That's a great re-wiring of the battery! I was wondering, maybe someone has invested some time and created a 3d printable part where one can insert a lipo pack and mount it to the dyson?

I was searching for an onboard solution to keep the handy stock charging station, but this is pretty cool. There must be small enough onboard 6s bms with discharge for esk8s etc which can replace the woeful dyson/clone bms. So far I’ve replaced the cells with 30Q 3Ahr cells. Thanks for sharing tho

Hi , very good video and explanations! Good power and light weight.....but be careful with this battery type which has no external protection. 18650 cells are placed in an individual metallic cover and then in the plastic box. These polymere batteries are not always stable and have only a fine and soft enveloppe. If placed in an little air plane high in the air : no security problem for the user (perhaps for the air plane!) . But here just under your hand it's absolutely not secure if the pack warms and , possible, burns. Best solution would be to build a solid and secure box before use...I would say it's necessary. Friendly, Michel from France.

But another relevant factor is that LiPos, unlike Li-Ion, can not be left fully charged for long periods, and should be kept at storage charge, approx 3.8v per cell, when not in use. This means you need to charge them up to storage charge after use, and then top them up just before using them again if you want to get the longest life from them. I do exactly that with my lawnmower, which used to have a very heavy lead acid 24v battery that took many hours to charge. I replaced it with one of the 6s LiPo batteries I use with my RC models, and it can be charged in as little as an hour if need be, and the weigth of the mower has been greatly reduced. I would suggest these kind of LiPo hacks are best used by experienced LiPo users, who are aware of all the dangers of LiPo packs.

@@charlestoast4051 I agree your full comment! And I add to be specially careful with the Dyson VCleaner if we use the max power during more than some minutes : Lipomere Batteries with their high C rate will perform for this use, and it could be pleasant to use often the cleaner with this power...but at max power the Dyson VC needs a lot of amps (that kills the Dyson battery quickly) and it could be another danger with a lipo pack by long stopless use.

Can’t I just solder a battery to a push switch, and have the vacuum push button push the switch I will purchase, and that switch closes the circuit to the battery. Charging the battery can be done externally, like a drill battery of sorts. Would it work?

Looks like my DC56 is a ~24VDC pack since the cutoff is somewhere, if I recall correct, around ~21VDC I found when measure. I was planning to use a Kobalt battery pack when I get around to finding one at a great price. Reminds me I should post some of my videos on iFixit if there's not ones yet detailing what I've worked with. Thanks for sharing! Gives some insight.

Yours looks like a 5S battery FYI... unless the pack is missing a battery. (Update: Oh, interesting... has two missing cells locations). Great design.
@ericvincent3219 Жыл бұрын
My wife's v8 is a 6S setup, and I had thought about the Kobalt's until I looked at prices and chargers. Instead, I found the cells are $6-10 each, so I'm going to plan on replacing them instead. I bought a charger that grades batteries (so I can judge condition). Right now, the first battery is 2315 mAh, on cells that are supposed to be 3000. I'm using an XTAR VC8, and I've rigged up a cable and a wood dowel so that I can charge and grade each cell--though it takes a LONG time--to evaluate each and tell me whether they're bad and/or which ones need replaced. Then I'm going to buy new cells and put them in the existing pack, unless I can find a way to purchase a larger housing for bigger batteries that fit (and are cheaper for the same capacity). Good luck!
@jafinch78 Жыл бұрын
@@ericvincent3219 Funny is I've just been charging with a 24V power supply with a barrel adapter that uses a double alligator clip plugged in. Been using as-is since since I balanced the cells manually using my Turnigy Reaktor charger. I haven't been motivated to spend anything on yet, though the closest I got was lazily daisy chaining the DeWalt powerwheels switched adapter to this pack. Though seemed a buck converter in between would be better and that kept me from doing anything more since I don't have a buck converter that high enough current yet. Maybe someone can custom design and 3D print a housing for you if you're not in the know on how to or have a maker space of fab lab resources? Can be outsourced printed as well like a few different online shops once you've made the STL file from the CAD app. All the best and thanks!

nice presentation and functionality is there, however original case is cannot be used to house this new battery. is it not simpler to just replace 4 cells with new ones and close original case ? Otherwise, this looks like unfinished project. Suggestion: get a decent case to place new battery in, then present it in final section of your clip so you won't have to trim last 30 seconds.

i think the bms also communicates with the control electronics regarding the voltage, since the dc30 works with 4s and 6s batteries. on the pcb it even is labeled "24V", so the device is capable of using this voltage, but maybe only if its communicated by the bms

The general output of 18650 is around 2200-2600mah. I would expect ebay pacs to be on the low side and be capable of the original pack 2200mah. They of course sell packs labeled to have Sony batteries and in 4,5,6000mah output for $20 currently. I'm sure the packs are 2100mah as I'm sure the green lasers are all 5mw or less even though they claim 5-500mw
