OMG! 😮!!! I used my cutting-out Dyson DC35 literally for YEARS. Shaking the handle. Banging the beater on the floor. Off & on. Cleaning every nook and cranny... Aggravating as heck!! Finally I gave up, resigning it must be the battery. Ordering it yesterday... Randomly your video came up recommended today... I watched it and guess what?! YESSSSS it's now fixed in less than 2 minutes!!! I used a piece of silicone watchband. It fits nice and snug. IF I EVER SEE YOU I'M KISSING YOU RIGHT ON THE LIPS!!! 💋💋💋💋💋 THANK YOU!!!!

Finally, someone came up with the fix! I hope this works long term. After buying a new battery and basically doing surgery on all the parts!

This actually worked on my old DC35. I can’t believe it. I used a small piece cut out of a cable tie. Spent the next 10mins bashing into skirting boards trying to make it stop but no, this is the fix. Thanks!

This worked for me. I used a bit of heavy duty plastic banding which they use to wrap heavy cardboard boxes/parcels. Just goes to show how rubbish Dyson’s are. I’ve had three different types and they all had problems you normally have to do 20mins maintenance before you use them. Thanks for the solution.

Wow. after countless videos. This did the trick. Who knew a little piece of plastic would solve the problems. Dyson works great now!

My DC35 is different (?) but I think this video hits on the core issue - the contacts points - so I took mine apart (again) and notice a "star" screw that holds "C" type clip over the two "sleeves" that the battery contacts slip into. I took the screw out and check for issues, but did not see any except the the screw was not tight - so I put the C clip back and really tighten the star screw back in .... IT WORKED . Can't really say that is an underlying issue for others, but I have tried a lot of things - including a new battery I can't post pictures - but one other thing I would suggest if you are going to be working on your DC35. If you decide to take the plastic cover off that has the "Max" button in it - you might want to grind or sand down the area where the cover "locks" into the body so that it will not be so hard to take the cover on and off. I ended up having to use a cordless mini grinder - but would not suggest that unless you are very careful.

Thanks! I have wasted hours on the phone with Dyson (on hold mostly) and even bought a new battery. They said they no longer repair this model. I own an upright too that is falling apart as well and they also dont repair that model.... Coincidence? For the money these things cost the build quality is rubbish. You saved me £500. Would never buy another Dyson. Customer service is clueless and they refuse to repair... terrible.

Curious. Does this mean that if the motor overheats that it now will not cut out? I thought the cutting out was due to clogged filters causing the motor to overheat.

The best and most gentle abrasive for electrical battery contacts is a fibreglass pen. This will remove verdigris off contacts caused by a leaked battery or just general oxide from age and leave a more polished surface. Sandpaper is way too abrasive and can deposit grit into the battery compartment, plus the resulting roughened surface can hold dirt easier. In addition the pen is much more precise in tight locations. I also find that a quick buffing of battery contact ends works wonders when a AA/AAA type battery charger rejects a cell. Even the stainless steel casing of a Ni-Mh battery can have sufficient oxidisation build up to cause the electronics of a charger to reject the battery as faulty.

Where, what, is a fibreglass (tipped) pen?
@alanjones46224 жыл бұрын
@@ardwych4881 I have one which came with a Gunson's Speed plate kit for cars to make minor electro plating repairs. It's purpose was to clean the surface to be plated and leaving an uncontaminated surface. I cannot remember what happened to the rest of the kit but I kept the pencil. I recently bought a similar glass fibre pencil (4mm diameter tip) on Amazon by a company called "Model Craft". It looks identical to my original Gunson one. Like a propelling pencil, you rotate the end furthest from the tip to push out more glass fibre bristles as they wear down. You can also buy small blister packs of 10 x 30mm long replacement inserts. The pencil is 4 1/2 inches long. A similar sort of tool and actually looking like a longer plastic pencil, was made by Staedtler and used by tracers and architects at one time when drawings were done in black Indian ink on plastic film or thick tracing paper. You could buy these "pencils" from shops selling artist, draughtsman and office supplies, though I think the architects I worked for supplied them free along with pens and pencils. The pen/pencil was used to erase ink on the drawings to make alterations and corrections but leaving a non shiny surface able to take new ink lines or lettering, etc. As mentioned in my previous ramblings on this subject, I regularly use mine to polish the terminal contact ends of rechargeable batteries because sometimes, despite the casings being of stainless steel, there can be slight oxidation and modern day smart chargers read this extra resistance as a faulty cell.
