It's a beautiful August day as the crew of this U.S. Navy E-2C from VAW-116 prepare for departure from Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (KBJC) near Denver, Colorado. The video includes engine start, taxi and takeoff of "Sunking 600" E-2C #165648.

Hard to believe the E-2 is a 60 year old bird. She’s gorgeous!

An extremely well designed and functional AWACS machine that has stood the test of time. I worked on them back in the 1980's as an aviation electronics technician in the USN. The inside (behind the cockpit) is quite impressive yet very tight & cramped on space. The E-2C is also the largest aircraft that operates from an aircraft carrier; I served on 3 ~ CV-43 (Coral Sea), CV-60 (Saratoga), & CVN-71 (Theodore Roosevelt). Even with the wings unhinged and folded back it covered a lot of square feet. What's really impressive is to see one next to an F-14. The Tomcat was a very large fighter and was the only carrier based jet that didn't have a hinged folding wing. Instead the wings were swept all the way back to accommodate for extra room when it was parked either on the flight deck or hanger bay.

The A-4 Skyhawk didn’t have folding wings.

@@nocalsteve You're correct. The Skyhawk was phased out of the Carrier Airwing Fleet when I served. Although at the time they still used them for training purposes.

That's one of my old birds! I just left the sun kings in july! It's good to see elvis again! Glad to see she's doing good! She was the champion work horse on our deployment last year!

Awesome. The sweet thing is we're next to the port & get to see every jet land & take off 24/7. Some of the rarest, most expensive jets fly right by us. It's cool to see those same ones on the tarmac in the vids.

That's a whole lot of propeller, I was surprised to see that its not a counter rotating set up with the two engines.

Quite an improvement with the 8 blades. Less vibration and each blade can be replaced separately instead of the old way of removing the hub assembly.

Believe the same engine is on the C130 - a variant of the Allison T56

You are correct. It’s also used in the C-2 Greyhound and P-3 Orion.

What is an airplane like that doing in Colorado? Isn't it originally station where the ocean is or on aircraft carriers? If it's a military plane how come it's not at Buckley instead of a civilian Airport?
