DYSON SPHERE PROGRAM
Build the most efficient intergalactic factory in space simulation strategy
game Dyson Sphere Program! Harness the power of stars, collect resources,
plan and design production lines and develop your interstellar factory from
a small space workshop to a galaxy-wide industrial empire.
Like Factorio and Satisfactory combined :)
ABOUT THE GAME
Dyson Sphere Program is a sci-fi simulation game with space, adventure,
exploration and factory automation elements where you have to build your
own galactic industrial empire from scratch.
In the distant future, the power of science and technology has ushered a
new age to the human race. Space and time have become irrelevant thanks
to virtual reality. A new kind of supercomputer has been developed - a machine which superior artificial intelligence and computing capability will
push humanity even further. There is only one problem: there isn’t enough
energy in the whole planet to feed this machine.
You are a space engineer in charge of a project launched by the space alliance COSMO, tasked with a massive undertaking: constructing a Dyson
Sphere, a megastructure that would orbit around a star, harnessing all its
power and energy. Only a few decades ago it was considered a hypothetical,
impossible invention - but now it’s in your hands… if you can manage to
develop this space workshop in some galactic backwater into a galaxy-wide
industrial production empire!
ABOUT EARLY ACCESS
While the core mechanics of Dyson Sphere Program are ready, the game still
can grow and evolve a lot - and Early Access is just the perfect place for it to
reach its true potential. We believe that by letting players experience the
main content of Dyson Sphere Program and actively interacting with them
to collect their feedback will allow us to improve the game and make it
much better than it would be without this Early Access stage. Our plans are
for this EA stage to be about 1 year long. But that is not written in stone.
KEY FEATURES
◇ Build a galactic industrial empire from scratch: start with a small workshop and improve it until it spans the whole galaxy
◇ Develop your very own Dyson Sphere, a megastructure that orbits
around a star harnessing all its power and energy, from the first screw
to its completion
◇ Explore a vast universe procedurally generated with all kinds of celestial bodies: neutron stars, white dwarfs, red giants…
◇ Gather resources in planets of all types: ocean, lava, desert, frozen,
gaseous planets…
◇ Research new technologies to improve your factories… and discover
the secrets of the universe
◇ Build mechas to fly, sail or jump through outer space and alien planets
◇ Transport materials across the galaxy to your facilities: thousands of
transport ships will flow endlessly to your factories and back!
◇ Design the most efficient automated factory and production line
◇ Customize your factory and Dyson Sphere to make it unique
◇ Design a balanced power network, producing energy in all kinds of
power plants like wind turbines, artificial stars… through conveyor
belts, and you’ve got technology to help your buildings fit the grid automatically during the construction process. You’ve got the best tools
COSMO can afford to build a massive-scale automated production line
- the most efficient one ever seen in the universe!

It gives out a mild amount more hydrogen than graphite. You can see at 16:36 the belt on the left of the screen give 2 hydrogen to 1 graphite. I rebuilt this in my world and it does sadly very very slowly overflow your system. I ran into this same issue and short of burning it i dont know what to do :/ Edit: so i did some further testing on this design (i love it by the way so compact) and you need to siphon off 1 hydrogen per second (so a mk2 sorter after the sorter/filter) that travels 3 grid units) the the system perfectly stays levels on both graphite and hydrogen. And you can burn or use this excess 1 hydrogen per sec wherever you wish
@Moerdock
@Moerdock 3 жыл бұрын
I Think the way he does it isnt the right way...how about just inputing the refined oil and jumpstarting the prozess...after that selffeeding the hydrogen with a sorter putting it out and another sorter behind that putting it in again...then the system will output exactly 1 graphite and 1 hydrogen and you can deal with the hydrogen from the first cracking process eintirely seprate to the second cracking prozess which will never overfeed or starve itself this way...thats what i am doing in my world an is imho the only right way to do it...excess hydrogen then gets burned or further processed into deuterium...which has its own use later on... just my two cents tho...

That is beautiful, Nilaus! You still have 50% excess hydrogen in your output. It will jam up eventually. I solved it with an extra splitter on the output H line, removing 1/3 of the Hydrogen. That goes into fuel cells at first, and later into whatever. I allow only a single stack of graphite in my buffer-- I want production to stop when red cubes are jammed up. That stack is also helpful after red cubes have been idle for a while; if graphite output is jammed, just pick it up.
@vtrista2165

Yeah to add to it: The reason why Hydrogen is in excess is because you are still making 1 Hydrogen every 4 seconds from the first process, producing a total of 3 Hydrogen and 2 En. Graphite from a single production set of 3 Refineries.

Great tutorial! My only comment is that this setup produces .25 Energetic Carbon per second deficit. You will need to empty your hydrogen container eventually or inject 1 Energetic Carbon every ~6 seconds. I fixed the offset by utilizing a splitter with priorities set and feed the Energetic Carbon line from a coal source.

Well, this came along at a great time. I have had issues with my red science build locking up using the priority splitter method Nilaus did in a earlier video and have to "clean out the excess" every so often. The other issue is it won't produce red cubes at a steady state. I am absolutely going to give this a try to see how it goes, but I also wonder about the extra H as well as I think that also breaks the splitting method as well without some sort of storage tank for the extra H that will have to be dealt with later. (Right now, I am working on fuel cells to use the excess, but have just gotten a titanium build going on the lava planet, so it isn't up and running yet). Either way, great work as usual Nilaus. Very clean and useful. Looking forward to more DSP content. I think this game is right in your wheelhouse and you have knocked it out of the park with your content.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have set this up for myself and spent about 3 hours trying to get it to stop stalling out! I finally figured out what was happening ... I did not notice if you did this in your video nor did I hear you say anything about it ... But the splitters between each set of two need to be sorting HYDROGEN only or the whole thing randomly breaks down because it randomly sends graphite and oil across if you do not specify! @DavidGuild

Thanks for this! Just one thing, I've done the math and, unless I've made a mistake, you actually make more Hydrogen than Carbon with that setup, so it will eventually back up and the system will clog up and stop. Every 4 second cycle you have: One refinery taking 2 Crude Oil and making 2 Refined and 1 Hydrogen. Two refineries taking a total of 4 Hydrogen and 2 Refined Oil and making 2 Carbon and 6 Hydrogen. In total you're consuming: 2 Crude Oil, 2 Refined Oil and 4 Hydrogen, while making: 2 Refined Oil, 2 Carbon and 7 Hydrogen. Net: -2 Crude Oil, +2 Carbon, +3 Hydrogen and 0 Refined Oil. The red cubes use equal amounts of C and H. So you will very slowly be stocking up on H. If you consume all of the Carbon you'll have left 1 Hydrogen every 4 seconds. 10,000 per container, your stack of 3 containers will take 120,000 seconds to fill up. That's 2,000 minutes or about 33 hours 20 minutes. *Edit: actually, that's 1 Hydrogen every 4 seconds for each setup of 3 refineries. So since you have that times 4, you have a surplus of 1 H per second, so it should fill up all the containers in 8 hours 20 minutes. I'm thinking that there's a way one can make infinite free red cubes by setting up a power station that only uses oil products, and the whole system is self-sufficient. Sure, it won't be the fastest way of making the cubes, and there are other sources of free energy in the early game like solar and wind, but I'll try to figure out how much science one can make from 1 oil using a system like this. Should be fun. :)
@spc-tr
@spc-tr 3 жыл бұрын
The way I did my setup was to use both the x-ray cracking recipe and also use the regular smelting to complement it and thus achieve 0 surplus. To make a full belt of red cubes, I needed 32 x-rays, 16 plasmas and 8 smelters. This way there is no waste of hydrogen. Also, can confirm your math here: factoriolab.github.io/list#p=e-matrix*1&s=dsp******1

Later on, it is good to use the excess hydrogen to make hydrogen fuel cells then feed those into the thermal generators. A lot easier and quicker than ringing the equator with solar panels and just as unlimited.
@kiwidude68
@kiwidude68 3 жыл бұрын
@@spc-tr Not sure about your math? Using that factoriolab link shows that using the number of x-rays/plasmas and smelters you mention, produces 4 red cubes/sec (not a full belt which would be 6/sec) and has an excess of hydrogen of 1.4/s (it produces 8 graphite and 9.4 Hydrogen/s). What did you do differently to that recipe to achieve 0 surplus?
@spc-tr
@spc-tr 3 жыл бұрын
@@kiwidude68 like i said, the trick is to use BOTH the x-ray cracking AND the regular graphite smelting recipe. Factorio lab doesn't let you turn recipes on and off on a per-factory basis, only globally, thats why you can't see the actual results in there. In order to combine 2 different recipes, you have to open 2 tabs. one like this , for the hydrogen part: factoriolab.github.io/list#p=e-matrix*360&i=graphite*1&s=dsp*gas-giant+graphene-lv2+ice-giant+photon-formula (notice the 480 graphite surplus) another like this for the graphite part (720 - 480 = 240) factoriolab.github.io/list#p=graphite*240&i=hydrogen*1&s=dsp*gas-giant+graphene-lv2+ice-giant+photon-formula+x-ray Hope this makes it clear. What i did in terms of setup, was to merge the output graphite belts with priority set on the one coming from the refineries, so it wouldn't clog and stop the hydrogen production. As for the setup for the hydrogen loop, you can use a buffer, or not, simply using a splitter with 2 inputs and 2 outputs works. What i did was take hydrogens from the x-rays and the plasmas, with priority on the plasmas, output with priority for the xrays and the remainder goes to the labs. Works great and doesnt clog.

I don't believe this is a closed system as you're producing 2 graphite/s and 3 hydrogen/s(2 refined->2hydrogen+2graphite and you have the original hydrogen from crude processing). Eventually the tanks will fill up and the hydrogen will slow down the system until it gets starved of graphite and then it stops.

An alternative solution is (in a similar way of a kovarex cycke) to create a "loop" of hydrogen around 8 x-ray cracker. The loop should have a gap with a slow inserter (1.5 items per second but even 0.5i/s would be enough) taking from the end and feeding back to the ingress. The x-ray crackers both pull and put hydrogen from the loop. anything that is not taken by the "feedback" inserter can be sent out as output of the system. Graphite should go into a separate belt. Techinically after you prime the system, the loop is not even needed as long as the hydrogen output is before the input (as you output 3 and take back 2) . I'm just worried that the proposed solution, while being very "beautiful", might prove unstable as it depends on the timing of sorters and on the assumptions that the sorters to the paired refinery run BEFORE the sorter to the lane. If one of the 2 x-ray crackers outputs 1 more hydrogen to the belt (loading/saving small inconsistencies of sorter timing), sooner or later the system might start misbehaving.
@linamishima
@linamishima 3 жыл бұрын
Rather than using a feedback sorter (inserter), a splitter with a priority output set might be a better choice and less risky
@marcomassa84
@marcomassa84 3 жыл бұрын
@@linamishima no, that does not work if you want to use a single lane for both input and output of hydrogen as the line will back up and the refinery will not be able to output the hydrogen (i've tested this myself). Obviously if you have a dedicated lane to input the hydrogen in the refinery then yes, you can use a priotirty splitter in the output line to feed the input one. The feedback sorter is not a risk whatsoever as you need really a minimun amount of hydrogen to feedback in the loop to keep the system stable as the refinery output more than what they produce. alternative instead of the loop sorter you can just use the hydrogen output by the "normal" refinery, as long as the hydrogen output of the x-ray cracker is BEFORE the input (maybe with a cell inbetween.

@@Nilaus yes, direct insertion looks so clean and nice. but imho correctness should have priority before beauty :-) too bad that the ratios of the entire setup are bad and thus sooner or later the hydrogen will jam the system if you don't clean it up (or add some Egraph) from time to time. big buffers mostly don't help, but only make you notice problems later instead of immediately (old factorio wisdom :-) in another comment, you had said that this video is outdated and there is a newer version. I like the compactness of this design, but I'm not a big fan of mixed item belts. Another possible issue with this is that it only works with lvl 1 sorters, lvl 3 sorter with stacking might break the feeding cycle. Also one thing to note, any x-ray fracking setup WON'T produce hydrogen and graphite in a 1:1 ratio, its 1.5:1, so for each 2 refineries doing plasma refining you'll need 1 smelter producing graphite to make it 1:1. 1 refinery produces 30 refined oil and 15 hydrogen a minute. 2 x ray refineries consume 30 refined oil and 60 hydrogen, but they produce 90 hydrogen and 30 graphite. So you end up with 15 - 60 + 90 = 45 hydrogen and 30 graphite per minute for 1 set. This is easy to verify in game as your hydrogen WILL back up, but you probably didn't notice due to the buffering.

It works great - for a few minutes, then stops producing. I can't figure out why. Any suggestions?

You want that stockpile for organic crystals (Yellow cubes) and plastic (Purple cubes) down the line. Just build additional tanks until you can bleed it off into production later. I keep ending up scrabbling for refined oil but swimming in hydrogen like a gas giant tourist.

TLDR: Add 2 smelters making Energetic Graphite and 3 more Matrix Labs to make this build not produce extra Hydrogen. As many people have said, the ratios on this build aren't perfect, but it's not overproducing Hydrogren, it's underproducing Energetic Graphite. Each group of three refineries is producing 5 items every 4 seconds (3 H, 2 EG). Since there are 4 groups, the net result is 5 items/second. To fill a Mk1 belt, we need 6 items/second and since we're short 1 EG/second, all we need to fix this build is 1 miner covering 4 coal veins and 2 smelters making Energetic Graphite. Then you add this 1 EG/second anywhere to the line and it will seamlessly fill up the Mk1 belt. So now with a full Mk1 belt (6/second, 360/minute) we are only consuming 240/minute of that with 6 labs (each lab consumes 40/minute) so we will need to add 3 more labs to fully consume the yellow belt of items. This will now consume 360 items/minute and produce 90 red cubes/minute. It is now a completely balanced build. But... if you really want to ramp this up to make a full Mk1 belt of red cubes, you would need 4 total of this (fixed) build: 16 Plasma Refineries, 32 X-Ray Refineries, Miners covering 16 veins of coal (split into 2 belts), 8 EG smelters, and 36 Matrix Labs. Truly the most efficient! :D

I did the math on these for anyone interested. For each 6 refinery module (2 crude processing, 4 x-ray cracking) you will get an output of 30m/H and 15/m eG. This means for output a 6/s mk1 belt can support up to 3/s crude input (3 modules, 18 refineries), with 1 caveat. Your total output with 3 of these modules will be about 9 items per second. But, you can handle this with mk1 belts by splitting the output belts up into 2 sides of your filter splitter, since you will be at 6/s hydrogen it won't back up because you technically have 12/s input and output on the splitter. I hope I explained that well enough for everyone to understand, it looks a little complicated, lol.

@Zanktus

While it is indeed a great build, it still has its flaws. Even with giving that one Hydrogen to the nearest, it will eventually overproduce Hydrogen over Graphite, which will halt the production once the storage tank is full, or even earlier if you run out of Graphite. If you have this one running for a while it will even out at 45/min Matrix instead of 60/min. That being said it is still a good and compact build, just something which needs optimization on the long run.

@ivanvaliev6601

That's hilarious. I saw that feedback loop, so making usage of oil refinement and complete usage of ALL refined oil was obvious. Getting with those ratios on hydrogen was trickier. I thought about some stupid ladders or whatsoever. Or even layout that was shown here kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJbYdIaAi7h-p7c&ab_channel=RockPaperShotgun. That feeding back into the circuit using splitters and multilevel belts was wonderful. But THIS is second to none. Very accurate usage of belts. And really exploiting the fact that if you give direct input rom factory to the factory, they will give only needed products. That means, one factory will not try to stuck another one with activated graphite in this case. No multilevels, no swarming of splitters. So simple and cool.

I have tier 2 sorters connected, one allowing both, the other filtered to refined oil, but the first in the line just doesn't send the material off consistantly. All have power, I am producing twice the amount of power needed for all my equipment. Any suggestions? Thank you

I don't think this is working anymore. The Plasma Refining gets stuck. The non filtered Sorter gets stuck on "waiting to unload" and the sorter filtered for refined oil takes all the refined oil and the non filtered sorter isn't able to take any. But its really inconsistent. Of the 4 Oil refineries, it's only happening to 2 of them.

Worth mentioning: later in the tech tree there are lots of things which need refined oil, and at that point you do not want to be using it all for x-ray cracking. I think cracking is great for the blue/red stage but you probably want to disable it for yellow and purple.

@@9thsfarchangel Other planets in the starting system don't have oil. At least not usually - it's possible that you can roll oil as a rare resource. I'm unclear exactly how mapgen works. My first game (defaults, lost to corrupt save) had no rare resource, my second (with 2x resource mult) had fire ice. Not sure if the multiplier matters or was just coincidence. Regardless, starting planet is usually the only oil.

Very elegant design. I had a bit of trouble with the logic behind the three back and forth sorters between the two x-ray crackers, you went pretty fast through that part, and unfortunately it’s the only part that wasn’t obviously intuitive, at least for me. Nice build.
@madmerlyn
@madmerlyn 3 жыл бұрын
Each cycle on the X-Ray cracking refineries has 3 outputs. You want to push all of the output H into the second X-ray, but you also want to send 1 H back into the first one. It's a self-buffering loop basically. Then when they have built up their internal supplies you have 1 output from each going to your out-belts. Once they're fully running you have exactly 3 outputs running from the first cracker and 2 outputs running from the second cracker, which perfectly balances the input needs of both and drops the surplus onto your belt.
@stevengarbarino8851
@stevengarbarino8851 3 жыл бұрын
If you watched this and it's not working - make sure you don't start the first refinery of the three refinery system until everything is hooked up with sorters. If you run the first refinery before the second two are operational, you'll get backed up with hydrogen on the unfiltered sorter, and the refined oil will never get through.

there's still variance in the graphite/hydrogen that requires storage containers to provide a buffer so the splitters don't clog. i'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't require storage in the line because the system runs overtime needlessly trying to fill up the storage after the max red cube limit is reached
