Because what Hermes is saying is he didn't teach her to appreciate the earth he didn't want to just bind her to etherys because he himself was unhappy he wanted to see what was out there he didn't want her to be unhappy like him but it didn't go the way he planned that's why when you play the game you hear the words hear feel think because meteion wanted to hear what you hear feel what you feel and think how you think so hydelyn created the sundered world in hopes that what happened to the asciens won't happen to them

To me, Endwalker was all about the journey, much more than about the end. It makes you cross the whole universe, time and space... but what makes it really special is that it makes you cross your own story and all its parts. The good, the bad, the beautiful, the despair-inducing, the sad, the infuriating. All of these are important steps on anyone's journey, and all of them should be kept close to your heart. When Meteion asks 'can we be friends?', I broke. When G'raha asks if we can take him to an adventure? Same thing. It's not about the end, it's not about the despair, it's not about what can come. It's about the journey, the memories you make. Sadly, Meteion was just a child, and she couldn't see this before despair took over, but she had her chance. Here's to more adventures, more stories, more friends, more flights across the skies, more flowers and mountains and cities and seas. Here's to all the stories, all the emotions. Here's to all Warriors of Light in their journeys into the beautiful unknown. Your rendition captured this feeling in such a sublime way, so I hope your journey as well is filled with beauty and joy.

What *I* took away is "maybe there's not a single grand cosmic answer to "what is the meaning of life the universe and everything" but that the answer is differant for everyone, the purpose of life, is, as paradoxical as it sounds, to find your purpose, to persue that purpose and in doing so find contentment and sastification where you may, I can see how this answer might be dissastifying but that does seem to be the answer being provided. "there is no single answer"

When we as individuals suck it up all the sadness and desperation alone we tend to become the same hopeless being Meteion became... wanting everything to end, losing all color and turning grey. I think XIV made the best story for the old "villain wants to end everything" trope.

@@sam.246 I know Hermes wanted his answer but I really feel for meteion. She's essentially a child sent out to answer questions she wasn't ready to even ask let alone understand, and given a group mind so she collected far too much information far too quickly. Her father figure may not have caged her but he certainly didn't equip her for her job...and none of this tragedy was from malicious intent....it's just the flaws of the people involved. I really hope we see meteion again so we can show her some happy things.

I never hated Meteon for her actions. She felt alone, hurt and desperate for help. When we met her again at the end I didn't scold her but asked her to come with us. She was naught a child lost with no guidance. I felt sorry for her

I imagine the WoL standing in a meadow of Elpis flowers, as the music starts the petals from those flowers breakaway from their stems in a swirl of different colors, different emotions. Their mind runs wild through their memories of every moment in their journey. Each memory turning the petals to their respective color/emotion. Till they become a massive, swirling, dancing rainbow. With this music playing through as each memory comes and passes the WoL's mind. Their face brightens to every moment of happiness. Tears fall at every moment of sadness or feeling of weakness. They show face of determination as they remember never giving up, even in the face of despair. Even if all hope seemed lost. A soft smile as they remember the moments with their friends and the times that theyve been there for each other. The battles they won for a great cause. The people they've helped raise the hope in their hearts. They clench their fist in anger that they wish they were stronger, faster at the moments where they were needed most. A small giggle as they are reminded of the good times. The fun times theyve shared and experienced. The moments that brought laughter and cheer even in the most grim of times. They raise their head to the sky, with eyes closed. A sigh of relief as their companions will see the next morrow. A battle won. A new sun rises. Their adventure has not yet come to it's end. A new story to be told, a new adventure to be written. A moment of silence for those that have passed on. For their lives have not been in vain. Continue to the next chapter of our story. The rainbow of colors that surround the WoL fly high. High and higher. Till they are but sparkling lights in the sky. A final thought crosses their mind. For those that we've lost. For those that we can yet save. This is a wonderful piece youve made

We yet have to recieve a Meteion, Hythlodaeus and Emet Minion =P) And while the Starbird is obtainable as a dungeon loot thats different from story given minions

I actually sort of disagree, I think that's precisely why it's such beautiful writing. That Meteion and other characters like Venat, Hyth, Hermes, Emet, Zenos have met their long journeys' end and have come to terms with their impermanence. For me personally it's more dangerous to cling to and reintroduce old characters over and over, even though they are amazing personalities, because I feel like it waters down the consequences and gravity of Endwalker. Those themes of Endwalker is what made it a masterpiece in my eyes. It's a bit like the saying "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened"

I just can't get over how amazing the music in FFXIV is. It stands out from all other MMOs to me. I haven't played every mmo of course, but I have played a good handful. Of those, only two have left a truly lasting impression on me. FFXIV followed by GW2. Yes, in that order. And btw, this is one of the best covers I have heard of this piece. You ever have a kind optimistic friend, always happy, always smiling... who just slowly turned dark due to the world around them? How one disaster after another, one let down after another, one broken situation after another kicked that optimism into submission and made them cold? That's what Meteion was. Take a kind empathic person, and subject them to the suffering of a thousand dying worlds, and the light in them will fade out. Not out of malice or hate, but simply as a defensive mechanism to make sense of it all. Cold and self-convinced that is the only logical way to be. When she fell in those flowers it about killed me. That moment when it all came around to her. How despite how hard she tried to shut her self off, no matter how much she despaired, somewhere deep inside she still held out hope. And she had to endure that while looking around at what she had become.

Beautiful cover. What I love most about this end of a journey is how this song swells the journey you've had.
