Nice work there! I have tuned a lot of B230 on my dyno here in Sweden. We are often using the V and the VX3 camshafts in the cheap builds and they perform really good. When the engine has a stock bottom I want to stop at 300 hp and 400 Nm at the wheels to keep the rods straight. That is with a ramped boost curve, usually 1.4 bar to 2 bar at a 6800 rpm rev limit and 98 fuel. That is 93 in north america.

@@madismaalt5232 We have MaxxEcu or VEMS in all our higher hp builds, like 300 and more. We have a lot of home made chips and more known brand name chips also but is not worth it. My friend has a 940 with B230FK and a custom chip for stock ecu making 382 whp with a BW efr turbo and that works quite good. But to this point it has costed more than getting a Maxx installed.

Damn, I lucked out scoring my A cam since its performance numbers are so comparable to the iPD one! I'm so so glad you made this video comparing them cause the old forums can be a little much at times, plus some parts are getting real rare, and this is just a digestible information piece. (Also will hopefully visit PostHaste when a planned Vancouver trip happens sometime next year so the fellas can hook me up with a fresh tune while I come through. In theory at least!)

We had a B230FK tuned with Maxspeeding T3T4, KLR Intercooler, IPD cam on 100 octane with 1.4 bar on LH2.4. We got 270whp out of it... Tuned by Dann in Sweden.

Pretty neat video! Thank you. I was especially interested in the results of the V camshaft because I have one but no car yet. The previous setup I had to sell was a 940 classic which included a B230FT, T15 turbo, bigger nozzles, A camshaft and chips. As soon as there is a chance, I thought I would turbocharge the 245 with a B230x engine. Because that would be my dream car.

Stock intercooler? Also, in addition to the touch more duration, the overall reduced overlap on the V probably helps it push the rpm peak that 700 rpm to the right in a turbocharged application. Nice work, great video, and another score for the V!

I have that exact turbo in my B230F(1990) turbo converted. I run 1 bar (14.5psi) and it rips. It has run well for a year. Dont trust the rods for higher boost.

I've been wondering for some time if there is something actually wrong with my engine with a T cam since it dies so bad on the top end but this really shows that it really is just the cam. Would have been even better if you also included like the KLR T3 and maybe a K cam too but this was already a really good comparison too. 👍 I wonder what cam I should get, I have a B230FK with T3/4 and Speeduino ECU etc. I will upgrade to HX35 soon and probably go E85 too. I'm located in Finland so IPD is not an option. Been thinking of a K cam but they are somewhat hard to come by and KG trimning that has reproduced them seem to have been out of stock for a long time.

Thx for the upload, there's been a clinical lack of Volvo nectar. Have you considered something like the Ford 8.8 or something to get a cheapo limited slip diff that can handle the power? 300 is almost overkill for a car that light, but at least now you have the drivetrain (mostly) to stand up to the abuse.

I haven't really considered the Ford 8.8 as these diffs have been holding up pretty good. I definitely don't mind the welded but maybe an LSD would make a faster sideways car.

You're gonna regret going that far in final drive ratio. My turboed 240 wagon (gt3071r - 531 head - enem v16t cam) had a 3.73:1 initially, which broke a spider gear. I swapped in a 3.54:1 rear end and it got noticeable more sluggish. I then mistook a broken guibo for another broken rear end, and swapped in a 3.31:1 one, and that finally killed all fun driving the car. It lost all guts inbetween gears, it's not even funny.

What trans were you running? I have a BMW zf in this car and they're quite short ratio with a 1:1 5th gear compared to the Volvo m46/m47 transmissions that have a 4th gear 1:1. I just did the swap to the 3.31 rear end yesterday and its sooo much better. Id say the car is faster now because I can actually use the piles of torque the turbo engine makes without having to constantly change gears.
