#Dysphagia means difficulty swallowing food &/or liquids.
People with dysphasia are at an increased risk of choking on solid foods or developing a lung infection like #aspiration #pneumonia because food and liquid enters the lungs instead of the stomach
The Nosey Cup helps people who have difficulty swallowing liquids. The notch cut out of the side allows the person to tip the cup to drink while keeping the chin in a neutral position

I choked on something while eating pasta about a week ago. Since then, I have had this anxiety of swallowing foods. When I'm done chewing and was about to swallow, I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I ended up spitting the food out. Side note: I can swallow liquids just fine.

May I recommend asking your primary care physician to order a modified barium swallow study, a.k.a. Cookie Swallow Study. This is done by video fluoroscopy which allows the radiologist and speech language pathologist to see how your swallow mechanism is functioning. This might bring you peace of mind. Please be safe ❤️❤️

I found a way to make this go away for the most part: Basically let’s say your eating pizza take a bite then focus on the rest of the pizza take a tiny bite and you will subconsciously swallow the other part even though it takes awhile it works also I recommend eating hot foods

We're so sorry you're having trouble. Have you had a swallow evaluation by a speech language pathologist? Did you have a modified barium swallow study (also known as the cookie swallow study) done? This study is usually completed in the radiology department. If not, ask your primary care doctor to prescribe the modified barium swallow study.

Ever since I came back from a trip I've been having difficulty swallowing, so much so that I have trouble swallowing my own saliva. This causes my anxiety to act up which makes it worse. I've been waiting to go to the doctors to get that checked, though I'm still very scared since school is about to start.

Would you be able to have your doctor make a referral to a speech language pathologist for a swallow evaluation? Or you could ask the doctor's office to prescribe a Modified Barium Swallow Study (a.k.a. Cookie Swallow Study) at your local hospital. The Cookie Swallow Study is performed in the x-ray department at the hospital and will involve the speech therapist that works at the hospital. That way you can cut straight to the chase since the cookie swallow study is what the speech therapist will probably recommend anyway. It sounds like you might have some stress in your life right now (school starting) which may be adding to your anxiety and may be affecting your swallow. Regardless, the Cookie Swallow Study might help you get some answers (and you'll get to eat a cookie 😉) Hope this helps. Feel better soon. AECorner

A feeding tube may be recommended for people with dysphagia if they are unable to safely swallow food or liquids. If dysphagia is severe, it can lead to malnutrition, dehydration, and aspiration pneumonia. A feeding tube can help to ensure that people with dysphagia get the nutrients they need to stay healthy. A nosey cup is meant for people who need to keep their chin in a neutral position while drinking liquids but are still able to maintain safe and adequate hydration by mouth. Hope this helps! 🥰🥰
