Pro Exploiter Vs Strategy Game - Millennia Is A Perfectly Balanced Game With No Exploits

What happens if you take a professional video game exploiter and pay them to break an up and coming strategy game. Well the boffins over at paradox interactive decided that I should become a paid QA tester and push their game to the limits. Of Course this meant I discovered infinite gold exploits, teleportation exploits, god mode glitches and the ability to complete a science victory in the first turn of the game. All pretty standard behaviour for a pro exploiter like the spiffing brit!

For those curious for a real world history comparison. By the time Spiff is using early WWII bombers in 1520, in the real world of 1520, King Henry VIII was only 29 years old and was still married to his first wife. That is an insane leap forwards in tech.

While actual QA professionals are a resource that are woefully underappreciated and undervalued(most the time), shipping your game to Spiff to be broken is just a smart thing to do in any case :D And if you happen to make a game that Spiff can't exploit, well, that would certainly be a box cover note better than any "X gave it 10/10".

What's crazy is Ursa Ryan did basically this same strat totally "legit" on a random okay start and without the age of blood and still managed to get like 20 vassals or so by midgame and just absolutely ran away with the game on the highest difficulty. They probably need to cap the forced marches/reinforcement uses per unit per turn and fix the math so you can't be paid gold to have army, and maybe reduce the amount of healing those raiders get or something. Local reforms lets you giga capital while still spawning a ton of units and taking a ton of vassals. Then if you want some more cities later you can just integrate the best ones whenever. This build can get pretty unhinged.

I feel like one of the suggestions for the Warfare XP abilities would be that they can only be used on a single unit/city once per turn maybe even all spawn/adjusting units abilities in general or even more broadly but less fun that each ability can only be used once per turn overall

I love exploits in these kinds of games. In Age of Wonders 4 you can choose the Chosen Destroyers Trait, what this does is that every single settlement or outpost that you raze, you get a permanent gold income increase, aswell as for every 3 population the city had, 1 population goes to the nearest of Your cities, and since Chosen Destroyers cannot have more than one city, that means it always goes to the same place. Now if you grow the Chaos Empire Tree, you will eventually reach the Spoils of Destruction skill, this adds another 20 permanent gold income every time you raze a city. And as a cherry ontop, if you're playing as a Dragon Lord, you have an innate trait that is Dragon Hoard which will give you even more additional gold for every unequipped item. Now, for the Fruits of our Labor, You find another Ruler, trigger them into declaring justified war (otherwise you take a permanent imperium decrease, which is detrimental) and now you start raiding their lesser cities, keep in mind, every time you raze a city, it will net you around a scaling 50 gold income, now that you've razed all their cities and only thing last is their Throne City, you put Outposts around their city, and simply leave, let them capture, and build it up as a city, now since it's a fresh baby city, it's defenses will be hot garbage, so you can siege it in a single turn, you raze it, then establish another outpost, rinse and repeat until you think your gold income is high enough to support WAY too many soldiers. Have fun swarming the world!

This was really awesome to see. Exceptional bug exploitation! The raiders were amazing to watch snowball. But I am a tad disappointed that we didn’t really get to see _why_ vassals swell to become more powerful than owning a city.

There are some calculation bugs with prosperity meaning if you focus government types that boost yields to the point where they will pay you 4x a normal city in gold and research. They also provided 900 warfare xp per 300 gov xp and 400 diplomacy xp per turn. oh and 4500 improvement points as well :D

My friends were playing a DnD campaign, and one of them had in possession of them, an egg. He then proceeded to name it The Spiffing Brit and put it in a Boston Tea Party Teacup. When it hatched, he gave it a mustache, a monacle, and a four-peice suit. Later, it went up to a demon with a mustache, focused really hard, then one that was almost-perfect grew on it. It currently has +4 Vicious Mockery.
