Conventional washrooms cause problems. With traditional hand dryers you need to move from the sink to a separate drying area, dripping water over the floor in the process. Dyson have developed a tap with integrated Airblade™ technology to combine hand washing and hand drying in one. There is no need to leave the sink - meaning no water on the floor.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson. In total, our engineers created over 3300 prototypes of the new Dyson Airblade hand dryers, and every component was subjected to hundreds of tests. Our unforgiving test team was tasked with finding fault and weakness and paying attention to detail - they simulated hand washing 213 million times. They even doused the machines in chemical mixes and tipped beer over the Airblade hand dryer range to make sure they are not damaged by harmful substances.

Hi there, it’s Jack at Dyson. The Dyson Airblade Tap hand dryer is designed for commercial environments - these commercial washrooms do not have plugs due to health and safety issues, and the risks related to flooding. So we wouldn't expect this to be an issue.

For commercial environments, this is perfect and will save a lot of messing around. Keep doing it Mr Dyson, I have been impressed since the very first day I laid my hands on the bagless vac, even though it was engineered up by Amway, it was in fact, a Dyson as I found later.

I assume the maintenance on those is pretty huge as everywhere that I knew that had them have reverted back to the old fashioned system, with one of those places switching to the airblade. You are forgetting that the Dyson system uses a lot less electricity than traditional hand dryers and also clearly takes up a lot less space. So there are positives. Also compared to the airblade, this seems a lot more flexible. The restrictions for mounting an airblade were pretty strict.

Mr Dyson - I suggest next time you announce the release of a new product, say whether it's for the commercial or domestic market. That way you would get rid of 90% of the negative comments on here from the donuts that can't see that it is obviously a commercial product.

The problem with this, as with all hand driers is that they are not as sanitary as using paper towels. They blow bacteria all over the place for you to breathe in. This is a product looking for a solution (and I generally love Dyson products, especially the bladeless Air Multiplier fans). You should read this:

One thing not mentioned here which is a big deal, is that this should finally solve the "not enough hand dryers for the number of people waiting" problem. Although it may create a "not enough sinks for people waiting" issue in smaller facilities.

I agree. However much I love to see the latest tech, with them promoting this to me I expected it to be residential product not commercial. Although I wouldn't mind having one of these at home, but from the airblade pricing there is no way its economically viable. I also suspect the neighbours might complain at how loud it would be.

Hi, I own a DC01 - yes that's right the first dyson vaccum and it still works. The reason I love it so is that I can do almost all the repairs myself (sometimes with help from the dyson helpline) Will I be able to repair this as easily?
@Bob_Burton
@Bob_Burton 11 жыл бұрын
Yes I have, and very good they are, as long as they are installed at the correct height, But I can use the drier whilst someone else washes their hands, which is not the case with the latest innovation. I also have my doubts as to whether the 'Airblade on a tap' will be as effective as the stand alone ones whose effectiveness is at least in part due to the fact that the airflow is strictly controlled to flow around the hands which cannot move far. This is not the case with the tap version.

Paranoid about the number of bacteria would imply only the presumption that bacteria numbers are multiplied by hand dryers, when in fact many studies have been done to indicate this is a fact of reality. Most facilities who would install these would not have anti-bacterial soap. I prefer to use my own clothing to dry my hands and avoid touching the door handle on the way out.

Not so, now you no longer need as much wall space for dryers, paper dispensers, or trash receptacles. Now you may need just one small one, and add to that the cost savings of less paper/trash. Furthermore, pretend we had this faucet 100 years ago and then someone said "I'm going to create another station with a box that dispenses towels on the other side of the bathroom! Brilliant!" you'd have said that's stupid.

The more complicated a piece of machinery becomes, the more it is prone to breaking down. How robust and maintenance free is this tap? Using it in a public place will probably be open to abuse, so has this aspect been taken into consideration?

And the clearance problem with the air blades will still be an issue here. I have large hands so I sometimes accidentally touch the bacterial soup at the bottom of the unit. Unless the taps have a lot of vertical clearance that is going to be the case here.

Looks great idea - love it - but how do you control the water temperature - in a commercial environment some children only want cold water whereas adults hotter water - maybe the infrared detectors recognize the size of the hand? Also would only really work in new bathrooms as most do not have electric underneath and possibly no boxed in area for the motor. Do love your products though - still using one of your washing machines that you gave up on.

I really disliked the Dyson Airblade hand dryers because I have to put my hands into it and so often the air forces me to touch the sides. It is like playing one of those fairground skill games rather than a drying experience. I know they say that the Airblade is specially coated to be anti-biotic but the residual water that rests is unlikely to be totally sanitary. This new design looks like a step in the right direction.

hmm, i see a few possible issues one, it probably uses lots of energy to dry your hands, and two, doesn't most of the bacteria come off with the abrasiveness of a towel? at home its not exactly hard or time consuming to dry your hands on a towel and i would expect it would probably take longer to dry them with just hot air (is it even hot air or is it just air temp air!)

Technically it a sounds good but not for normal people who could not afford such technology. Maybe public toilets of an upmarket nature would be the best choice to try this invention out? I personally share the view of Daniel about the sink being full of water, then what do you do when the airblade starts going? every man needs a shave and for that he needs a sink of water usually. I want to see this in action please James Dyson and not just something in theory.

FANTASTIC!! Does that mean those godawful Airblade MKII units can be pulled out and recycled into something more worthy of the materials they are made from. I see them everywhere in Sydney and HATE them with a passion, rather dry my hands on my shirt. I can't get my hands into them without contacting the sides and get sprayed every time. I wonder if this new device will spray soapy sink water back up onto my shirt and face. Another wonderful innovation to bathe the toileting public?

Unbelievably silly. - Some public toilets already have an all in one soap, wash dry solution. This cannot work in the home as some have already pointed out re. shaving etc. Personally I use the sink in the mornings to wet my hair prior to gel if in a rush and not showering. When cleaning the bathroom the sink gets used for cleaning water... would be annoying if that fan suddenly went on and blew all the dirty water over you. You should have left this for April 1st :)))

Given we can't even get sensor taps in most public bathrooms in Queensland (and they've been around for years), I can only imagine how long it will take for these to roll out.
