#1 tip, don't steal an ebike and use a random adapter to charge the battery. This is usually how these fires start, thieves trying to charge stolen bikes.

Also, charge the battery only when it needs to be charged (50% or less). She was spot on with everything else. She kept emphasizing not to use an aftermarket battery or charger. I was about to buy an aftermarket controller for my wife’s evercross scooter. So glad better heads prevailed. The controller I looked at had different connections so I didn’t buy it. The one from evercross was a little more expensive but totally worth it. All the wires were the same color. Just plug and play. Another thing is to unplug the charger when not in use. There are electronics inside the charger brick that controls how much voltage the battery should get and when to stop charging. Those electronics need to reboot from time to time. That’s what kills cell phone batteries. When you use the car charger cigarette lighter, you’re putting 12 volts into your battery and because you’re not using the white charger box, it does not shut off the voltage when it’s full.

Unless you have a non-commercial system (like a bafang motor with a kT controller etc) where you have to buy batteries from an 'aftermarket' source. In which case just be extra vigilant on who you source from, And always use the charger that comes with it.. And keep an eye out if a BMS is working by running it flat (it should auto switch off) and if the charging stops when done. I order batteries from ebay from a US based store that imports them from china and haven't had any issues in the 6 years of doing so... I still have the first one I bought 6 years ago, Still working fine no hazards albeit lost some capacity over time. Not conforming to certain standards doesn't mean it's not safe, But having a battery that does so almost guarantees safety (as long as you don't treat it beyond it's means). To be honest, I have purchased an aftermarket battery for a commercial bike before (haibike enduro), And it operated great for 2 years before sold the bike.. But that battery came from a battery building specialist and so I knew for sure it was good.

@@danimayb i agree. Always get a battery from a known manufacturer and an EXACT replacement. Don’t install a bigger battery that was not meant for your device. I turn on a fan while charging to keep the charger cool and put it on a timer for 7 hours-just in case.

My ebikes are in a tin shed with a concrete base and there's a reason for that. Not all aftermarket batteries are bad. I look at genuine reviews and the amount of units sold. Proper machine built are best and are usually rigorously tested before being released for sale.

Nice video. Some ebike batteries have an on/off switch. When charging the battery when it's off the bike, are you supposed to switch the battery on, off or does it not matter? Also, once the battery is charged, are you supposed to then turn the switch on before putting it back on the ebike? Thanks in advance.

@juicedbikes
@juicedbikes Жыл бұрын
Hey 👋 Manufacturers submit representative samples that are then assigned to a specific category based on the product's intended use. From there, the appropriate standards a product must meet in order to become approved are defined, one of which is having built in BMS. Every Juiced E-bike equipped with a G2 52V battery is SGS certified to UL 2271.

To prevent overcharging all you have to do is charge the battery one time and sit next to it and mark down how long it takes to charge at each percentage point, so at 48 volts you would mark the time then at 49 volts you would mark the time so on and so forth until it's full. This way no matter what voltage it's at you will know how long it takes to charge from that voltage to full. Then all you have to do is buy an automatic wall outlet timer and set it accordingly so it will automatically turn off at the wall when the timer gives up so you're scooter doesn't overcharge in the case that the BMS fails or the charger doesn't do its job correctly and overcharges your battery.

It happens even with reputed ebikes 😂 Some cells simply go full short circuit by themselves(because of lithium dendrites) but this is rare. Just one of the quirks of lithium cells.
