Couple of reasons are: - In book [RoTK], after surprize attack at Wan Castle Cao Cao himself said that while he lost the oldest son [Cao Ang] and nephew [Cao An Min], he grieves about Dian Wei the most. It's not a secret that DW series is based more on the book, rather than real historical events...and in book Dian Wei is far more memorable character then many others - In China of that era filial piety was a mandatory part of upbringing for almost any child of more or less high-born family, thus it was expected. Had Cao Ang behave in different matter and did a lesser effort to save his father he would become a laughing stock for the end of his days [unless he'd use his father's death to gain the momentum and seize the power for himself, which would give just another tyrant]

Honestly i started playing Dynasty Warriors 8 a week ago, honestly Dian Wei's death hit me really hard, not as shocking as 7 looks on this list, but enough for me to mourn him, until i decided to redo the campaign and have him survive when i did the conditions right. He really is a great character.

I still remember the first time I have seen this guy in warriors orochi 3. That was actually the first in general I have come into contact with Characters of the DW franchise, as I only had experience with Samurai warriors 3 beforehand. Having played DW8XL as my first, proper DW, I have gotten huge respect for Dian Wei.

I love that Dian Wei is a Scottish Japanese Chinaman. DW7 is by far the best (especially when you include Cao Cao's end scene) but the reflection scene in 9 was a nice surprise.

Thats one of the few things I loved aboyt Dynasty Warriors 9, they really nailed the cutscenes when they sat around and talked, and even built more character for Cao Cao in this scene. It really makes you think what would've happened if Koei hadn't done the things they did to DW9 that made it unpopular per se.

Not just this scene but it also hit home with other aspects, some of the standouts to me include finally including Zhang Fei’s death, Han Dang’s death, Yu Jin’s ending, Liu Shan’s ending, Xiahou Ba’s inner conflict. Those are some the stand out scenes that really shine. It’s all there but the gameplay is what kills it the most.

Leave it to the worst game of them all to get the cutscene the most accurate, DW 9. They were betrayed in the night and supposedly they even managed to steal Dian Wei's weapon(s) before the man woke up. That's supposedly a big part of why he died that night, and why he doesn't have it/them when he double pie-faces those 2 guys. I hate DW 7 the most, because Cao Cao waits so long to run. I mean this man is giving his life so you can live! Move your ass! We even see that the enemy has horses ready to charge as soon as Dian Wei falls, which he does shortly afterwards, when Cao Cao is still pretty much within sight...

Cao Cao can have as many sons as he can, but there can only be 1 Dian Wei, that's why he mourns Dian Wei over his son Cao Ang Same situation with Liu Bei and Zhao Yun at Chang Ban, Liu Bei threw his son (a baby) to the ground n only worried about Zhao Yun safety bc to have a loyal n strong soldier like Zhao Yun is hard to get, while he can born as many son as possible to take over when hes dead.
