I bet even the developers didn't think the conveyor belt could be built like this
@ochiniwa2 жыл бұрын
Yes they definitely did not but they will eventually fix this. So all this will be "destroyed" in the near or long term. So I personally really like the bending of the sorter and belt mechanics, it give the opportunity to make some fun stuff but I would never rely on them in the game as I consider it as an exploit :) because it is not meant to be this way. But that is of course a personal view.
@LaureTheGamer2 жыл бұрын
@@ochiniwa I’m going to slightly disagree with this. It’s possible they choose to dismantle entire systems however at this point it’s passed into “feature not a bug” territory. It would be counterintuitive to spend development time to remove a rather involved and robust system that is causing people to spend more in their game. With that said, games like Guild Wars 2 have made similar decisions, dismantling entire sections of the out-of-bounds world, where roleplayers were hanging out due to the lack of npcs. But perhaps the more apt examples come from a game cut from the same cloth, Minecraft, where to this day “features” like BUD switches and piston shenanigans have stayed in while being embraced wholeheartedly by the java community. I certainly could see what you say being possible but I truly hope you’re wrong as I cannot think of any greater waste of their time.

Thank you for this. For vertical belt teleportation - you mention "Once you have the belt out - you can do regular belt bending to it" -- however when you then showcase your teleporting belts they are NOT pulled "out" but rather are _still_ inside AND lifted. Since belt bending only goes up and down -- and you can ONLY belt bend _after_ pulling belt out - how do you say: Pull belt out (covered) Bend belt up (covered) and then pull belt back in (not covered)? Edit: Awh nevermind -- I figured it out. You do same thing but in reverse -- you autocorrect out - belt bend up - then autocorrect back in. Thank you for showing us the fundamental techniques so we could use them to solve problems, such as this, on our own using first principles thinking :)

The sorter teleportation doesn't seem to work anymore. I tried to create a simple 20x1 smelters blueprint which produces iron ingot. Very simple setup: the belt underneath send in iron ore. I used one teleported sorter at full height (from your toolbox) for output. When I copy it to somewhere else, some output sorter will send items to the belt underneath which will jam the belt. I tried to only remove the belts after construction and force repaste the blueprint again (that seems to work according to some guides I found online). However it still would not fix the problem for me. Also I noticed that the problematic sorters kept changing as I re-paste the blueprint. Not sure if I am doing something wrong. Some tips would be super helpful since this is now breaking quite a few of my blueprints.

I had originally written a post on here saying that none of these techniques work they may have been patched out but but it just turned out your details were a little off. When making the ramp at the Pole and then dragging that ramp to the Pole to make the vertical ramp you need to leave the flat part at the bottom but delete the flat part at the top not delete both.
@LudusMachinae3 жыл бұрын
what type of error do you get when the bottom flat bit is deleted? there's no mechanic I know of that would cause that. I do know it can fail if the ramp is too tall because the blueprint thinks it is overlapping itself

I just tried out the two ways you demonstrated at 7:50. Seems like neither of them is working anymore. Does it mean the only way to make these compacted belts is to paste them from an existing blueprint?

Some of the sorter teleporting wont work anymore after devs made some additions to belts last patch. They added length check for the connection and if its too far the sorter wont connect after being built. Short connections (and sorters that are already built) still work but it still lowers the versatility a lot because the range is very short.
@hellfaf2302 Жыл бұрын
Yup, new limit is 1.75 grid spaces for the sorters, this applies for vertical and horizontal
@alexeinovikov7409 Жыл бұрын
I was able to get them to far distances past 1.75 but only via "belt bending". But if I put them as a blueprint, I wasn't able to find a way attach them to buildings. So, I have to individually belt bend them for each time I use them
@hellfaf2302 Жыл бұрын
@@alexeinovikov7409 Yeah, this also applies to belts in general where the limit is 1.25 grids but if you bend it you can get any length it just doesn't blueprint so its not much use. For the odd edge cases you can get away with it but its time consuming.

Man, this is exploit galore lmao. Defeats the whole idea of using different speed belts midgame that are 2 or 3 grid away from a machine to still get the insertion speed you need to feed it. I guess its ok for people who want to play like that. I get more joy out of it building something normally and make it work and still be efficient. But I see the appeal. It saves alot of space and can make more space efficient machines. The only trick I use is to use sorters instead of long belts sometimes when I need to move a small expensive quantity of items from a machine to another, mainly the big charging stations with accumulators where you don't want hundreds of charged batteries sitting on the belts. But amazing finds. The 4 stacked belt system is truly something. 3 inputs and 1 output on one "belt" is really crazy. Not many people even pierce inbetween the machines to do an input or output and vanilla style it is pretty difficult to do and barely expandable. You get a like anyways.

@@LudusMachinae not sure what you mean with 2 units, I needed 3 levels so I had floor level, one up, and 1.5 up (because I assumed a 0.5 would collide with sorter) and this is what breaks with BP. Hi Ludus, thanks a lot for this eye-opening guide. In the sorter teleportation section, how did you lift up the node that's attached to the sorter (like the ones in your toolbox). The issue I am having is sorter have hitbox at half height. That means when I tried to lift up the node like you have shown in episode 1 with a half height node and a full height node, I had collision warning and couldn't place the half height node on top. Did you pull the node out from the sorter, lift it up and put it back? Appreciate the answer. Thanks.
@LudusMachinae2 жыл бұрын
you guessed it correctly. you need to autocorrect the belt out of the sorter's collision before raising the belt with regular belt bending, then you can autocorrect it back above the sorter like my toolbox has. (that's why it's in my toolbox, such a long process, better to have some preset and ready)

@LudusMachinae2 жыл бұрын
I don't know, I don't personally use large blue systems like this very often, so I'm not super familiar with the problem you are trying to solve. you can definitely use these to make the downward elevators you're using much smaller. the only thing I'd say is do not try to use splitters. sorters are much better for lag, even if you need 4 or 5 to get the throughput you need. splitters (as of right now) aren't super UPS optomized and are generally laggier
@perrymeril2 жыл бұрын
@@LudusMachinae Well, I have ZERO plans on using splitters. I do not personally like them either. I think I have a total of one in my entire late game build and that was because I built a line of smelters that ended up being too long for iron ore so I put an injection point later on. What I'm thinking of doing is having a line go down from the multi-z layer belts and use them similarly to how my sorters are being used. I ... Think.. this is possible with your elevators. One elevator out, one elevator in, and it acts a single belt - no breaks from the main bus.
