one can do almost all things in a superior way with it...or maybe I'm biased... Not that the mental gymnastics of owning the perfect motorcycle debate ever stops reloading...

It’s like I always told my dad dynas fxr’s’s and the new softails are way cooler than those old fart touring couches. My pops have been trying to get me on a touring bike for years but I absolutely refuse. Plus it’s like you said thes sportier Harleys are able to transform into a touring bike.
