Thanks for the clear instructions! What are your thoughts on using oil prior to painting?

On my simpler projects I often just paint the untreated wood and then finish with the Howard's Feed N Wax. I like this method because it's easy and worry free for beginners. That said, I do sometimes use Boiled Linseed Oil prior to painting. I do this on my gnomes and several of my other carvings. It's a nice effect, but you do have to be careful if using BLO (some use walnut or tung oil as a non combustible alternative). I have an older video on using BLO if you're interested.

The bottle of Howard's that I got is kind of chunky versus oil like, like yours. Are you shaking yours up to get that consistency ? Your vids are great and easy to follow. Thanks.

Yeah, mine started off more chunky too. It is almost empty now. My assumption is that over time the wax is probably breaking down and thinning out.

What do you think about using this for jewelry? I have a pendant I made and I'm scared it would be irritating to to the skin

There is a warning about skin irritation on the bottle, but I've never had an issue. After it dries I don't think it would be a problem at all anyway, but individual reactions could vary I suppose.

@@dywoodcarving Thanks for the quick response! I went ahead and started applying it, and yeah that seemed more like skin irritation from application to me! It's already looking lovely, my girlfriend is going to love it! :D Thanks again!
