THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I bought a refurbed DC35 and it just kept cutting out. I didn't know if that's just how it was, or whether it was because it was a refurb..or what! But it was so annoying. It would sometimes last a wee while and sometimes about 2 seconds. It's new so the filter didn't need cleaned, BUT I had no idea that the battery came out like that. And when I popped it out it was filthy! So I cleaned both the terminals and now it doesn't cut out at all!! Thank you so much!! This is why I love the internet! :)

OK so my hubby cleaned the contacts with an emery cloth and bent them a tiny bit closer together and it immediately started working as it should! Thanks for your video! I put a call into Dyson on Saturday but I still haven't heard back from them. This problem started when I first got the vacuum and has gradually been getting worse to the point where I would resort to pulling out my built in or my heavy Kirby! Thanks again!

THANK YOU. Fixed it for me! I had been cleaning my filter obsessively because that seemed to make this problem lessen temporarily. But over the last few months it got worse and worse (to the point where I'd rather just sweep than endure VACUUM-RAGE). I can tell you that even with a freshly cleaned filter, this problem will persist. But cleaning the electrical contacts with the battery fixed it IMMEDIATELY. I used rubbing alcohol and q-tips.

Thanks! My Dyson was having a different problem; the floor brush extension started working only intermittently. I cleaned everything out; that helped but didn't fix the problem. I removed the brush and cleaned that, then removed as much stuck-on hair embedded into the base of the little twisty end as possible, with a needle-nosed pliers I use for beadwork. That didn't fix it either, even after taking all the little bitty screws out and emptying out very fine dust from places I didn't know there were places. Found your video and tried your fixes, cleaned the filter (that wasn't it) and then Q-Tipped around the connectors. I noticed a lot of very fine dust inside the tube that goes from the bar attachment to the hand-held part...cleaned that out...ran it a few times, and I think we're good to go now. Thanks so much for posting!

For me, cleaning the battery contacts fixed it. I tried cleaning the filter, and that didn't help at all. It was still randomly shutting off, with increasing frequency. I also tried thoroughly cleaning the brush head, which had a good amount of hair and fuzz tangled in it. That also didn't help. It was definitely an issue with the contacts. Once I cleaned them, inside and out, the issue was resolved. Thank you for posting this video!

Judy. I was having the same problem for over 2 years with the DC35. Please refer to my previous post. The leads at the base of the DC35 from the handheld (vaccum) and container are the problem. Although they look adequate, cleaning them (scraping of charring or discoloration) will correct the problem. Now my motor-head attachment works fine. The only time the attachment stops now is when the whole vacuum stops.

Hello! Thank you for this video. I'd like to add my 2 cents on my experience with fixing my dyson vacuum. I have a very similar model and it was running intermittently like yours. I tried all your fixes listed in this video but none worked. Mine turned out to be a simple fix in the end. Mine was almost completely clogged just after the spinning brush. So before doing anything I recommend checking to make sure that all parts of the vacuum are open and there are no clogs anywhere. My suspicion is that, when completely or most clogged, the motor runs intermittently to keep it from overheating. Anyway, my 2 cents. Thanks for the video, it pointed me in the right direction.

@demetriusfountain10 жыл бұрын
This video inspired me to investigate. My DC35 motor-head attachment worked intermittently. I followed this video and still observed that my motor-head worked intermittently. This video did not talk about the leads that run the motor-head attachment. Those leads are located (and make contact) at the base of the hand-held (vacuum) and the container. They had two small indications of charring--NOT enough to cause my problem (I mistakenly thought). I used a screwdriver and scratched the charring off both sets of leads. That corrected the problem! The motor-head now works continually. This problem started 2 weeks after I purchased it and has persisted until now. Bottom line, cleaning the DC-35 will make a huge difference. If it's cleaned adequately, it doesn't need to be set to MAX to be effective, and will last for up to 30 minutes even with the vacuum motor-head working properly (like mine does now for the first time in over 2 years). Before I cleaned it, I had to have it set to max and it only worked for up to 5-6 minutes with the motor-head attachment in use. I now understand that I do not need a new battery. Hope this helps somebody.

We did all of your suggestions. thanks for posting. We were not able to get it working until the bf bypassed the filter sensing micro-switch, removed it, and tied/soldered the brown and black wires for it together. Doing this will permit the unit to operate without regard to if the filter is absent, so be cautious/aware, and be certain to place filter in proper spot because after performing this fix, the vacuum no longer knows its missing (said switch doesn't detect filter clogging, just the filter presence in the vacuum). *black rubber push-button on bottom of filter, near battery pack*
@tomthumb63078 жыл бұрын
+Angie Zuber This is the real fix for this senseless over-engineered switch.. Of all of them I have removed through the years from washing machines to tractors (all for similar issues) this proved the worst of the lot. Cleaning and bending contacts is just a band aid for the problem. If it works great but don't count on it or for it to last. Just like you did ditch the foolish switch and be done with it. As with most things today it's nothing more than lawyer proofing. Providing the user is smart enough to not run it and stick their fingers in the fan removing the thing is nothing but an improvement. As with the rest of the Dyson vacuums we have had I find they are all pizazz and otherwise nothing special . The best of the breed (only one in fact) was our first, DC 14. After that it was all down hill. The newer ones in particular are made cheaply and trouble prone and use the same sort of cheap unreliable parts as everyone else and cost 3 times as much.

Bent the middle lead so that it "poked" more towards the batter lead and it works perfectly now. Thanks for the video which confirmed my suspicion. If it helps, that is the only thing that I had done to my Dyson which had the same problem as yours, and that fixed it which implies that was most likely your issue as well.

Cool, my issue is that one of the three leads that make contact with the batter are loose. I would like to take it apart and use something to hold the leads in place. Well my DC 30 kept shutting off after a few seconds, than stopped working all together. I took the back off by removing one screw and its clipped in place and needed some force to get it off. I then found there where two coils at the top. From these coils are four enamel coated copper wires they are soldered down to two metal plates. But unbelievably the enamel was still on the wires, I scrapped it off and re-soldered the wires and now it works perfectly. the solder must of been contacting just the cut off end of the wires
@timmymallett19 жыл бұрын
The thing that fixed mine was rebending the 3 battery connections in the handle out a bit. I'm not sure what these actually do, as the main pos and neg connection to the battery seem to be the 2 prongs in the handle. These 3 exposed copper connectors have no voltage across the terminals so I'm not sure what they do? To diagnose if it's a battery connection issue, fully charge it, then press the on button and wiggle the battery pack around. If it cuts out, and then doesnt when you dont touch the battery conversely, it's probably the terminals that are loose and the battrery is moving about when you're using it from day to day.

Put some hot glue on the tip of the filter, where it connects with the rubber piece inside the dyson to start the engine... there will be a better connection. Worked like a charm for me, easy to do and cheap solution. Because it's the connection between the filer and the dyson which starts the engine and that wears out.

I NOTICED that the three (interior) contacts are at irregular levels. The left one (looking at vacuum's bottom with nozzle-canister at your 12 o'clock position) is depressed the most, far right one/three is second most and the third middle one appears normal. Contacts did need some cleaning. Question: Are these contacts normally positioned this way? If not, this would explain the random cutoffs!

I'm still having the problem. I regularly clean the filter and the contacts but it keeps happening. I may try the soldering suggestion on another video and the suggestion of cleaning contacts by the power head. It only happens after about the first ten minutes of vacuuming when the battery starts to lose power.

+Monica Peckford : Have you tryed bending the contact so they make better contact on the Battery? This seems to help most people. The contacts touch the battery with tension created by a arch in the contact. If you bend the contact so the arch makes better contact with the battery this fixes it most of the time.
@sellingsunshinecoast9 жыл бұрын
Hi Grant. Yes, I've tried that. When I remove the battery and the filter and I press the trigger while holding down the black rubber thing that is below the filter I can activate the vacuum. After about 30 seconds the vacuum cuts out similar to when I'm using it. I suspect it has something to do with the black rubber thing under the filter.

A dirty filter will not cause the motor not to run. If there is a safety switch that senses the filters presence, then that may be a problem if it is not in the closed condition.

For the price of these Dyson lemons you would think that they would last for years with only minimum maintenance, But NO, if you read all the complaints about them it's constant maintenance and ongoing problems. I fixed all my Dyson problems by cutting my losses and throwing it in the trash bin, then I bought a Chinese stick vacuum which has been very reliable over the last two years with no problems, it was about one fifth of the cost of a Dyson lemon and I would advise everybody considering a new Dyson to do the same.

OK stupid question how does your vacuum work when your battery is removed? In your reply you see you remove the battery and filter and activate the vacuum cleaner I don't see how that's possible? If you say the filter is clean and there are no obstructions then there's only one possible cause and that's a bad connection or possibly a bad battery. And by now I'm sure you know the difference between an obstruction that's when the vacuum cleaner stalls repeatedly on and off

Its a known problem with the battery contacts getting some dust and also because its removable battery. The new dyson has a non-removable battery that solves the problem.
