Kris doesn't have the greatest singing voice, but when he does sing it stays with you, touches you! And he is one of the most prolific song writers around, having written songs for so many other artists. He is on par with Dolly Parton in the song writing department. "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and this one are my favorite Kris songs. He's also a 'natural' in the movies he stars in.

When I was 23 I was thrilled to see Rita Coolidge perform at Knott’s Berry Farm in California.. I remember that she mentioned she had just been asked to do the theme song for the then, latest James Bond movie- “Octopussy” and the song was “All Time High”. She told the audience that she was just so incredibly busy at the time she was asked, “but when James Bond asks a favor of you, what else could I do.. I said, ‘Yes!’“😄 She gave such an amazing show.

This was a shortened version of the song as it was nearly cut in half. You should listen to the whole song when you have time. Johnny Cash's live version on his television show was the official release and it was the first time he ever sang it publically after Kris landed a helicopter in his yard to bring the song to him. Some network producers told Johnny that he needed to change the lyric of "wishing lord that I was stoned" to "wishing Lord that I was home". Kris was at the show up in the balcony and when Johnny got to that line he looked up at Kris and sang the original lyrics the way Kris wrote them.

Kris Kristofferson was a former United States Army Rangers captain. He graduated Airborne School, Ranger School, and flight school, served in Germany, and volunteered for Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, but instead was offered a professor of English Literature position at USMA West Point. Disappointed that he was not allowed to fight in Vietnam, he resigned his position in 1965.

Kris Kristofferson was in the 70s movie Convoy which I remember fondly from my childhood. He also starred in the original version of the movie "A Star is Born" with Barbra Streisand. I feel his greatest talent lines in his songwriting. He wrote "For the Good Times" which is my favorite song recorded by the legendary Al Green. He wrote Me and Bobby McGee" recorded by Janice Joplin. Plus, he wrote one of the best Christian songs ever written, "Why Me." I love Jason Crabb's version of that beautiful song.

The Highwaymen. Four country icons. You've been introduced to Kris. Johnny & Waylon were roommates in the early days. Willie & Waylon were almost solely responsible for the advent of "Outlaw" country music that swept through country music in the '70s/'80s. People who got to see those 4 on stage together were truly lucky.

I also love his 'Lovin' her was easier than anything I've ever done'. He has starred in several movies but the one that sticks most in my mind is 'A Star is Born' with Barbra Streisand. This song always tugs at my heart for some reason. Kris was in several movies. Kris was also more of a writer than a singer, he really never intended to sing, but like Willie, to sell his songs he took to singing them himself. He was basically country music answer to Bob Dylan. His songs have been recorded by Janis Joplin, Willie Nelson, Gladys Knight, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price, the list goes on and on.

Yes! Kris!!!!! Loving Her Was Easier is a must. There’s a live performance on YT by Willie Nelson with Kris and the other Highwaymen that is amazing (I’m still partial to Kris’ original for it.). I agree with another comment about Me and Bobby Magee. It’s a 70’s American classic and only gets better with age. You should listen to Kris’ as well as Janis Joplin’s. Craig you’re my hero! Keep ‘em coming! IMO Kris’s original recording of Sunday Morning Coming Down is also still my favorite. And FYI, Kris was a former helicopter pilot and Rhodes Scholar and what an amazing song writer. Kris is most famous for his songwriting, although he has some very great songs that he has sang and performed with others great artists. But I personally have known him more so thru-out his career as an actor. He has stared and co-stared in loads of movies. I'll suggest a few that you may want to check out. "A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand (1976)" and "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid along with James Coburn and Jason Robards (1973) and Fun fact: Bob Dylan wrote the soundtrack for this movie and also played a part in it. He was Alias, Billy the Kids Knife-throwing buddy. and "Outlaw Justice along with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Trvis Tritt (1999)" and "Hickok along with Luke Hemsworth, Bruce Dern and Cameron Richardson (2017)" and finally "Lonestar along with Matthew McConaughey, Chris Cooper, Frances McDormand, and Elizabeth Pena (1996)" just to name a few~😉😂 he and Johnny Cash were longtime friends and Kris Kristofferson wrote this song as a Tribute "Johnny Cash Tribute - A Moment of Forever (Hank Williams Jr, Kris Kristofferson...ect)"

Love Kris Kristofferson. Awesome songwriter and singer. Love Why Me. There's a video where he tells the story of writing it before singing it. Search for "Why Me Lord Story Kris Kristofferson". He has a very interesting life story. He got a degree from Oxford, and then he was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. I do prefer Kris' version of this song, Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down, over Johnny's though. On the album version, you can hear the feeling in his voice. They also don't sing the whole song in this live version. (I'm no particular order) Me and Bobby McGee (made famous by Janis Joplin) For the Good Times Loving Her Was Easier Why Me, often called Why Me Lord Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down Help Me Make it Through the Night Highwayman (With Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson)

A Star is Born was one movie with Barbara Streisand. Convoy is another movie Kris starred in with Ali MacGraw. The song he delivered to Johnny Cash's yard by helicopter was "Sunday Morning Coming Down". Read up on Kris and marvel at his Life Mr Taylor. He did study Hank Williams and his song writing technics. He says so much with so few words. A lot like Hank, and Bob Dylan another fan of Mr Williams. Listen to Hank, Hank Jr and Hank III & 4. You'll have an idea why "Family Tradition" was written by Bocephus! Read the notes you have below and listen to the "Silver Tongued Devil" album. Listen to the first album too. Not a bad cut on either of them and all charming stories. Your a lucky man to be finding this music. Kris has tons of great fans, notice some below. There is a reason for it! Amelas One

I have seen a couple comments that Kris graduated West Point, he didn't. He graduated from a number of colleges. Two in California and Oxford where he became a Rhodes Scholar. After which he joined the military as a Helicopter pilot. After a tour overseas, was offered a teaching position in West Point as a history teacher (I believe) and turned it down to move to Nashville and chase a music career. He is one of the most famous of song writers, not only in country music. Part of the super group, The Highway Men (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris) they were all very good friends. Other accomplishments are, a college football player, a gold gloves boxer and of course an award winning actor. If you want to name anyone a renaissance man, it's Kris Kristopherson. As many have said, this wasn't the greatest introduction to this song as it was chopped up. I would suggest you find one of John's versions to hear the whole thing. But don't give up on Kris, he is truly a remarkable man.

Kris graduated from West Point, the U.S. Military Academy and became a helicopter pilot. He tried to break into the country music business without success and then he took a helicopter and landed on the lawn at Johnny Cash's house. They became friends and he became a star. I saw him in person in a small club in Greenwich Village in New York before he became famous and he was absolutely captivating as a performer. He has this deep voice that just filled the room. I saw him again a few years ago and he has become a forgetful old man. But he was a vibrant figure when he was young.

I love this song but in this live version they omitted one verse to make it fit into the time they had allocated for it, and I feel like this is a bit of a gyp. You need to go back and listen to the entire song! Kris was in the movie Stagecoach which was a remake of an old John Wayne movie. In the movie in which Kris had a role, country legends Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Jessi Colter (Waylon's wife at the time), all had roles also. Kris also starred in A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand. While he did some acting and he did some singing, Kris is best known for his songwriting ability. He was an incredible wordsmith and you could actually SEE what he was writing about. I think my favorite song written by Kris (and again sung by his good friend, Johnny Cash) was "Here Comes That Rainbow Again." Funny you should mention that he is "brilliant". He was an extremely intelligent man and in fact was a Rhodes Scholar. Because he was so intelligent, his family thought he was wasted messing around with country music. Even after he made a HUGE name for himself, I'm not sure his family was ever really happy with his career as a singer/songwriter. I live in Nashville and back when Kris was attempting to break into country music, word on the street was that he couldn't get anyone to listen to his songs, so he came up with a brilliant way to get his music listened to by Johnny Cash. Cash lived in Hendersonville which is a little town about 30 miles from Nashville. Kris rented a helicopter and had the helicopter fly him out to Hendersonville and sit down on Cash's lawn where he proceeded to get out with a tape of his songs that he asked Cash to listen to. Cash did and the rest is history!

Oh.....my.....God. I just realized for the first time in my life. Kris Kristofferson played Whistler in the Blade franchise! Im so stupid. My mom is funny about this guy. She loves his acting. She hates his singing. But she adores his songwriting skills and apparently he has written quite a few hit country songs For other artists.

I know I kinda went off last night on the subject of the "She Thinks My Tractors Sexy" song, which sets me off every time I hear it, or hear OF it, but THIS song, "Sunday Morning Coming Down", is a reasonably good example of how DIFFERENT real country is from fake country! I hope you can tell the difference. It's not subtle to those of us who love country music. Btw, although this was a good live duet, the best version is the studio one by Johnny. These two singers, although they like and respect each other, have very different styles. Although, they, along with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, were awesome in the 1st Highwayman album. And another thing you should know, The Highwaymen, was a separate quartet, gospel I think, that preceded them. However, due to the popularity of the Highwayman song, everyone started calling this quartet of stars "The Highwaymen", so the rights to use the name was worked out legally behind the scenes with the REAL Highwaymen Quartet. I was aware of the gospel group as a teenager (The Highwayman song came out when I was 18), and I knew there would be a legal problem. But fortunately it was worked out for the good of all concerned.

If you listen to each to them doing it alone, you will see that this is 'Johnny's version' & Kris's is much slower. Both are cool but I actually like Kris's best & love that he is still with us at 84. God bless him.
