I have mainly carpet , with laminate in the two bathrooms and kitchen. I’m debating on the v11 absolute with the soft roller or the v11 torque drive. I did consider the v10 but like the new screen. We have no pets. Would appreciate any help on which version to get. Thank you

@@leighbarrett6797 Hey Leigh! Sorry that your comment slipped by me. Since you have mainly carpet you can probably save the money over the Absolute and just go with the V11 Torque Drive model. It's plenty good on hard surfaces, and with laminate the risk of damage is far less that of hardwood. I'd go with Torque Drive.

Wait Dyson didn't say the V11 Outsize was meant for bigger homes, did they?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
@@reianae.smiley8573 That was my analysis based on the specs and features of the vacuum. Dyson says that it's designed for "faster room cleaning" (Dyson.com). A cordless vacuum that can run for 2 hours, has a larger dust bin, and larger cleaning head is far better suited to cleaning a larger home than a cordless vacuum with lower end specs. Not to say the Outsize couldn't clean small homes as well, but in my view it would be overkill.

Good comparison. As a professional vacuum service technician, I would only add that the V7 and V8 models do have a maintenance advantage over the V10 and higher models. The perpendicular cyclones can be completely removed and washed on the V7 and V8. This can NOT be done with inline models because the electrical connections pass through the cyclone. As a result, the models that can not be washed are less efficient over time because they will partially clog. To clean them your only option is to gently tap on the side of the cyclone to shake all of the dirt out of them (or blow them out with compressed air). However, on the V7/V8 Dyson designed the cyclone to be easily removed and it can be completely submerged in a bucket of soapy water for a thorough cleaning! I've also seen enough problems on the units with the digital display to say that I currently do not recommend them at the high price point. once they are out of warranty you could get stuck with something that is prohibitively expensive to repair. IMO the V7 and V8 are the best Dyson Models for price and long term maintenance.

In the UK, there is usually another model for each vacuum called the total clean. It is one of the top end models in that it tends to include the most tools in the range (not necessarily the same tools from other models in the range though) and the vacuum itself comes with a red wand. I was getting a refurbished Dyson cordless and it was either between spending slightly more for the V8 total clean or saving a bit and getting the basic V10 animal. I went for the V8 total clean as it had such a great range of tools like the direct drive motor head, fluffy cleaner head, crevice tool, combo tool, flexi-crevice tool, a multi-angle attachment and the mini motorised tool.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some retailers here in the US sell the Total Clean version as well. However, the Total Clean models I've seen here in the US (specifically the V10) include the older Direct Drive brushroll, as opposed to the Torque Drive brush. So while you do get additional accessories you give up a much more important piece of the vacuum, with the more powerful brushroll.

Can't believe I still have the pink v6 I got 6 years ago on Black Friday for $199! On normal power, the duration is just the same, but max power is now reduced to less than a minute instead of 5 minutes. Really the only things I would get next time are a HEPA filter exhaust + soft roller head + the debris ejection of the v10/11. It's nice to have a larger bin but 90% of the house is hardwood floors. And do any of these have removeable roller heads for easier cleaning? Do you really even need the roller if you don't have carpet? Getting the pet hair out of the roller each time you use it is annoying. Thanks in advance.

1. V11 is objectively the best in terms of performance, suction, and run time. If money is no object get the V11 and add this amzn.to/3r1mJxO If you want to save a little money get the V10 Absolute. 2. The roller does remove from the wand, but disassembling it from the head itself is more difficult. However, the soft roller heads do disassemble more easily and can be cleaned with water. 3. Since you don't have carpet you'll probably just want to use one of the fluffy soft cleaning heads most of the time

I recently purchased a V8 Carbon Fiber online. It has the same 40 minutes of run time as the other V8 models, but has 155 air watts of suction on max mode. It also came with both cleaning heads, the mini motorized tool, just about every non-motorized tool made for the V series, and even a storage bag for all of the tools. I find it odd that this specific model was never sold in the United States. Though I was told that it was probably due to both the V8 Carbon Fiber and the V10 models being released in 2018.

That cleaner has just given up the ghost and I am trying to understand which to buy , I customer reviews there have been frequent comments about parts I think rollers or brushes not working well for long. I also wonder how much agility is required to hold the trigger constantly as I have a hand injury.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
The higher end models definitely have better overall performance and usability, but of course cost more. In terms of the agility required to hold the trigger down, it's not much. Less than a pound of pressure I would estimate. For most you just sort of grab the handle and you hold the trigger down at the same time. For most users I think the V10 or V11 is the best choice. Not to say the others are bad, but considering the relative price difference vs. performance difference, it makes a strong case to at least get a V10 Animal. My top 3 picks for most are the V10 Animal, V10 Absolute, of the V11 Torque Drive.

However, a new V10 Absolute right now is the lowest I've ever seen it at Amazon here - amzn.to/3bSBbzw At the end of the day, both V10 and V11 are amazingly powerful vacuums. The more recent the model, the better the performance. I wouldn't go any lower than the V10. The features, suction, and performance really takes a step up on the V10 and V11 models. In terms of the variation you go with...on the V10 I'd say Animal for general use and Absolute if you have lots of hardwood floors. V11 Animal is perfectly fine. You only really need the V11 Torque Drive if you want the fancier digital display. If all you really care about is removing pet hair from carpets and fabrics I'd say V10 Animal or V11 Animal.

All V-series vacuums are cordless. So every vacuum in this video is cordless. In general here are the differences: Corded vacuums are less expensive, have higher suction power, but can be more cumbersome to use (due to the cord) Cordless vacuums are more expensive, have less suction power (especially in less expensive models; however, high-end cordless vacuums have comparable suction power), have variable suction, and are more convenient to use Motors will be different depending on the model.

Overall, pretty good. We have not yet experienced any significant tangling problems (with human or pet hair).

You mentioned that not all Dyson models come with a HEPA filter. I was looking at getting a Dyson 11. Is a HEPA filter something that is really important?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
In my view, yes, it is. I wouldn't buy a vacuum without a good filter (ideally HEPA). To clarify, V11 does include a HEPA filter. So you're all set there. The versions that don't include a HEPA filter are usually the cheaper and older models...V7 Motorhead, V6 Cord Free, etc.
@hvlmmb4 жыл бұрын
Ah ok. You had an image at 4:45 that was showing the V6 and V7 were "YES" for HEPA filter and the newer ones were no?

There’s WAY to many models now. I’ve went on Amazon 4 times in the last 2 years to buy one and just didn’t because buyers remorse is guaranteed now.

It's like iPhone...it gets a little better every year, but buying one that's a few years older is still an iPhone. You're hard to go wrong with anything released in the last few years. I'd say V10, V11, V12, or V15 make the most sense as far as power vs. price goes. I wouldn't go V6, V7, or V8 at this point.

in your opinion can Dyson V11 replace Dyson canister vacuum?
@ModernCastle3 жыл бұрын
For many people, I think the answer is yes. And Dyson seems to think so as well. Dyson's Founder, James Dyson, has already said the Dyson V10 was the leap in cordless vacuum technology that allowed them to stop developing new corded vacuums. Dyson seems to be in a push to do only (or at least mostly) cordless vacuums from now on. Given the suction power and run time it has massively reduced the former advantage that corded vacuums had.

Nice review but batteries aren't new technology. Sticking them in vacuums isn't open heart surgery. Prices are way too high. Up to an hour? I think everyone wants to know how long they last with each piece included.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
In most cases, they last 3-5 years...or at least that seems to be the general consensus among reviewers that we've seen. Our V6 battery lasted around 3 years. Our V7 battery is still going strong at 3.5 years. The V8 that we had on loan from time to time lasted 2.5 (though I think we decreased the life when we dropped it during a run time test) Our V10 and V11 models are still using their original battery. V10 is 2.5 years old, V11 is 1.5 years, and V11 Outsize is 6 months old. We'll continue to report on those as time goes on.

Your diagram states the V8 does not have a hepa filter. This is not true
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the diagram at 4:46? If so, that's not what that chart says. That chart is indicating which V-series models are available as which variant. Meaning that Dyson doesn't make a Dyson V8 HEPA. HEPA is a special variant of V-series vacuum that the V6 and V7 are available in. But that doesn't mean that other variants don't use a HEPA filter. And overall, you are correct, V8 Animal, Absolute, and Motorhead include HEPA filters.

My apologies for missing that. Here's a video of the Dyson wall mount and wall charging - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpCspnlqj9ObodE All versions of the V-series vacuums use a substantially similar wall dock. The dock uses the standard Dyson pin charging cable and the plugins into the back of the door.

Seems like Dyson's gone down the iPhone route deliberately confusing the punter and adding on stuff that is a waste of time and an excuse to bump up the price. Gone are the days when all accessiories were include. Am not fooled by these gimmicky marketing ploys. All that is needed is excellent suction, long battery life AND a flexi hose for vehicles which are not on any of the models making them all but useless for hard to reach places! ~DOH!!!
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it's quite to the same level as Apple, but there is certainly a degree of that. Even so, in general, Dyson's newer models all do exactly what you ask for...they have more suction and a longer battery as you spend more money. As for the flex hose, that seems to be an industry wide staple. You almost never see a flexible hose on a cordless vacuum. However, there are a number of 3rd party manufacturer's that make them. Here's some here - amzn.to/3iyEb7P (any with the red button will work on the V7, 8, 10, and 11).

Dyson should watch a TED Talk from Barry Schwartz called Paradox of Choice, or it should just learn with Apple. For dozen times I thought about buying a Dyson vacuum and gave up, since it requires a PhD to understand the differences between models. It creates customer anxiety and we just give up.
@ModernCastle Жыл бұрын
Yep...100% this. Between KZbin and my site at ModernCastle.com I've created over 100 different reviews, comparisons, and best of lists just on Dyson's lineup. They are needlessly complex to understand the differences.

Derek - thanks for the very informative videos. I like the cordless stick vacs, but my electrical outlets are very low to the floor in the baseboards. How much space does the plug-in device require? Not sure I want to invest in an electrician to install a new outlet. Considering the ball canister as an alternative, but how good is it on upholstery?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! The plug is about 3" wide by 1.5" tall, so it doesn't take up much space at all. Then it's just a cord to a pin connector that plugs into the vacuum. I wouldn't think you would need a new outlet. Ball Canister is solid everywhere, including upholstery. See our review here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn-mk318jMqiZq8

Thanks for this useful review of the various dyson V series. I have a question about the direct drive cleaner head (that comes with most models) and the soft roller cleaner head that comes with the Absolute model. since I have both hard floors and rugs I'm wondering how much more effective is the soft roller compared to the direct drive. In looking at models Dyson is offering a V8 Absolute Pro for $425 while I can get a V10 Total Clean+ at Costco for $400 but without the soft roller cleaner head and a few less other attachments. So it's not exactly easy to figure out what the best solution at that price range. thanks for any info you can provide.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
The soft roller head does make a big difference on hard surface flooring. In general, I think if 30-40% or more of the floors in your home are hardwood or other hard surfaces then it makes sense to get a version with the soft roller head. Or buy a standalone soft roller head here - amzn.to/38CO5RE

Once you go dyson, you cant go back. Its almost impossible… just dont waste money on aftermarket battery when you need replacement battery. They just dont work. Better to spend 100$ and get genuine one. Our original battery went bad after 4-5 years because we were using it on high suction everytime.

What is your experience on the locking mechanize of the removeable battery on the Outsize? Is it tightly fit to the handle housing without space, gaps and gives or a bit loose? I saw a written review showing the V11 Absolute Extra Model with gap and space at the back of the housing at the battery and the handle connection area.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
It's not as tight as the permanent batteries, but I wouldn't describe it as loose. It's got a little wiggle, since it needs to click in and out. That said, I've only had it a few weeks, so it's hard to say right now if it's going to be an issue down the road or not.

V10 and V11 would be my picks there...though this video is a bit old, so the V12 and V15 would also be worth considering if you have more budget. Animal versions are great, but they aren't necessarily better or worse for pets. Any V-series variant handles dog hair about the same.
