Kritstofferson's biography is almost unbelievable. He was a college (rugby, boxing and track) athlete and a Rhodes Scholar who went to Oxford. Then he joined the Army and rose to the rank of Captain, qualifying as Ranger and a helicopter pilot, eventually teaching English literature at West Point. Then he gave up his Army career (against the wishes of his family) to move to Nashville to be a songwriter, starting as a janitor in a recording studio and writing songs. Eventually he hit it big as a songwriter and singer, but also as an actor, starring in many movies in the 70s and beyond.

Kris Kristoffer has written many hits for many artists. After a military career, while sweeping the floors at Columbia Records studios, Kris gave a tape of this song to June Carter to give to Johnny Cash. It sat in a pile of other hopeful artists tapes for a month. Being impatient, Kris landed a helicopter in Johnny Cash's front yard to finally get his tape heard. Johnny released it soon after. Also appearing in movies, Kris was talented indeed. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada. ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇨🇦

I’ve always been a huge fan of him, and he wrote my favorite song that Johnny Cash ever sang (this one), and my favorite song Waylon ever sang (Lovin Her Was Easier), and I was so happy to see you have reacted to both of them. KK was an absolute legend and I feel so lucky that I got to be alive at the same time as him. Lovin Her was Easier is my most favorite song of all time. Literally just a perfect song start to finish. He wasn't with Janis, and he didn't write Bobby Mcgee for her. He said he didn't even know she recorded it until after she died. He wrote it in New Orleans. It was based on a secretary named Barbara McKee (everyone called her bobby) but the producer thought Bobby Mcgee had a better flow to it.

That was a great reaction! What you are probably too young to understand is that on Sundays EVERYTHING was closed! Even in a big city, it felt like a ghost town. So if you are of a certain age, you can relate to the near-dead-silence of the city on Sundays. And I miss it. Now everything is open seven days a week. There was something special about knowing that the "world shut down" on Sundays. And that ties into the loneliness expressed in the song. You are waking down the street and there is dead silence and you hear church bells off in the distance. The song is brilliant.

"Me and Bobby McGee" is one of the many songs he has written. You reacted to it months ago. HIs acting credits include a co-star role in "A Star is Born" with Barbara Streisand. But he also has a cameo in- "A Joyful Noise" -starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton - a feel-good movie I think you'll enjoy. He sings in both films. BTW: He's also in the 2001 re-boot of "Planet of the Apes" but under so much ape make-up you won't recognize him.

Hi to Amber and Jordan - I have a little something to share with you about this song. My beloved dad, who has been gone 6+ years now, was my hero in many ways and for many reasons. One of the reasons was that after he retired (he worked at Ford for 48 years!) he was really bored. He didn't know what to do with all this time he suddenly had. So, that's how he ended up learning to play guitar at the ripe young age of 70 years old. He practiced every single day, sometimes for 2-3 hours. He actually got very good. He ended up buying a microphone, speakers, and a recorder and recorded many songs (my mom too, but that's another story for another day, lol). So, we have been able to enjoy all these songs he recorded since he passed, and it is like he is still here with us. "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" is one of my favs.

Kristofferson has always been a favorite of mine (my mom had a crush on him when I was a kid). He wrote Me and Bobby McGee (I really like his version) and a wonderful memory I have of him has nothing to do with his singing. Sinead O’Connor caught a ton of heat for tearing up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live, she was at a music event later and was getting booed mercilessly. Kris came out on stage in a very fatherly way and gave her a hug and led her offstage. It told me so much about the man he is.

Kris Kristofferson is an amazing songwriter among many other things in his life. He knew this would be a great song for Johnny Cash but needed to find a way to get it to him. On a training flight in a national Guard helicopter he diverted from the flight plan and landed in Johnny Cash's yard and made him listen to the song in exchange for moving the helicopter off the lawn. He is a fascinating person to read about. So many facets to his life.

Kris did a great album with Rita Coolidge (a great country artist in her own right) called Full Moon. There are some really sweet songs on it, I recommend “I Never Had It So Good” and “I’m Down (But I Keep Falling)”. Their duets are golden. Great reaction, you’re gonna love more Kristofferson. Perhaps the very best duet with Rita is a song called “Give It Time To Be Tender” which was on Kris’s solo album ‘Jesus Was a Capricorn”. It’s a sultry tune, Rita played such a large part on that album that the LP cover is a beautiful photo of them together. They became a couple, and Full Moon followed.

Kris and Janis were close friends and sometimes lovers when she passed away. Kind of a crazy pairing with her being a blues singing hippie from L.A. and him being a country singer and former Army Captain from Brownsville TX. It wasn't until after she'd passed away that he found out she had recorded a version of his song Me and Bobby McGee. There's a KZbin video where he tells the story about him hearing it for the first time not long after her death. Even years later, he still got choked up thinking about it.

Kris was a commissioned officer. A military pilot. On his way to West Point, to be a instructor, he stoped in Nashville. Fell in love with the songwriting community. Turned in his commission and stayed in Nashville to write songs and worked as a janitor at a music studio. His wife divorced him and he was there alone. This song was his observation on a Sunday morning and what he was feeling. He still flew helicopters and landed his helicopter in Johnny Cash’s front yard to give him the demo of this song.

It was a huge hit for an old time (starting in the 1950s)Country singer, Ray Price. Ray deserves a listen on here with Kris's song, "For the Good Times" as well as some of Ray's other songs like "Heartaches by the Number" and "Invitation to the Blues" Ray pioneered moving the country beat from 2/4 to 4/4 time which was a big factor in 1960s growth of country.

Kris is an amazing songwriter (storyteller) and singer. By the way, he wrote Me and Bobby Mcgee, which is one of his many great songs and covered by the incomparable Janis Joplin. I have always loved his music (and had a huge crush on him.) Seeing him live was on my bucket list. I am happy to say I got to see him in 2019 with my mom before she past away in 2020. A treasured memory for life.

This one was a favorite by Johnny Cash since my childhood, and then I much later discovered Kristofferson's original, or is that a 'later original', as he clearly wanted JC to perform it after he wrote it? Anyway, it's a lovely song by KK, too! Did they ever play 'The Silver Tongued Devil and I"? That was where I really discovered Kris as a recording artist (OK, decades after it was released, but then I was born 'only' 55 years ago... :P And it's a shame to say that his own version of 'Me and Bobby McGee' is only very good, when Janis' version will forever be held in much higher regard! Well, I love both versions!

The moment in this song that hits me is the two off-the-beat tubular bells in the last verse. Melts me. First heard this song at karaoke, and eventually started singing it there myself in Kristofferson's version. There's a Johnny Cash cover of it too. The Kristofferson/Streisand duet you mention would be from the 1970s version of A Star Is Born in which they starred (Bradley Cooper and Stefani Germanotta's recent take on that wasn't the first filming of that story; actually Kristofferson and Streisand's wasn't either!).

Most listen to version was Johnny Cash version. When Johnny sang it for prime time on his show the network told him to cut the part of the song that said stoned since it was live tv. Johnny wasn’t having it and performed it the way it was meant live. Kris said that was the greatest thing Johnny ever did for him

A television executive told Johnny he needed to change the line "wishing lord that I was stoned" to "home". Johnny refused and sang it the way Kris wrote it. Johnny's version hit #1 on the country charts, won song of the year at the Country Music Association Awards and was listed on The Rolling Stones list of the Top 500 Songs of All Time in 2021.

This song was actually a very big hit for Johnny Cash and one of the first songs that started Kris Kristofferson's career as a songwriter. I happen to love his voice, but many people do not, and the vast majority of his songs were huge hits for other singers. But it is my belief that he single handedly brought steaming hot lust and sex into country western music. He wrote "For the Good Times" which is the ultimate hit the sheet that last time for goodbye sex song. "Help Me Make it Through the Night" which is the ultimate it aint love but I'm lonely and horney and you'll do song, And "Loving Her was Easier" that really was a lost love song, but the line, Waking in the morning to the feeling of your fingers on my skin. Wiping out the Traces of the people and the places that I've been. That caused me shivers. The rabbit hole you can fall down when it comes to Kris Kristoffersons music is unbelievable. He is and isn't a country western singer. I do believe he is a true poet, a romantic, a bit of a mystic, an extremely flawed and troubled man and perhaps one of the most intelligent song writers to come around in a long time. He is 80 years old at least and has had some medical issues that have caused him to stop touring and retire. I am not one to cry very often over a celebrity death. I cried over Davy Jones, David Bowie, and Tina Turner. I have no doubt I will cry when Kris Kristofferson passes too.

Kris wrote this song in 1969 and released it but he really wrote it for Cash. Apparently Kris had been a janitor at the recording studio where Cash recorded and it was during this time Kris pitched every song he had written to Cash who always passed. Kris finally landed a helicopter in Johnny's yard to personally deliver the demo to him. Johnny loved it and recorded it on an album from his television show and the song for the second time was on the country music charts but this time Johnny's recording took it to number one in 1970. Kristofferson said it was the song that allowed him to quit working. It has always been a personal favorite off mine and glad you guys reacted but if live to see your reaction from Cash's release and see which you prefer and why.... Thx J and Amber!

Right after college, in 1980, I moved to 1200 miles from home to Houston TX. I call my 8 years 'my lost decade'. I lived this life for the first 3-4 years. When you move to a large city for a job, without close friends, it's very easy to slip into this lifestyle. This song brings me back to those days. They weren't the best, that's for sure. But I wouldn't trade them away for anything. You need tough times to appreciate the good times.

Kris - a legend, an icon, actor including Whistler Blade/Trinity movies - awards from Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, Songwriter of the Decade & Life achievement Award - the list goes on - almost every artist starting out in the 60/70 recorded a Kris song!!! His wife Rita Coolidge & Kris had several albums!! He is reputed to be Janis Joplin last boyfriend - He is just KRIS - I have loved him since 1968 - & still listen to him - his body of work is enormous - He & Willie did a movie called "Songwriter" which is a Smash - they basically play themselves!!! He is my absolute favorite songwriter of all time & I had a BAD crush on him for years!!!!! This is a worthy rabbit hole - 1 thing to remember - Kris has never really considered himself a good singer!!!! Kris Rocks!!!!

I've never heard Kristopherson's version before. Thank you so much for doing this one. Kris actually wrote this for Johnny Cash and it was one of Cash's biggest hits of all time. I'll always love the Johnny Cash version, but there's something about hearing a writer sing his own song that really helps you feel the song. Thanks so much. As big of an audiophile as I am, I should've heard Kris' version. But thanks to y'all, I finally got to hear it. Johnny Cash's version is also exceptional. You should really check that one out too.

Sundays, when I was growing up, was the day everything was closed. For me, this song captured those Midwest Winter Sundays of gray skies, bare trees, ugly dirty snow and raw 15 degree snow flurries and no escape from the mood. He's an incredible song writer and singer. (BTW, he was a Rhodes Scholar who after a few short months told them where they could shove his scholarship and quit.)

Kris Kristofferson has done it all (singer, songwriter, actor) but is probably best at songwriting. He has written some of the biggest hits in Nashville for other people. This song was a huge hit for Johnny Cash and he also wrote such greats as "Me and Bobby MaGee", "For The Good Times", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night." As a singer his best, and most famous song, is "Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again)." Another great song is "I'll Take Any Chance I Can with You."
